not a bad replacement for Aikens. 4 Star 6'2 SG. With this focus on guards for 2016, I still assume we're recruiting over Soffer who will transfer out after this season. Still need a quality 4 or 5 to match or possibly even replace Delgado who is still in his mind set to go pro after this season.

I'm confused... Did he commit and I missed it?

Otherwise it's not so much a "replacement", but a recruiting target.

One of the recruiting sites, I think 247, predicts us. But IMO, they usually predict the last place a kid visits.

And this is the most positive thing Bobbie has posted in 9 months!!

I really think we need a quality big man than another guard at this point. I'm assuming Whitehead is going to be here in '16-17, w/Carrington, Thomas, and Powell. Where are there minutes if Gordon comes? Is he waiting 2 years to get quality minutes? Now if Whitehead leaves it's a different story.

Same would have been the case for Aiken... The coaches are going in with the mentality that he is leaving as a CYA approach. And if he doesn't well... Hopefully we make a major run during IW's Junior year and most players - especially frosh - are content with being on a team that makes noise in march and stepping into a bigger role as a Soph.

Could you be even more of an ass? Even if you think this is the case, can't the kid play a game before signing his transfer papers, or you signing them for him?

This board is a proctologist's dream.

Indiana is reportedly the favorite for Gordon with Butler also in the hunt for the local Indianapolis prospect.

Have an interview with Eron. It will be posted on the Trove early next week.

How about if we see Soffer play, before we throw him under the bus.

Weve had transfers every single year. Safe to assume we'll have one next year. I think its sound logic choosing our lowest profile player.

Name calling is the lowest form of disagreement. Basically cause you have no other argument. Gonna challenge him to a fight next?

If you dont like choosing worse players to transfer for better players you are not a winner and your opinion is harmful to the goal of making seton hall a winner.

Sure, Soffer could turn out to be our best player, but right now Bobbie is just trying to fit the pieces together and hes going off of all he can.

The issue I have with Bobbie's comment is that at this point of time with no information on which to make an informed judgement he's transferring him out. How about waiting to see what his skill set is until he's been on the court and has played against college competition . The example I point to about the value of waiting till there's enough info to make an educated analysis is Donald Copeland, a player who just get better and better every year after people wrote him off early in his freshman year.

Nobody is trashing him. Bobbie simply is trying to figure out how to make enough space for him.

Like when we started getting more recruit commits than spots last year and everyone was like "someones gotta transfer"... and it was Ajou... same thing here. There isnt room for everybody and we need space desperately for another big man.

There's a significant difference between saying we need to make a ship available to bring in a player and identifying by name a particular player who should transfer out especially someone who has been on campus for less then two months and he's only an incoming freshman. To do that is unfair to the player.

Bobbie Solo did not say we should choose him to transfer. He is speculating the guy we might be trying to replace. Pretty easy when you break it down by position. (Yes i realize if you asked his opinion it wouldnt differ). We know that we need to make a ship available, hes guessing how it will happen.

And hes not addressing it to the player, but to the fans on this thread. Absolutely nothing wrong with that. If we are worried about that player reading it, thats not Bobbie's fault. Dont come to this board. If you cant take the heat stay out of the kitchen. This is the big leagues (or we are at least want it to be). Bobbie is being completely fair. Willard is actively recruiting at a full position, dont bring the issue up with bobbie. And dont act like hes a complete question mark. From what we know hes low man on the totem pole. I dont see anyone predicting him to be on the starting roster... why not?? Hes only been here 2 months you dont know! Please....

Telling fans what they speculate on a message board is in bad taste, is in itself bad taste. You guys have made a mountain out of a mole hill and ultimately making the situation 10x worse.

I have no ill will toward the kid. I hope he comes in and lights it up for us from deep every night & that I'm completely wrong about what I think will happen in the future.

