Well, he didn’t launch PayPal or Tesla. That’s the thing. Most people give him credit for founding these companies when that is not true. Martin Eberhard and Mark Tarparning are the true genius’s of Tesla. How horrible that 99% of people have no idea who they are.

Eberhard and Tarpening are little known because they didn't grow a successful business. There are countless tales of that scenario. FTR, they did not invent the electric vehicle.

Bill gates didn't invent a DOS. He had the balls to bluff IBM and the rest is history. The so called geniuses who wrote the OS sold it for $75,000 because they were short on cash.

Without Musk, Pay-Pal and Tesla would not be where they are today.

Your post about Ray Kroc was good. Same thing. McDonalds could be nothing without him.

Tom Watson Jr. didn't invent the computer but he had the brains to transform IBM from timeclocks to an Industry Giant.

Ford did not invent the Automobile.

JP Morgan and Tesla didn't invent AC but they mad a shitpot of money putting it to use.

Musk makes himself out to be the developer of Tesla. A genius. He is not. He had the foresight to invest in it. That doesn’t make u a genius. That’s the point. Where have I not been clear. He is no Steve Jobs. He’s Ray Kroc. Hall 85 you apparently can’t see the distinction of my point. But you are as obtuse as ever.

Obtuse? Your post reeks of it. So is your point that Musk just put his money into Tesla and did nothing to contribute to its success? You even admit to and give him credit for creating SpaceX.

I don’t own any stock of any of those companies but if you can’t admit Musk is a smart guy and visionary, you’re the one in denial. Once again, you put your own money into Tesla.

What is it that you can’t comprehend? He is not a genius. He does not create and transform the world. I think my analogy that he is a Ray Kroc but he is no Steve Jobs is right on point. If you can't understand the difference, no sense continuing.

Jobs 160, Musk 155, close enough for government work.
I sm not quite sure the legitimacy of this article but this is a quote at the end.

"All of this data implies that Elon Musk has a significantly higher IQ than the ordinary person or businessman. We see him as a genius because of his accomplishments, yet he is more of an astute businessman than a genius."

I agree.

I never said he was a “genius”…your words so you’re arguing with yourself. He’s a very smart, visionary who has built several successful companies. Comprendo???

This is your post.

“He is worth 200 billion, so whether he invented it or bought it, he has created material value. The scientists that came up with the vaccine are geniuses as are the executives from Pfizer and Moderna that made the investments and decisions. That's a silly argument to marginalize what he has done at Tesla.”

Your comparison here makes it clear that you think Musk is a genius.

Enjoying the Musk fanboying here.

Hope everyone has ordered their Tesla and agrees with him that that climate change is one of the greatest threats to humanity and that taking the carbon from underground and burning it is the dumbest experiment in human history. The guy is a visionary after all..

Lol…
I have no idea what you are referring to.

I am an early supporter of Tesla since 2013. however, if you can’t see the hypocrisy of Musk you are not being truthful.
He wants full freedom of speech on Twitter yet the first thing he does is suspend a Twitter feed that spoke about him.

Musk is an egomaniac who seeks out attention and the truth many times doesn't matter to him.

I would prefer that Musk concentrate on Tesla. And I certainly do not want him to die. U need to know that He is no Genius. He didn’t create Tesla or the technology or had any inkling about creating an electric car. He bought into the company in which two guys actually created the company and kicked the founder of the company out.

He is a promoter not a genius. He is no Steve Jobs. He’s more of a Ray Krok with Mc Donald’s. And look what happened to Apple when Steve Jobs died, it actually became even more valuable under Tim Cook.
cerns original post regarding Musk and genius.

Actually the thread was started by an outraged rant by cern crying about the impact of his Tesla stock. I don’t own an EV, not a PayPal user, don’t Tweet and don’t have any plans to get on a SpaceX.

The same people that loved Twitter cesspool when Dorsey ran it now hate it because Musk owns it. The same kind of censoring was good then but is bad now?

I think taking carbon from underground and burning it for energy has been the greatest experiment in human history. Its success allows us to afford the standard of living and luxuries we enjoy today. Life is a lot less difficult thanks to fossil fuels.

and conversely, the people who hated twitter because it was “too liberal” now love it because Musk told people to vote for republicans and is joining in on the culture war.

