Liberals….we are the party for minorities. How come the party who fights for minorities doesn’t fight the daily crime and killings in the inner cities they run? One would also think they would build up the education systems where the test scores equal the suburbs. Make a thread on that once in a while.

Lol. And we are the party for climate change taking private jets all over the place. Or the party for income equality except when it hits our pockets. Please. I can give you 1000 examples from both parties.

You mean like Davos?

He tried to get on a tour bus but there just wasn't any demand. The Davos tour bus industry from DC was wiped out from Covid. I talked to the owner of the Bus company and he said that's totally legit.

LOL. You know he'd also fire up that private jet to go have a cup of coffee several hours away. We are talking about Heinz money.

Nothing beats Barack and Nancy buying oceanfront properties while screaming about rising ocean levels.

Comical how you don't address anything else on here where the liberals ignore their own stances. Go read up on inner city minority test scores. What have the liberals done to better the group they are fighting for? Why is it good all the liberals take private jets during the fight for climate change? And so on.

What's the issue? They like Beachfront properties, AND don't want millions of people to be displaced by rising sea levels 30 years from now. Not really opposing forces there.

You mean it's comical how he doesn't address anything. Period.

As Dean Wormer said, "Embedding Tweets with no intelligent comment is no way to go through life son"

Irony is ironic. This is the exact way he lives his life.....

"To avoid criticism, say nothing, do nothing and be nothing. And that's not the way I live my life."

In all fairness to Steph, they can build it, IF they build a bigger wall or fence around his community.

The proposed building would be converting a single family home into a 3 story 16 unit building that would be directly looking into his backyard.

Nothing about not wanting affordable housing in his community at all. He spent $30+ million on a house expecting he would have privacy. Any reasonable person would try to fight that.

and if their request doesn't work - "Should that not be sufficient for the state, we ask that the town commits to investing in considerably taller fencing and landscaping to block sight lines onto our family’s property."

^ That seems like a very reasonable request.

A friend of mine once said, "if you want to keep the view then buy it."

Given they don't want the view, would seem to be a much better path to just request the fencing / landscaping.

I'd bet the town would and builder be happy to go along with such a simple request.

That’s absurd. Just about every high rise that goes up looks into someone’s backyard. What’s the big deal if people can see into his backyard like they can for a lot of other peoples. Right out of college my buddy rented an apartment on the 14th floor at Troy towers in Bloomfield. Great view of the city, 4th of July fireworks, and a ton of people’s backyards. Guess what most affordable housing projects are high rises. What’s he want single family housing to be affordable in his neighborhood? Maybe he should suggest a trailer park?

How about thinking of the greater good instead of himself? Or does he only think of the greater good when it doesn’t impact him

Well, most people would not have to deal with the ability of someone to take pictures of you and your family and then sell them for starters.

Just put yourself in his shoes. Would you seriously just be ok with spending $30 million on a property and then letting people watch you, your friends and your family out in your pool? Really?

He's not fighting the housing. There are several projects being discussed that the residents in his area are complaining about. His issue was the 1 that would be looking in his backyard, and that 1 would not have any units for very low or even low income residents... His point being, if you are going to modify zoning rules shouldn't it be for something that satisfies the low income requirements? But if you go through with it, can you give us a fence?

Your making this a way bigger deal than it needs to be. This is not an uncommon request.
Just drive by an area where they have added a multi unit residence like this and if it's near other properties, you will see large fencing or landscaping in between them.

Given they don't want the view,
You missed the point.

Yes, it's not the view that they want but the concept is the same. If you're worried about somebody building something on the lot next to you, then you buy the lot.

He certainly can make the request, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's turned down.

When you buy property you need to check the zoning of adjacent lots and areas.

I suspect Curry did not do that and now he's paying the price. You think before purchasing a $30 million house you would check these things

No I got the point, just not really the same At the end of the day, it still wouldn't make sense for Curry to buy the property. He would just end up putting up a sight barrier on his side. Thousands vs millions, but again... It's a reasonable request that the builder add a fence or landscaping.

Just like when Seton Hall was building their baseball field and the residents asked for sight obstructions and Seton hall agreed to add in Landscaping. Wasn't an unreasonable request.

And this property was zoned as single family when he bought the house.

You're taking it literally.

The real point is he doesn't have a stand to complain about it. You can file for the variance and beyond that he should shut up or sell the house and move.

The current development I live in is on a former farm field. Adjacent to it is a hill where people built houses years ago with a beautiful view of the valley and now they have a view of our rooftops. I bumped into a few of them and they b**** and complain and moan and groan. Did they actually think that it was going to remain a farm field forever?

I also get the points you're making and if he can work it out that's great.

This is literally the process in every town when they are discussing plans for a development.
There is a period for the public to make comments and that's what they did.

That's what any of us here would do as well if we were in his shoes if we're being honest about it. None of us would want a 3 story building being built looking into our backyards (especially if you have kids), and none of us are even famous.

Affordable housing is one of the craziest things I have ever heard of. People see a nice community. They work hard to save the money to purchase a home in that community. Now, the govt says it is not fair, everyone should be able to live there. They build multiple unit house and let anyone move in. How is that fair to the person who took pride in his/her studies and hard work? How does that build pride in the person who received the handout. It sends the message that you don't have to work or study hard, the govt will just give you what others have had to bust their asses for. In the USA we have equal opportunities, not equal results. Every has the opportunity to live in a nice community. They just have to work and study hard to be able to afford it.

The guy flat out said he's worried about the safety and privacy of his family. Do multiunit complexes bring about unsafe people? What kind of safety is the issue? People able to see into his backyard is unsafe quite exactly how?

And landscaping fixes the safety?

I’m not asking you to feel sorry for him, but yes… being a celebrity and worth a couple hundred million increases your risk profile. You don't necessarily want people to be able to see what your children are doing and when you are in and out of your home so easily.

Anyone here who says they wouldn't have requested the same thing at minimum is lying.
