The Deflategate verdict is in, and there’s nothing under-inflated about it.

The Patriots were sacked with a massive penalty from the NFL late Monday afternoon for their ball-tampering actions in January’s playoffs.

Tom Brady was suspended for the first four games of the season, without pay, for “conduct detrimental to the integrity of the NFL.”

The Patriots will lose a first-round pick in 2016 and a fourth-rounder in 2017, plus the team will be fined $1 million.

This discipline was assessed, according to the NFL, “for the violation of the playing rules and the failure to cooperate in the subsequent investigation.”

The report by NFL-hired investigator Ted Wells, released last Wednesday, found some of Brady’s claims implausible in explaining why balls were underinflated during the Patriots’ 45-7 win against Indianapolis in the AFC title game.

“I don’t really have any reaction. It has only been 30 hours. I’ve not had much time to digest it,” Brady said last Thursday night in front of a university crowd that broke into frequent applause. “When I do I will be sure to let you know how I feel about it. And everybody else.”

The 243-page report concluded Brady probably knew Patriots employees had a role in deflating footballs.

“It is unlikely that an equipment assistant and a locker room attendant would deflate game balls without Brady’s knowledge and approval,” the report stated.

The NFL press release said John Jastremski and James McNally were suspended indefinitely by the Patriots for their behind-the-scenes roles in taking the air out of footballs.

New England is scheduled to play its opener against Pittsburgh in the kickoff game of the regular season on Sept. 10. The Patriots’ fifth game of the season, when Brady would be eligible to return, is in prime time on Oct. 18 against the Colts — the team that ratted them out.

Overkill. The sanctions are more a reflection of Goodell trying to bolster his reputation then a sanction that fits the crime. For the record I'm not a Patriot's fan but a loyal Giant fan.

The pats also did not cooperate and weren't forthcoming for parts of the investigation, but agree this is a pretty harsh penalty. Those two got what was coming to them though IMO.

Sounds like a good chance he appeals and it gets reduced to two games. Francesa was just speculating that goodell might require him to cooperate in order to reduce the suspension, which could get interesting.

The pats won all 4 SB bowls by a combined 13 points. I can't remember the timing and details of spygate, but I'm pretty sure the suspicion was right in the middle of them winning their first 3. Of course goodell ordered the tapes to be destroyed so we'll never know.

Thomas Brady, you're looking real shady
Spreading out lies like the government of Haiti
Got caught with your hand in the cookie jar
Now the world knows you're a fraudulent star
I wish you would step into the ring for a bout
My man Bryce Petty would knock you da .... out!
But you already know that, so keep telling tales
Your Patriots are soft, my Jets are hard as nails

#ARequiemForBrady

They 100% knew the play calls in the second half vs the Eagles. First half they got dominated second half was a revolution. Definitely cheated.

How would they have known the play calls in the 2nd half but not the first though. Wouldn't it be all or nothing if they were filming practices ?

Over kill not at all. Not Super Bowl of theirs is clear of suspicion. Love Tosh.O and his rant.
I believe Brady just knocked out of first year of eligibility of Canton.

Most fans think Tom Brady cheated and support suspension, poll finds, but also shows most think other NFL teams bend rules too

An ESPN/ABC News poll about DeflateGate and Tom Brady returns contradicting results on how fans view the Patriots and Tom Brady following the release of Ted Wells’ report.

It’s more probable than not that most fans think Tom Brady is a cheater.

A poll by ESPN and ABC News found that nearly two-thirds of fans agree with the NFL’s decision to ban Brady for four games for his role in DeflateGate and more than half of fans think the Patriots quarterback cheated.

The survey, which polled 504 Americans, asked seven questions in connection with the DeflateGate saga. When asked if they support the NFL’s four-game ban, 63 percent said that they did. Among people who characterized themselves as “avid” fans that number shot up to 73 percent. When asked if they thought Tom Brady cheated or not, 54 percent said that they did think the quarterback cheated; the number spiked to 69 percent among the avid fans.

Interestingly, despite labeling Brady as a cheater, 52 percent of fans — and 61 percent of avid fans — said that they still thought he was a good role model for young people.