Moderating content is complex, sometimes appears arbitrary and mistakes will be made along the way.
Dorsey learned that while running the company.

Content moderation is and will be necessary on any platform. Musk believed he could take over twitter and get rid of the moderation, make it a free speech zone and not make the same mistakes. Instead he has learned that content moderation is complex, sometimes appears arbitrary and has made different mistakes including making rules out of vindictiveness and spite and going back on changes he implemented a couple days afterwards.

Once again I have to prove you wrong. Why do you do this to yourself. I started the thread to point out the hypocrisy of Musk. Nothing about outrage or that I own the stock. How many times do you have to be proven wrong? You should quit while you are behind. Btw, i hate Twitter then and I hate it now. Here is my original post

The self proclaimed defender of free speech just suspended the Twitter account of the person who tracked Musk’s private jets arrivals and departures. https://www.cnn.com/2022/12/14/tech/elonjet-twitter-suspended/index.html. Now Elon is threatening to sue the kid.

This guy needs to get back to concentrating on Tesla. Stop all this nonsense.

I agree. They are a large part of the successes behind developing nations and still need to be a part of our energy needs especially in areas that are rapidly developing.

I do think we are also headed in the right path in investments in alternatives and the nuclear fusion announcement was obviously incredibly exciting but a few decades away.

Wow, you are unhinged tonight. “Quit while I’m ahead”….lol

One rant does not make the first rant look any better. I’ve always hated Twitter…you just hate it now because he doesn’t support your partisan views. How superficial….AND it’s hurting your pocketbook…

Not a rant just telling the truth. And you have done nothing but expose yourself as weak, uninformed and a liar.

Do you really know what Musk “thinks”? It’s a business, and yes, content moderation is one critical and complex part necessary to attract and retain users. At the end of the day it will come down to number of users and monetizing them. He’s a lightning rod to the MSM and he’s getting tons of free advertising as the face of the company. I still have no interest in Tweeting but I’m not and never been their target customer. What’s worse than extreme content are the algorithms that push the user to echo chambers.

So genius, wouldn’t that be the smart thing to do? Like, he owns the company (did you forget that?). This is how business works. Did you really think he was going to continue to run it as the CEO?

Crazy thing is he’s made it more profitable in the process while the number of users has also gone way up. Now they will take their time re-building the platform. He’s a genius, at making more money. I’m sure he bought twitter knowing all along how to make it more profitable.

and the winner is M & M, Musk & Merge inc.
Has a nice ring to it as well!
Tagline for the new company, “if you can’t beat him, join him”

Cern:

A guy is walking down the street and bumps into an old high school acquaintance. The acquaintance was a really good student in high school, straight A, went to college and got a good job at the local bank and made a decent living for himself.

The acquaintance noticed that the guy is wearing an expensive suit and just got out of a really fine car and recalls that he bought a really big mansion on the outside of town.

He says to the guy that he is amazed that he's done so well because in high school he recalls that the guy wasn't much of a student and didn't seem to have too much motivation. So he asked him. How did you do it?

The guy responds that he is surprised too that he's done so well and tells him that he has this company that makes widgets that cost him $3 and he sells them for $5. He then says that he is amazed that he could make so much money with only a 2% markup.

I don’t think anyone expected he would stay on as CEO forever, though I don’t think the goal was to be voted out by a twitter poll that he would throw up there after facing pressure from Tesla investors.

No need for the silly poll. Just say that, I have found a successor to run twitter and I will go back to focusing on Tesla and SpaceX. I believe in the worth we have done these last 2 months and that Twitter is better set up for success for the future.

I’d slow down there. I doubt very much he has made it more profitable as of today but there is no way for any of us to know if that is true or not.

Common sense he laid off or lost more than 50% of his employees, plus he opened up the business to the other half of the population. Not to mention, his regular users need his platform to promote their brand. The guy is a genius at making money. Everyone is talking about twitter.

Right, but we don't know how sustainable those terminations are in the long term. We don't know what the outcome of the legal cases will be for all of the employees suing twitter for violating state termination laws, or the related fees and we know his interest expense is about $900 billion more than Twitter was paying before the takeover. We know revenue is down and that Musk is seeking additional investors at the same price he paid at $54.20 per share.

Common sense says if he were pitching a more profitable company, there would be a premium on that number.
He's pitching a company with lower operating costs (currently) but increased risk.