I also don't think what gets posted here will affect what a kid does in any real way, so I don't mind being blunt about what I see as a very real possibility. We have a kid who no one was recruiting & committed to Loyola MD at one point. And now we have a more highly ranked 3-point shooter committed for next year and we continue to go after more guards. Yes he's 6'6 or so, but Desi & Singh look to be handling the 3 spot for the foreseeable future. So Soffer transferring is a very real thing, even thought he hasn't played yet. The same thing was said about Grennan, Wilson & Ajou, and it all turned out to be true. This doesn't seem to be any different.

This thing where a bunch of you act like white knights swooping in and protect the players on a message board is odd to me. Look around the internet a bit. The way the program is discussed here is so timid compared to real programs with a national prominence & following. Fans are well within their rights to make judgement calls on who is staying and who is going down the line as soon as they want, and then express it in a location whose sole purpose is discussion of that team. Especially when transfers are so common now. We just had 3 leave this past season! You're crazy if you don't think another kid is gonna leave come May 2016. I'm not allowed to speculate on who I think that may be? Please....you guys are so uptight.

I personally don't have a problem with BS's posts on this thread as it seems reasonable to wonder how we can fit another guard into the puzzle next year. I think the issues everyone has are based on the fact that this is the free board and all the players have access to it, which is understandable. I would hope they have thick enough skin to not let anything they read bother them, or have the discipline to stay off public message boards if they don't. I try to post on the free board with the assumption that the players will be reading it, but that's obviously not going to be everyone's approach. His original post pales in comparison to the stuff that was posted last year during the Sina and all the other fiascoes.

Anyways, back to the original topic, is Gordon a top 150 player?

Just saw he's ranked 107 on Rivals' site. Pretty good for this stage of the game.

At today's open practice Desi didn't hit a single three, Singh was lighting it up and Soffer hit at least one three. Desi is very gifted at slashing and running the break, haven't seen any evidence yet that he can drain the 3 with consistency. So let's not count Soffer out yet as a contributor.

I think the importance of a one dimensional player draining a couple of threes is grossly overstated. Soffer at best is going to be spotted for 3-4 minutes a game and you have to hope he gets an open look or two. You can't drain a three if your teammate doesn't get you the ball or if you have no space to shoot it. I'm sure the other coach will gameplan for Soffer when he does come in and he'll have to contend with a D1 college level SF, who will likely be infinitely more athletic with size.

Even guys who were talented shooters like Auda sometimes have trouble adjusting the the speed and size of college defenders. Other guys are not bothered by it. Am interested to see how Soffer looks on the court.

Over the course of time we have seen many "not so athletic" players who have destroyed us by bombing from deep. Want to look at prior Pirate teams, well how about Nick Katsikas on the Final Four team. Yes speed of the game is a factor but the quickness of release is also. If you have a player with that outside ability yes the defenses may adjust to him but that also leaves someone else open. Point is that shooting is still part of the game and don't discount the value of an outside gunner.

I would agree on the frontcourt, but we first need to see what we have here. I think Nzei will be a player, but what about Carter? Can Anthony improve? What's Sanogo? A 4? Desi's a 3?

Delgado could be the best big in the Big East and while I expect him to have a great season, I cannot see him leaving after this season, so assuming he'll be back.

Love the in depth Soffer analysis without ever see him play a minute in a college game...thank you for your very credible insight into his matchup analysis against other D1 small forwards.

Butler and Indiana are not recruiting him. From what I can tell, only Seton Hall and Nevada are. He just never developed and he evidently is going to have qualifying issues

Well indiana hosted him at their hoosier hysteria this weekend and memphis has a visit coming up. Not sure where your getting the qualifying issues info but he is in pursuit by high major programs.

Your info is the same as mine and add Auburn to the list of high majors pursuing him.

Don't discount it, but don't over-rate it either. That's all I'm saying.

We definitely need a big but I think Gordon sounds like a great get. There will be room for a big as well.

It's in poor taste to discuss where that ship will come from.

Just completed our interview for the Trove. It will be posted tomorrow on the pay site. Gordon told us he's down to 4 schools, with SHU being one. BTW Indiana is also listed.

I remember katsikis hitting one three in each of the 89 ncaa games. I can't remember how he helped us in that great season. Anyone remember?
