Christmas Eve at the Carino's

Lovely piece by Jerry and -as a 100% Italian-American-- it was especially enjoyable for me. Oddly, the Feast of the Seven Fishes was never celebrated on either my mother's side or my father's side. (Both were southern Italian). Baccala --aand no other fish-was served Christmas Eve by one aunt on my dad's side and I agree fully with Jerry that it wasn't very appealing. To me, it looked and tasted like something produced by Monsanto.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to one and all here at Pirate Crew!

Loved the story.

As a kid, celebrating with my large Italian family on my dad's side, we never did the seven fishes as was never big thing in his family, plus it was a really large crowd of people coming in and out, so fish dishes didn't really work well anyway.

As got older, and since been married, we have been doing the Seven Fishes, but we do not do any of the "old school" stuff like eel, baccala, smelts, etc., as we stick to the more mainstream dishes.

Merry Christmas to all. Buon Natale.
