Elizabeth Warren’s Wealth Tax

sounds like youre very much trying to be food woke.
Wanting the truth is not woke. I'm not looking to cancel Nabisco or Tyson or Perdue. But get the truth out about things work. Don't lead people to believe X is the cause of problem when there are redacted government documents that show Y is the real problem.

But there should be something like deaths from heart disease or diabetes being up though, right?

I haven't looked into this, but I thought the rate of heart disease deaths for example was generally on the decline? Also believe I read something on this board actually that suicide rates and drug overdoses were responsible for the change in life expectancy?

cant exactly argue against this country getting fatter, although ive never lived in an area where this is true.

that article is a bit hard to understand at times. says overall heart disease deaths decreased, age adjustments, etc. perhaps we are keeping people alive

There's aspects of heart disease that are getting better but there are other aspects that are getting worse so when you put the whole picture together of heart related issues....it increases.

In total increased, but age adjusted rates are down per the study. Just decreasing less than it had been decreasing.
Woohoo we're keeping people alive with heart disease better at a better rate even though more people have died. If things are getting better why are spending more and why are they anticipating higher spending. Inflation?

Well yeah, as people live longer, more people will be alive with heart disease. 50 years ago, they would be dead years earlier.

I'm not against promoting a healthier diet at all. I just don't believe the American diet is the catalyst for a decrease in life expectancy at this point.

In the last couple of decades researchers have been doing interesting studies between nutrition and mental wellness. I know you mentioned suicides and drugs as a catalyst for a decrease in life expectancy. They could find my belief could be at the core of your belief. Bottomline is there is a ton of uncertainty but I think generations from now will learn a lot from us.

technology and social media are the reason for mental illness and depression.

plus as its being normalized more people are going to get diagnosed.

Totally disagree. We are an unhealthy population and post age 65, the incidence of diabetes and heart disease specifically, is much higher than other industrialized nations. Much of it has to do with decades of poor eating habits that comes to pass in our retirement years. Diet also impacts the onsets of diseases like dementia and Alzheimer's.

Come one man. You don't think there was mental illness and depression 50-500 years ago pre social media and typewriters?

Right... I don't disagree we could do much better.

I just didn't agree it has anything to do with the recent decline in life expectancy. Life expectancy has been increasing for decades. The US diet was generally pretty bad during many of those decades.

My understanding abut the recent decline in life expectancy was that it was due to overdoses and suicides which had increased.

There's also the harmful chemicals in our soaps, deodorants, and shampoos that impact those disease.

1) it existed but its increasing tenfold because we are simply recording it and...

2) there was not as much depression back because minds werent put through algorithms on how to get them hooked and unhappy. thats exactly what im saying.

1) Increased tenfold sure, but the core reason for it is not technology. Technology just makes it be everywhere.

2) People were tougher. They weren't trained to get a trophy when they lost. They spent their days doing stuff with other people. You choose to allow them to play their algorithm games on you. Go take ground balls and have BP with friends at the local park or look at your phone, the choice is yours. Amazing there was less depression back then when you got smacked right across the mouth much more. Food was also less processed back then. HFCS wasn't a sweetner in almost everything.

Well, the CDC calls Diabetes and "epidemic" and the numbers are not good trend-wise.

you realize technology is whats making the food "bad" and thus causing the depression, in your mind?

haha the "old i was tougher when i was a kid". you didnt have it around, engrained in your life. i always hate that answer. its psychological warfare. sure they should pick up a ball, but not that simple.

its a way better answer than the food. which is potentiallu a good answer

Sure technology is making the food bad, but we have a government that is there to protect us. If they don't protect the people what are we paying taxes for? Why the hell should the super rich give them more if they're not providing their most basic function?

theyre probably working pretty hard on national security. going to be hard to do everything from stopping terrorists to figuring out the risk reward vs modern day food advancements for the non wealthy.

Amazing that they have the time to take money from the food lobbyists with everything they’re busy with

whats the solution? theyre not going vegan and not buying $8lb chicken
Make it more affordable to eat healthy. I read somewhere a while back if a family of 4 paid the real prices of eggs, meat, and dairy, it would cost them an average of $275 more per week at the supermarket. The government makes it easy for people to eat crap. Make it cost effective to eat healthy.

its capitalism. how does the government change that? gonna see alot of farms and supermarkets close

It's capitalism that the government subsidizes the meat industry keeping their prices low? True capitalism would cost that family of 4 $275 more per week. This is anything but capitalism. My opinion the government wastes our money on so much crap I'm not against them helping out the food industry but follow the science, not the money. Subsidize meat a little less, subsidize crops more. Don't make health elitist where the rich can afford healthy products and the poor will go broke trying to eat plant based.

it sounds like yiure saying expensive healthy food shouldnt be as expensive? the govt needs to subsidize organic farms?

im guessing theyd spend twice as much to feed twice as less?

do you have the subsidy data? thats be interesting to see. id love to see what youre refrencing

Do you think most should be ingesting some form of probiotic daily? That is a cost right there.

Feed our people? Make our people healthy? Fund Iran?

Most of the population is walking around with $1,000 computers in their pockets, but have little or no interest in using them to improve their health (diet, exercise, etc.). It’s not that expensive to eat healthy and get basic exercise that can prevent heart disease, diabetes or dying from a virus.

Government? The whole food pyramid was built on false assumptions and probably the biggest contributor to the poor health we are in compared to the rest of the world.

absurdly acidic. vinegar is no friend. take a page out of tom bradys book and avoid.
Meat is acidic as well. One spoonful of sauerkraut daily for probiotics is probably less of a problem than than a cheeseburger. I’ve read Dr. Aviv’s Acid Watchers Diet. If you’re concerned about acid, I would think the ph balance of most meat is a problem.

meat is a sponge, actually soaks up acid in your stomach so dont be afraid if you have acid reflux issues/ obv avoid the highest fat ones if you can but to compare it with vinegar is laughae. ph is logarithmic and vinegar is on the lowest end you can ingest.

i know, i see aviv in person ;)

My sister saw him a few years ago. That’s why I bought the book.

The government should step in and not allow animals to be treated like a car, they're animals. I'm gladly willing to pay more for an animal that could be outside and be raised humanely, versus locked in a barn with 30,000 other chickens, inhaling their own crap, and never seeing daylight. That is bad for the animal and nowhere near as healthy for a human to consume.

Holy crap, this thread. I agree with you, I’m for humane treatment of animals but damn if I’m not going to eat them.

I eat steak. I run marathons. I lift weights. Some of the meat shaming and plant based diet plans are making me cringe. Though I did go with sushi for the twins’ birthday tonight.
