Creighton got COMPLETELY outclassed in the first half. Looked awful. Yet they're only down 11 at the half. Going to be a dogfight on Saturday.

UConn is getting in their grill and playing great defense. Three days off with home cooking. Does Creighton stay in the area for several days or go back and forth?

Comes down to playing Kalkbrenner straight and guarding the three point line.

I think the biggest factor is going to be how well we can get to the rim against Kalkbrenner. He is slow and unathletic (getting majorly exposed tonight), but he's a big presence at the rim.

Kadary will have a huge size advantage defensively on Ashworth. That plays into our favor. Have to contain Scheierman, he killed us last year at the Rock. Be physical with him, get him to play frustrated and reckless - he'll take bad shots. Trey Alexander is their best player and is going to get his. Great mid range game.

Swarm them with defense, rebounding, and physicality. That's the recipe. They are now getting blown out in Storrs, so have to think they'll re-group and be focused for Saturday.

UConn giving Creighton the “Red Storm” treatment… called them scoreless for eight minutes. Wusu on Alexander and Dre on Schierman.

You want to put the 6-2 - 180 lbs Dawes on the 6’6” 218 lbs Scheirman?

Yeah not the strategy I would go with.

Kadary needs to match up on one of those guys and Dawes needs to cover Ashworth who is 6’1”.

Did you read my post? I said DRE on Schierman, not Dawes.

Nope apparently I can’t read.

Miller is also 6’9” and can shoot.

You move too many guys around and they gain the advantage somewhere.

I would still leave Dre on Miller and let Kadary cover Scheirman, and just please close out or don’t wonder. I want Wusu to make Alexander work for all those driving mid range shots he hunts.

Dawes has Ashworth which would be an interesting matchup. Dawes is physical in his own way. I get Wusu on Alexander. Would rather have Kadary on Miller but half dozen of one six of another.

On another front, is it me or does there seem to be a strong fraternity of BE coaches with some of the recent hires. Just seems like these handshake lines you see the coaches having some pretty lengthy, collegial discussions.

Hurley and McDermott tonight, Matta and Miller, the other night, and Sha and Smart recently. Probably nothing, but just caught my eye.

Iowa State already lost this week and Ole Miss is about to lose at LSU. Door is wide open for the Hall to jump into the top 25 with a win on Saturday.
Baylor (9) lost @ Kansas St
Wisconsin (11) lost @ Penn St
Utah St (16) lost @ New Mexico
Creighton (18) would have lost twice
TCU (19) lost @ Cincinnati
Ole Miss (22) lost @ LSU
Iowa State (24) lost @ BYU (20)

Then…
Texas Tech (25) plays BYU (20)
Texas Tech (25) plays Houston (5)
Iowa St (24) plays TCU (19)
Ole Miss (22) plays Auburn (13)

Plenty of movement already going to be taking place. Huge opportunity.

A win and most likely entering the polls somewhere around 18 is my call.

Conference schedules mean ranked teams are facing opponents that match up better than most non-conference opponents do.

There will be lots of losses in the polls between now and March.

Staying puts the players in hotels for 6 nights which is never good for a team. Back and forth has its own issues.

Curious as well what they will do.

Maybe because I'm older now (and have flown close to 2 million miles), but the thought of two sets of 3-4 hour flights with the threat of snow delays in less than a week is more disruptive than camping in a city for a week. But that's me.

Quite certain they'll be staying in the area. No reason to travel home for a day and then go back to basically the same area.

I like Dylan on Schiermann, play Dre on Alexander-Schiermann will certainly NOT like what Dylan brings, and his success is imperative to Creighton success

UConn looking every bit like the #1 team in the country.

Only losses: A nail-biter at Allen FIeldhouse and a beatdown at the Rock. Pretty amazing!
Right now it's you and us at the top of the big east leaderboard, and you own the tiebreaker against us... at least for now.

Boy, is DePaul terrible. 5 minutes to go and Providence has put 88 on the board and up by 30. They have no offensive sets and don't play defense...outside of that....

Was thinking could this be the worst team in the history of the new big east? Outside of Georgetown game They haven’t been remotely competitive in any conference game.

No reason for any Big East team, outside of maybe Georgetown, to lose to DePaul. Hope they go 0-20. Georgetown did beat them in DC but still has to go to Chicago.

As much as we rely on Kadary, Dawes, Davis, and Addae-Wusu to play the majority of minutes (they each average between 30-32 MPG), Creighton really leans on Alexander and Scheierman. Alexander averages 35 MPG and Scheierman averages 34 MPG.

This week they've relied on them even more - Alexander played 74 of 80 minutes in their two games this week, and Scheierman played 79 of 80 minutes (he was out for one minute of tonight's game and played all 40 minutes against St. John's). Kalkbrenner has also played more minutes than usual this week. With one less day of rest and on the second half of a road swing, can we wear them down on Saturday?

As bad as it sounds, Georgetown is way better than Depaul.

Yep, but Georgetown is also worse than the other nine teams. If DePaul manages to beat anyone, it'll likely be the Hoyas.

The is a good point. 12 PM tip too. The intangibles definitely favor Seton Hall, but I still think it'll be a tough game. Have to hold serve at home and keep pace with UConn (how cool is it to type that?!).

That's Creighton's style.

Last year all five starters averaged 29 or more minutes per game. Nembhard played 34 mpg, Scheierman a touch under 33 and Alexander and Kalkbrenner played 32.

The year before six players averaged more than 26 mpg with Nembhard and Ryan Hawkins pushing 35 per.

It might be a little bit of an edge but I don't think stamina is a concern for them.

Creighton really misses Kaluma. Ashwowth is good, but he’s not Nembhard. Alexander is also prone to bad shooting nights.

They’re also with us in terms of depth, second game on a long road trip.

It’s time to beat them.

This.

Also Creighton plays terrific defense. They don’t get a lot of turnovers or blocks or fouls, they clog the lanes and make you work, especially with the big guy back there. Teams settle for 3’s. We can’t do that. But I think we have the type of players and style that can fight through that; Kadary and Dawes have been excellent and creating space that way.

Creighton is going to come in sharp after that embarrassment. They got to bring the A game plus need a big fan turn out to get this one.

That is a good point. If we were Creighton fans, we’d be pretty sour about this game given a hard fought SJU game and then two road games against the top 2 teams in the Big East. From their perspective, this week is a gauntlet.
looked like a road game vs number 1 and then the team ranked 9th in the BE a few weeks ago. Was no big deal until it became one.

Uconn gave Sha the blueprint last night.
You must make guys like shyerman and Ashworth put the ball on the floor and score off the dribble
