Carino: Wake-Up Call

Given the way SHU operates it probably has to get this bad before anything happens, SMH. 🤯

Good for Jerry!

"I can’t get into that. This is the hand I was dealt, I’m playing it, I’m not going to complain or argue." -- LOL, Sha said he's not going to complain? Has he paid attention to his statements regarding NIL and his players performance?

Sha is struggling in all areas. His whole mentality is contradictory to the new environment and he must've learned the lesson this year that he cannot build a team the way he wants and needs to adjust. This team stinks and is not coached well. Clearly his messaging doesn't connect either. If he hasn't learned that and continues to put his head in the ground and try to control all himself, eventually he'll be back at a school like St. Peter's. We'll be talking about him being our Ewing, Mullin, LaVall Jordan. This season has been an epic disaster for him and really opens questions.

Hey look, HOF caliber coaches realized this early in the NIL age and checked out. Ask our friends from Philly. Every coach goes through this, we'll see how he responds.

But he is not the biggest problem. He is a better coach than the leaders at SHU are leaders. If the school doesn't improve what it's doing, Sha should leave. He's going to kill his career if they cannot get their act together. We had less than a $2M budget. I mean, c'mon.

Thought this board said we spent about 2.5-3 million this year?

I don't know for sure but I don't think that's true. There's enough information out there to piece it together.

With what little we did have he took a lot of low-priced, high-upside gambles with former highly rated recruits who bombed out and some experienced mid-majors who could make the jump. He wanted to play a deep rotation instead of splurging on 3 impact players then having a bench like last year. None of it worked and he was dead wrong on most of the players; they wouldn't even play his style.

Nothing in the article that most of us didn’t already know yet it was strangely validating to actually see it in type for the first time.

Say whatever you want about our players, coach(es), administrators, etc. The rules, or lack there of, have created inequalities in the sport that make the product much less appealing to many passionate fans and fan bases.

Can someone with any inside knowledge tell us as fans who spend time and money on this program what our NIL budget is? If its 1.5 then shaheen has to be cut some slack. Didnt RU spend 2-3 on harper and bailey alone? If thats the case theres no way u can compete. I dont care how good of a coach u have. Do u all realize we dont have a pg. Not a big east pg, but NO pg. We dont have big east caliber bigs. Not even close. You all can say well shaheen picked this squad. Yes he did but he whiffed on so many others for bigger bags. He wanted better players.

I've read [here] it is closer to 2.5 - 3m. If so--- or close--- what will it be next year... about? And if increased, how is that coming about?
Thanks.

We have played numerous pg from lesser conference teams that could have helped us.

Need a lot more engagement to thread that needle. This is also the most crucial time to change it.

IDK who said what but there's no way this team's budget is that high. I don't know for sure what it is, but I don't think it's $2M.
From someone in the industry..they said no way we spent 2 mil on this roster…if we did he should have been fired months ago

Maybe we had 2 mil? And decided not to spend it all? That part no clue

and the way i look at it is that (blue glasses weird) we needed this type of season to happen. if this doesnt spur change then nothing will. meaning we never had a chance to begin with.
Nothing will change.

Noooo. That’s what you need to even have a chance of putting a competitive team on the floor. Most stuff I’ve read in sources like The Athletic is $3.5 million average P5 budget. It will probably go up for the up coming season.

We’re getting absolutely humiliated..

good it's finally coming to a head. and its really not just sports.

This stuff has been out there for a while. Most of the national writers have been mocking us all season.
The more the better. It has to get so uncomfortable for everyone there for them to wake up and start doing things. There is still no highly organized effort with resources to drive it.

Onward Setonia is basically being done like part time work.

Whoa—where was it said on here our NIL was $2.5-$3mm?? I never saw anything close to that.

I thought it was a struggle to barely top $1.5mm.

Slick Rick even mentioned it in his post game—SHU is dead last by a long shot.

If we had $2.5-3, Kadary and Dre would be here.

Weird people are arguing over the spend of this year's roster when we lost to Fordham an winless Monmouth and Hofstra. How much money do you need to beat those 3 programs? Let's focus on the root of the problem first before lighting money on fire.

another ignoramus enters the chat. because of NIL sha tried to find value with guys like zion harmon. starting pg. who you may have realized hasn't played a minute. and having no PG being the reason we lost to those teams.

btw, wondering if we have more money than fordham tbh.

How about history and ability to win in the past? This year there were 10 new players. That ridiculous. Sha has needed continuity in the past and he isn’t experience enough. Plus he tried an experiment that failed with going with younger players that struck out in their freshman years.

Clearly not enough.

But oh yeah, we also have had a major problem with how the money we do have was spent and how the team is coached too. We put one of the worst offensive teams in the country out there for far too long. Guys who could not even hit a layup, it's a joke.

Dre Davis with 5 big points yesterday. I'm sure his father is thrilled with his development. He would be a double double machine here. I know I know all about the Benjamins.

Sure the $$$. He had 2 points versus Alabama, a road win. But if you watch Ole Miss games you see Davis is playing 29-30 minutes. He’s probably the fourth option on offense. He’s in there for defense, hustle plays, keep the ball moving and some rebounding. He’s on the court late. And he’s playing on a top 20 team. Was never going to be a pro. He’s doing very well for himself and his family.

I would imagine both Richmond and Davis would've stayed and gotten their money and been featured if they could have. Sha also made public comments that his wife got close with Dre's GF and he told her to stop doing that in this day and age... smh.

Anyway, Davis is nowhere near the player he was at The Hall last year. He's part of a good team, big time environment, is ranked, and will be in the NCAA Tournament plus is getting like $800k if you believe what's been out there.

He's started every game at Ole Miss but plays just 26 MPG (down from 33), averages 9.8 PPG and 4.9 RPG. His offensive rating is way down as is all of his shooting % and usage levels. Not nearly the same flow he had here, but cest la ive. He's playing better defense though, so there's that!
