haven’t read Shaheen’s post game comments but how you can allow Harper to get that shot off is just terrible situational coaching and/or poor execution by Dual. You dont want to foul but you saw him drill a couple of 3s earlier in the game and everyone in the arena knew what RU wanted there. Terrible way to lose that game.

I do feel a bit better about our ability to win a few games in conference play. If Shaheen is truly figuring this team out and find the right 8 to 10 rotation my guess is we win 4 to 6 games rest of the way.

Also, Holloway and whatever other brain trust we’re using to think about next year’s roster should be focusing on how we retain:

* Coleman
* Dual (get in the gym and work on your shooting son),
*. Okrafor(capable Big East nig man)
*. Felton
*. Middleton,
* i guess Aligbe (probably should have had a few more mins yesterday)
*. I’m assuming Jenkins out of eligibility
*. Toubek (figure out a role for this guy please)
* I guess Gus the bus for his enthusiasm and decent bball IQ

Let’s get some continuity going with a core of players if possible and then use the Portal to bring in some shooting and make sure we have guys who can shoot 70%+ from charity stripe.

Program has to get some continuity going with roster as i do think Shaheen can develop that core into a decent team.

***Jenkins, Addae-Wusu, and Toumi are done after this year. This is the last of the 5th-year COVID players, thank God. Everyone else could return, conceivably. I don't know Sha's take on asking players to leave in this day and age of P4P Free Agency.

***Okorafor, Aligbe, and Harmon are true Juniors. Okorafor had a strange freshman year at Louisville where he only joined them for the Spring semester and played in 5 games. I guess that burnt a year.

***Rest are true freshmen or sophomores (FR = Felton, Erheriene, Yalden RS, SO = Coleman, Middleton, Dual, Tubek).

Just try to win games. What else is there? The opening 6 games to the BE is not a gauntlet: @ Villanova, Georgetown, @ Xavier, DePaul, @ Providence, @ Butler. But then again, we're not good.

If it was normal times it'd be all about Coleman, Dual, Middleton, Erheriene, Yalden, etc. Getting them working well as a group then going out in the Spring and landing a stud guard to pair with them. I guess it's still that because otherwise what's there to watch? But without any commitment any of them will be back, it's hard to look at development the same way because they could all get better and all be gone.

Dual was the culprit on Harper's 3 .

Tough game but team finally started showing some fight in a hostile environment. Two big mistakes by Sha. Kept Garwey on bench way too long. Wusu should only be the point in spurts but otherwise Garwey needs to be playing 32 min at least. At the end I would have had the inbounder double Harper and not let him catch it. Take him out of the play completely and let someone else take the big shot.

Sha has to tell the guys to forget about the non conference record. Can’t change the results. It’s a brand new season in conference play. Focus on being competitive in conference play and continuing to grow and we will see where we are when the BET starts.

We were up 45-44 when Dual checked out at the 12:12 mark.

While he was out It was a trainwreck offensively with rushed shots and dumb turnovers by the 5th Year players, lack of movement, so many empty possessions. Dual came back with about 6:30 left and it was 51-50 Rutgers.

shocked we only lost 2 points in those 6 minutes. O was not good. not half as bad a result as i thought. keeping him on tge court at pg is maybe not as bad as i thought. still dont like it.

dual is getting there. imo his offense will get better. nice 2 man with okorafor, who may be our biggest story from yesterday. 10 times better center play than we had gotten before.

dual, scottie, zay, okorafor...hope they all hang around

Okorafor has shown something last night. Him and godswill move very well for their size. Gus has really good footwork for a big, just needs to lose some weight and get stronger and lighter on his feet. If we can keep them for a few years i think our bigs situation is really solid when its hard to find decent big men

But so many missed opportunities to extend.

When Dual came in the next few possessions were crisp and he made passes Wusu cannot. He hit Okorafor on a pass that Manny blew the layup, then hit Coleman perfectly on a curl who dumped it off to Manny for a dunk. None of this was happening with Dual on the bench for 6 mins. We scored 5 points with him out 6 mins then 7 in 3 minutes after he came back in.

We are so offensively challenged. All those RU turnovers we forced in the first half and very few points off turnovers. I really believe a better team is up big at the half after turning them over so many times. That and FTs killed us last night.

I liked the fight I saw. If we play with that energy and urgency in the future we might steal a few games. Shas substitution patterns continue to confound me.

It was a good shot by a good player…bad defense yea but he had to hit the shot

On a bigger trend though kind of highlights that for being so defensive minded in the Sha era we are atrocious defending the 3 against any kind of component opponent

Seems like it has been a weakness for 3 years

Was at times under Willard too and they use a similar style of switching defense with focus on deflecting passing lanes that can lead to open perimeter shots.

Harper and Bailey were 6/10 and some of those were tough, deep shots.

Agree

i feel the KW teams were better at overall defense though…but seems like Shas teams have been better at press/trap chaos defense which I actually do like

i am not a fan of wusu at pg. i saw the offense go nowhere when dual sat. i didnt watch the replay but figured we lost 4-5 pts while dual sat. so the case can be made that, yes, the o isnt as good with him leading, but overall, we are as good as the other options cause of the rest of his game. we lost one bucket in 6 minutes afterall.

my thought after the game was sha sitting dual so long lost the game. now i am not so sure

The key to playing us is to swing from one side to other. If the opposing team does that, they almost always get an easy look.

We need to press the ball, esp top key and not let them easily move the ball from side to side, we don’t do that well.

Rutgers didn’t do that much either which made our D look better yesterday, except the Dual whatever that was at the end of the game.

That was a great game and while we want to win them all, we showed improvement and the boys provided encouragement for the next 18 league games. Sha out coached Pike. we need to keep showing support. let the fickle fans support the Jets.

Have to give Harper credit for making a tough shot. He changed direction at full speed. Credit goes to the kid that made the play, not anyone else… realistically if we hit FTs on a consistent basis or at least 70%, we win yesterday and are 9-2 heading into league play.
