I’m starting to feel bad for Dawes and how bad his level of play has gotten. His performance in our 3 games against good teams is shockingly bad and a big reason we get off to slow starts. Hard to believe.

Pretty bad what he’s been putting up on both sides of the floor. This is not a team that can carry such poor play. What do you do with a 5th year player and 2-year starter playing like this?

Otherwise I thought there was some good tonight from Richmond and the centers, at least.

BENCH.

Maybe he needs to sit and watch from the bench for a bit. Is he pressing? Not defending well either. Dre needs to take more 3s as does Richmond. Not sure the answer is sitting him, as we have so few shooters, maybe just need to run less stuff for him.

On post game Gary asked Sha about Dawes shot selection and all Sha said was “he wasn’t making shots. I’ll have to look at the at the tape” Huh? All of America saw they were terrible forced shots.
This was absolutely incredible to hear—encourage others to listen. Gary even asked again because Sha’s response was so non-responsive; Sha refused to bite, despite happily criticizing many other players during interviews.

Dawes unfortunately will shoot us in and shoot us out of games. I think he’s pressing but still it’s not good.

It’s gone on forever. Sha allows it, The level of play is awful.

I’d sit him too. He can earn his minutes back.
Coaches who stubbornly refuse to be objective with their talent and play favorites with no consequences eventually end up as ex-coaches.

Let's hope Sha learns. I totally agree with the coach speak to Gary Cohen, but, privately, it is time to tell Dawes to accept a role as a catch and release 6th man shooter, or if not to cut bait.

Sha was not going to criticize him. Gary had him stuck asking him if was ok with Dawes’ shot selection. The initial silence was deafening. I can’t see Holloway ever bringing him off the bench.

For all the talk about if we still had Samuel, imagine if we had a league-average SG.

Nice post Piratz -- i feel very much the same --Dawes had a nightmare game and I felt Sha was a bit oblivious to have let him stay on Court. He is a great Kid and had a real bad experience--this was a time to have some mercy and let him sit.

Time to have Dawes come off the bench. Put Coleman in the start lineup and let him develop. At least we can still get that out of this out of conference schedule since we won't have any quality wins to show for it.

In the 3 games against legit teams he’s 1/13 from 2, 5/22 from 3. Of the 5 threes, he went 4/12 vs Iowa.

And how about the defense? Abysmal.

I’m as frustrated with Dawes performance as anyone else. That being said the only way we walk out of the #6 team in the nation’s gym with a win is if Dawes catches fire. Sha rolled the dice hoping he would get hot. It didn’t happen.

Now if he continues to play like this against Rutgers (a team we should beat) & Sha leaves him him, then I will be pissed.

Agree. There will be some games, even in the BE, where he gets hot and those who critique his game are scolded as fools.

He had no problem burying Kadary. Cat got the tongue when asked about the golden boy? I can’t stand it.

You see why Gary is one of the greats, by the way. Asked a specific and pointed question that put Sha on the spot rather than a general one easy to weasel out of.

Does anyone know where i can listen to the postgame radio interview. I missed it and have no idea where to find a replay

So what's the presumed reason that Sha treats Dawes differently than other players?

Unrelated, it was cool when we got it down to 3 in the second half (despite the game getting away from us rapidly after that).

Wusu took one contested 3 in second half and you immediately saw sha turn to the bench screaming for Coleman. Before Coleman could get in Dawes got his 3rd foul. Only reason wusu got to stay in, and for most part wusu was playing all around good game.

He RARELY and wayyy more often than not doesn’t catch fire against good teams, but he ALWAYS shoots even if he’s cold and he always does that contested step back crap. So to think anything else is a probable outcome is such a delusional way to think. Big enough sample size, it doesn’t help the team. Let someone else fire away like he does, it cannot be worse (sanders, kadary, Davis, ANYONE)

It’s a major blight on sha that he has yet to do something about this after seeing it for well over a year. It’s dereliction of duty as a coach and it’s total BS that he throws players under the bus all the time but never the one player who needs to be held accountable more than anyone. It’s such an unpleasant situation that I’m starting to lose a little faith in Sha that he just doesn’t get it and it’s barely watchable basketball. It is that unpleasant. I hope sha learns the error of his ways and tightens up

Why Baylor is better than us-
-Great passing/ball movement;
-Can shoot;
-Rebound with energy;
-Have a high quality deep bench;

These are things we can't or don't do with any level of consistency.Dawes was embarrassingly awful but unless we can improve the above it's going to be a long season.I don't see our shooting or depth improving to that level but we should be able to competitively rebound and move the ball.

A blind man can see how bad he has been. C’ mon, Sha, don’t be so quick to critcize other players while tap dancing around what Dawes has been doing.

Nothig new from Al. Always had a terrible shot selection

He is going to shoot 7-9 from three Saturday night isn't he?

We had a guard last year who could not shoot, but played D as good as anyone in the league. Some fans wanted to run him out of town. I don’t see him shooting out of this.

You pretty much watch him drive you into the ground always hoping for a light to come on a la Jamir Harris.

At least Jamir was hurt. There’s a valid excuse there.

We were told jamir just had the yips 😂

How close they are and how close Sha is with his advisor outside of basketball

To me it has everything to do with the flow of the game and he’s just not playing with his team right now. Too much dribbling and not enough passing. I’m not going to kill Dawes because if he starts playing inside the framework of the game his shots might start dropping. He clearly needs to be coming off the bench. Good teams take open shots in the flow of the game, surprised Sha let him take one forced shot after another. We need to get this offense moving, what happened to the offense Sha had with Saint Peters cutters, ball movement, open shots. I keep hoping something is going to click and these guys will start playing together. Clearly not going to happen with Dawes in the starting lineup right now. Give him some time and he very well could surprise all of us, he’s clearly pressing and anxious to break out resulting in bad shots and poor decisions. Trust me he wants to win more than anyone on the team and that’s why Sha has stuck with him.

How do we know that? Maybe if we play Coleman we get off to a better start.

Dawes is the worst starter I've seen in the last 7 years. Other bad players in the program at least came off the bench but I can't remember another starting guard playing this poorly
The numbers are scary in the 3 meaningful games. You’d be hard pressed to find worse production for the many minutes played. It’s been atrocious. He’s been lost on defense too. You would’ve had significant improvement in these games if you played literally anyone else there.

Dawes is not this bad. Not sure what’s up there and Sha seems like he’ll just keep letting it go. It’s going to put Dawes in an embarrassing spot too bc he’s going to get all the animosity running out there like this. But hey, that’s what they get paid for!
