Chris Cornell vs the Virgin Mary

Chris Cornell, whoever he was, merits an ongoing thread on the basketball forum. The Virgin Mary at Fatima is quickly shunted to the Life off the Ship forum. Thanks for proving my point.
IMO ... both topics belong in Life off the Ship. Maybe a quick mention here to get attention of those interested... and then to "Life Off The Ship".

Many off topic posts stay on the main board for a few days unless people hijack the thread and an argument starts. The Fatima post was hijacked into a discussion atheism/communism being taught in our schools within 5 posts. Otherwise it most likely would have stayed.

Of all the thread titles, this one is epic. Omg. Lmaoooo

Chris Cornell did an outstanding version of Ave Maria. So there's that?

The Life of the Ship Board is designed to voice views on politics. I think discussions on religion should also be relegated to that Board because many people have strong feelings on religion which could cause hard feelings. Debates on music not so much.

Contemporary music comes with its own worldview. People have strong feelings on their music/worldview, which can cause hard feelings. Therefore, all discussions on music should be relegated to lifeofftheship, along with the pinup girls that Dan likes to post from time to time (no we did not ask for that).

Oh stop! Lol. You never heard the expression about not discussing Religion and politics with friends? Why throw pinup girls into the equation?

Let's get something straight.

This board is run at the pleasure of Tom and I for the Seton Hall community. We get next to nothing working this site. So unless you want to volunteer your services and try and do a better job I would take that into consideration when responding as you just did.

The so called pinup girls are pictures of male and female cheerleaders and they are posted at the request of our readers here. Not as you suggest a whim and pleasure of mine

So before you make an ass of yourself as seems to so often to be your want know your facts.

Since we're playing innocent here let me set the facts straight.

You brought up a subject that was not being discussed on this thread and then felt the need to attack me because it irked you for quite a while. So long in fact that you just had to say your piece regardless of the fact that there was absolutely no truth to your comment.

Further, you equated male and female cheerleaders as pinups because God only know why.

And now that you been called out on it and have no defense you bring up the comment about making an ass of yourself.

Well if the shoe fits......

If you run pictures of cheerleaders, predominantly female, scantily clad for weeks on end but cant keep a post about the Blessed Virgin for more than a few days because apparently the latter is offensive to some, then you are being wildly inconsistent. And, I never attacked you. I simply drew attention to the inconsistecy. Meanwhile your horrible name calling is the sort of thing for which other posters have been banned. Another inconsistency. Just saying....

Catholicman, For the vast majority of posters, religious discussions are controversial and can easily escalate into hard feelings. Dan moved the Virgin Mary thread to the other Board because a spat was escalating. Other than your posts, there were no problems with the Cornell and cheerleader threads. You are picking fights for no good reason other than to push your Catholic and religious agendas.

This is a sport site not a religious one. Still, I keep most off topic threads up here that should be on the the Off the Ship board until I see fit as the moderator to move them for reasons obvious to most everyone but you.

The male and female cheerleader's pictures posted here (by request of our readers) are no different than what these youngsters wear at the sporting venues we all attend,. If you think they are scantily clad then maybe you should take that up with every single president of every university in this country because clearly you have an issue that goes far beyond the scope of this site.

Disagreeing with someone in a reasoned way doesn't equal a fight. When people turn it into one it reveals something. I never bring up religion on the main board, except to defend it and sometimes to point out incongruities. Most religious people put up with a lot. When we push back a little, watch out!

It's amazing that a catholic university has pin up girls (and boys) go to and perform at boys and girls bball games....

You need to go on a long retreat and maybe never return. I'll pray for that to happen.

I asked for that. Also, music does not bring out "hard feelings"

This is pretty ridiculous you guys are making a scene about this. Go outside.

I think Dan and Tom do a great job of allowing various and sundry off-topic posts run their course. IMHO, all OT threads, shortly after generating some discussion, should be bumped "Off the Ship," which, usually they are.

Religious posts only cause dissension because of a few small-minded cretins who just can't let something like a post about the anniversary of Fatima pass without making a snarky comment. Usually the same people who are hyper-sensitive about any allusion to something he/she is protectful of.

That said, any post, basketball or otherwise, is a candidate to go off the rails here.

Am I the only one amused by the use of the term "pin up girl". I feel like a portal to 1955 just opened up. This thread is the bees knees.
I was born in 1964! But i deliberately used that quaint term to indicate non-pornographic, somewhat immodest material. My point wasnt so much that the cheerleader thread was lurid, as it was definitely off topic and its headline deceptive. I clicked on it because it said: 'you asked for it.' I thought it was good recruiting news!

Anyway, the Fatima thread had just as much right to be kept here for weeks as a thread on a nihilistic musician or a thread focusing primarily on female pulchritude (beauty).

A snarky comment did not knock it off track, a political comment was the culprit. I wish that comment could just have been ignored, but it begged for a response and got one.

Oldalums comment actually was pertinent to our Lady of Fatima, as she came to warn the world against Marxist atheism, some of whose ideas still linger in the halls of academia.
