Mutiny on the Bounty

To throw in my $.02, rather than worry too much about the starting line-up I'd rather see the team take advantage of their depth and play much, much faster. Maybe this will backfire and just result in us getting beat by more, but we're struggling to create much of anything offensively in the half-court so why not try the approach of simply trying to beat the other team down the floor? Push the pace, make frequent hockey-style changes a place a focus on wearing down the opponent. Take some risks, what's the worst that can happen? There's no more Q4 games left to lose. As things stand WE are a Q4 loss for VCU.
That is what was supposed to be this season but, alas, quality depth is nowhere to be found.

What starting lineup would you like to see?
Since you asked:

Gus because from what I have seen he is the most offensive talent big man we have. He is a fan favorite too. Let him play till he fouls out. I think the more he plays the bigger role he will take scoring and he does try to score more so than any of the other big men we have.

Felton at the point because I think he has the talent to be an even better version of KR.

Coleman obviously he can score.

Chaunce he can score.

Tubek/Middleton both have talent and can score.

This team is NOT going to the dance or NIT. So start now building for the future and develop the kids who are going to be your team next year and the year after.

I think we would all like to see much higher scoring games than the boring games in the 50's and low 60's and losing anyway.

Play the guys who will shoot and encourage them to shoot and press the hell out of the other team the whole game. Give starters a rest as needed.

Also a bit concerning is the remaining schedule features superior defensive teams than we’ve played so far as well as the BE teams familiar with our offensive sets.

There are seats available for $6 and 7$ before fees on Stubhub for the marquee OOC game at Prudential. There are actually a couple of tickets listed for $1. Hopefully, things can turn around within this season. If not, it has to be a one off.

Without the upper level being open either too.

Football Sunday, opponent, what’s happened to date etc so not totally surprised

No buzz. The team stinks and is irrelevant. There’s next-to-zero marketing or community engagement.

We played a Sunday afternoon game right around Christmas in 2019-20 against Prairie View of all teams when we had so much buzz and drew about 9k.

Our 2PT% by games. I didn’t realize it was possible for a BE team to be this inept

Probably not too far off from our 3pt percentages, especially if you exclude Dual.

Totally agree on Felton and Middleton. A freshman and a sophomore who will only improve and hopefully be retained. Felton has shown point promise in limited time and Middleton can shoot it and unlike most of the starters does not force shots. Sha’s defense first starting line up has way too much limited offensive ability.

Right now its well over $100 to get into tbe Hall at Rutgers' game on Stubhub. Can't wait until we turn this thing around. Looking forward to the next time we play an important game at The Rock.

If you bet on football or root for a team outside the area then it is Football Sunday. For Giant and Jet fans The Hall offense is more exciting. Maybe some Drones will appear over Metlife????

Felton
Jenkins
Coleman
Middleton
Okorafor
That's the one I'd like to see. We aren't going anywhere so we might as well put three scores on the floor (even though Middleton hasn't really scored much yet). Felton will take his lumps but he's not much of a drropoff from DAW or Dual at this point.

No Jenkins in lineup
Of course not. Gotta keep playing Dual so we can justify his payment and recruiting ranking even tho he stinks. Then next year he and Felton transfer, wusu and Jenkins graduate and we have truly nothing at PG. brilliant

And then the people on this board who think Sha is doing a fantastic job can continue to come up with excuses and blame NIL and that it is only year 4 and he lost players and he went to the elite 8 at a different school 5 years ago

Think next year might be the last benefit of the doubt season before its rational for everyone to make some changes at all levels.

It's not just that it's bad, or that there were some bad but close losses. It's HIDEOUSLY bad with noncompetitive games against bad teams. There is no excuse for this.

Yeah, let's jettison a favorite son who just won 25 games, and is really the only guy I can think of who can turn NIL lemons into some kind of lemonade. My guess is he's going to have a lot of people in his ear from programs who can buy him better teams. Then when he leaves, the same people (also the same folks who killed Willard during the good years), will call him a traitor.

Overlooking the outcome of the rest of this season and seeing how the next one goes before making a judgement seems quite reasonable and giving the man his due to me.

Hypothetically speaking, if we go 10-20 this year and follow up with a similar record next year, I think Sha's seat simultaneously becomes warm and he starts looking for an escape hatch.

We'd obviously have to see what happens over that time frame to see if the school would make a move. But, if Sha decides to jump before he's pushed, I don't see there being any golden parachutes at a big-time school for him.

His move -- with a record at SHU somewhere around 62-66, give or take a few games either way -- probably means a step back.

Dual
Jenkins
Coleman
Aligbe
Okorafor
As soon as we fall behind by 5 points insert Gus to bring us back. Gus needs 20 plus minutes simply because he moves without the ball. He needs to play to set an example. Guys standing around waiting is not how to play offense. Press 10 minutes in each half, gets guys into the game.

I don't think so. I think he's still got a lot of equity from the run with St. Peter's, much like Shaka Smart did with his one VCU run and then some lean years at his next stop.

Shaka Smart won 56% of his games at Texas, made three NCAAs and won an NIT.

He did have one very bad year at UT but it was his second of six. He made the NCAAs in his last year before using the escape hatch to head up north.

Shaheen's situation would potentially be quite different.

Why are you so set on Okorafor? Did you see anything on Sunday to change your mind just a tad? Ditto Aligbe.
You have to understand the match-ups. When you play a power 5 school, many of whom have big powerful centers you will need an Okorafor or Godwill to matchup. That said, Manny's play was so lackadaisical Sunday that he was taken out less than 3 minutes into the game never to return. If he continues on that trajectory then yes he does not deserve to start.

Regarding Prince....he's a defensive presence with a powerful body. But he's limited on offense so with him you mix and match depending on the opposition and the play on the court. If you need offense early you might want to play small inserting Middleton who finally showed what he can do in a faster paced game. If you need to stop an opposing 4 man with size you have to go with either Aligbe or Toumi.

You may be right but from what I have seen to date Okorafor and Godwill did not exactly dominate the lesser big men they faced so far. Quite the opposite. They were the ones dominated. So going forward I hope you are right. We will soon see.

Aligbe had a couple of good games but I do not see him the same way you do as a defensive presence and powerful body. One board and 2 points in a home game against a mediocre team the Cowboys. I wonder where the powerful body and defensive presence was this past Sunday? Let's see if he shows us something against RU where we will need the qualities you see in him.

I have only been watching SHU hoops since 1963 so what do I know.

I agree on Aligbe. He has no outside shot and cannot finish at the basket. His one scoring game was against NJIT and he will not see that type of lower level talent the rest of the year. So when you combine him with either of the 2 centers you are left with 3 other starters who might get you some points. (And Prince is at 56% on free throws and the 2 centers are 43% and 25%). For a team that just can’t score I don’t see how we can go forward with that. Middleton should absolutely start so at least you have another source of offense - and this assumes the other 3 are Jenkins, Coleman and Dual. (Dylan needs to be a sub, not a starter). And if Felton is not injured and still on the team he needs sub minutes at the point.

The two centers are both so, so raw as they are relatively new to the game. You're more likely to see rough games for them than you are solid outings. Hopefully the lumps they take now result in them becoming solid contributors down the road.