The poll also found that the overwhelming majority of fans think that the Patriots aren’t the only team playing fast-and-lose with the rules. While 52 percent (63 percent avid) thought the Patriots cheated, 85 percent (80 percent avid) said that they thought other teams were up to similar trickery.

Less than half of those polled (46/42 avid) thought the Patriots’ Super Bowl win over the Seahawks was tainted by the DeflateGate controversy — and Brady “absolutely” agrees with them — and nearly two-thirds (63/73 avid) still think he’s a lock for the Hall of Fame.

Patriots fire back at DeflateGate report, say ‘deflator’ was in reference to losing weight in own detailed release

Robert Kraft has stood by Tom Brady throughout the DeflateGate scandal, and now the Patriots are hitting back after the release of the Wells Report.

Two days after Ted Wells challenged Tom Brady’s agent to publish his own notes after Don Yee said there were “tragic flaws” in the Wells Report, the Patriots took it a step further.

On Thursday morning, the team released a rebuttal to the 243-page document that resulted in Brady and the Patriots being punished by the NFL. “The Wells Report in Context” states that the “conclusions of the Wells Report are, at best, incomplete, incorrect and lack context.”

The Patriots say that “texts acknowledged to be attempts at humor and exaggeration are nevertheless interpreted as a plot to improperly deflate footballs, even though none of them refer to any such plot.”

Texts in the Wells Report between assistant equipment manager John Jastremski and officials locker room attendant Jim McNally, who have since been indefinitely suspended without pay, appeared to show the two discussing a process of taking air out of footballs.

The Wells Report concluded that Brady was probably “generally aware” that this was being done.

Tom Brady celebrates defeating the Seahawks 28-24 during Super Bowl XLIX.

In the Patriots rebuttal, the team says the “deflate” term was used in reference to “losing weight” and not deflating footballs. They also say that McNally's text about "not going to espn" was in reference to sneakers, not the practice of delating footballs.

The rebuttal also argues that Wells jumped to conclusions by saying that the use of pronouns - "he" and "him" - in texts between McNally and Jastremski were in reference to Brady.

"This single text and the reference to 'him' and 'he,' which the investigators concluded must refer to Mr. Brady, is the lynchpin of the investigator’s conclusion that Mr. Brady was probably 'generally aware' of a scheme to release air from the footballs. There are two levels of speculation here. First is the speculation that the references are in fact a conversation Mr. Jastremski had with Mr. Brady and not with someone else. Second is the speculation that, even if it does refer to a conversation with Mr. Brady, any expressions of concern about Mr. McNally’s level of 'stress' had to do with Mr. McNally’s improper deflation of footballs. Neither the sender nor the recipient of this text supported the report’s interpretation. Nor does the language of the text. Nor is there any other corroborative evidence."

After the Wells Report was released, Brady was suspended the first four games of the season, but the three-time Super Bowl MVP is appealing the ban. The Patriots were fined $1 million and docked two draft picks.

Have we forgotten Gaylord Perry greasing the ball his whole career, Michael Pineda pine tar behind the ear, Craig Nettles and Sammy Sosa corking their bats, the Giants opening and closing the wind tunnels at Giants stadium, the Green Bay Packers controling the electric coils under Lambeaus turf depending who had the ball, Hockey teams rising the arena temp to make ice soft vs fast teams. Basketball teams tightening or loosining rims to favor their styles. This Brady thing is no big deal to me. Everyone looks for an edge and good for them if they get it. This is totally over blown publicity stunt and NO I am not a Pat's fan.

If the locker room guys were so innocent, then why did the Patriots ( who maintain the locker room guys were talking about weight loss) suspend them indefinitely?

How many people are really buying the deflater/losing weight nonsense? LOL

Pretty simple...if you cheat and are caught, you get penalized. Only thing different here is that the Pats (and Brady) are so high-profile that every media outlet and person (sports or entertainment shows) are tripping over themselves to make this a story. Same thing with A-Rod...does anyone care if some marginal player uses PED's? Penalty is fine...all the other nonsense is just media nonsense.
