The new AD is good news for Eddie Jordan as his team preps for Wake Forest. Seton Hall AD Pat Lyons praised the move.

After a tough week that included two losses and two injuries, Eddie Jordan got some good news Sunday: His new athletic director is a basketball guy...............

Five things to know about Hobbs, the former Seton Hall interim AD and Law School dean

To steady a roiling athletic department, Rutgers is plucking an old rival from up the road.

Seton Hall School of Law dean emeritus Pat Hobbs, who served as the Pirates’ interim athletic director from 2009-2011, will replace Julie Hermann as Rutgers’ permanent AD, president Robert Barchi announced Sunday.

"In my meetings and conversations with Pat.................

Seems like a real head scratcher to hire a full time AD who has never ever seen a football program among other things.

why wouldn't Lyons praise the move? He's hoping his former boss will eventually make him the next AD at RU a few years down the road.

Doubtful. In fact it wouldn't shock me if RU checked out his interest before hiring Hobbs.

Eddie Jordan has to be thrilled. He will probably get a 'top secret' extension when he will be somewhere 35 to 40 games under .500 in the Big 10 after this season.

Was Pat Hobbs every really the interim AD at SHU? I seem to recall him having some, perhaps unofficial capacity within the department but I dont recall him ever being interim AD. JQ left in October 2010 and PL started in February 2011. Was Hobbs interim AD during that period?

Exactly! Hobbs was basically JQ's babysitter and was there to keep JQ and BG from killing each other. He wasn't interim AD and he certainly did not hold that type of position for two years!

Wrong. He ran the department. JQ was a figurehead, any big decision came from Hobbs.

So he was unofficially "interim AD" in a sense while JQ was here. Then when JQ was fired he was officially our interim AD...

And if I understand this correctly... Hobbs oversaw our athletics programs when we lost 4 sports, BG's implosion, the inclusion of criminals on our men's team, the hiring of Donovan and Willard and the extension of Willard?

Okay, then...

I got the impression that he was involved with Men's bball only, though I could most certainly be wrong. I would expect an AD to know the name of the Tennis coach, Rec Center building manager and Athletic Compliance folks. I'd be somewhat shocked if PH knew that we even had people with those titles working in the Athletic Department. Not a knock on him, he is a bright/energetic/personable guy, just never got the feeling that he was the AD or really running the athletic department outside of Mbball.

Okay... So just the inclusion of criminals on our men's team, the implosion of BG, the hiring of KW and his extension?

...I guess that's not as bad...

The one issue that always puzzled me about Hobbs role as a temporary AD was how he could perform that role and still be the Dean of the Law School and be effective.
