Fan safety during COVID

I can only speak for myself. When people are dying from COVID 19, I do not see using caution as being an over reaction. I have missed very few Pirate games over the past 40-50 years. Same goes for Jets games. Been a season ticket holder for both teams & am in the high risk category. The thought of sitting in a packed arena/stadium with thousands close by sneezing or coughing on us is just not appealing to me. I'll see what develops as time goes on but giving up my tix for both teams is a definite possibility.

yeah you're right everything's fine

That's not what I said. Why did you ignore the numbers from March through May in Florida, when they didn't have a problem?

This is what happens in the world today. People ignore facts and data and just bend things to suit their perspective. Everything needs to be looked at objectively, without any bias.

Guess it's just easier to type a sarcastic sentence on the internet instead of having a reasonable debate with someone, though. I really fear for our future. Social media has destroyed human communication.

Florida Gov also said he feared that super bowl travel allowed covid to fester in greater miami area late jan/early feb...then that area had spring break travel a month or so later...didnt florida have a quarantine in place for residents of certain northern states some months back

you have a problem with everyone ignoring facts and data when they say stuff is bad, no problem with the fact and data when it says everything's ok. the truth must be that everything's fine! great news!

Here's a chart with some facts and data. Obviously it says everything is completely fine, we all overreacted, and covid is not a big deal. And i for one, am extremely relieved! Phew!

It's clear that you're not interested in having an educated debate, so I'll just leave you with this series of posts from a News 12 anchor that sums FL's situation up quite well.

No offense, but isn't that you on the mask discussion?
Ignoring facts and data because you don't like masks?

BTW, looking back, this is what I said about Florida.

that’s all well and good... but it’s going to take a lot more than 11 days to understand the impact of reopening. It takes that long to develop symptoms of you become symptomatic at all.

Entirely possible the people there take it seriously enough and there is not a spike in hospitalizations and deaths... but will probably take another month before we know.

A month later, hospitalizations in FL are increasing.

It's such a shame that these spikes will result in additional death and are avoidable. Greatest country on earth but we fight about wearing a mask that will help protect our community for a short period of time?

What does the virus experience in the EU have to do with the virus experience in the US? Two totally different societies. The US has 50 different states with cultural differences abound in each one. The EU is a bloc of countries that share a similar mindset.

No, as I said it is not about the mask wearing itself. It is about the precedent the government has set by forcing it upon the people.

And how are these cases in FL and elsewhere avoidable? The virus will run its course regardless of what humans do. It is the height of human arrogance and stupidity to believe we can substantially alter its course.

you're right dude! i'm agreeing with you! you have a good explanation for every data point saying the virus is exploding across the south and it could have been preventable! you have convinced me! everything is fine! it's just as fine as you said it was weeks ago! thank god

I agree. The number of cases is not that relevant for the most part.

But... why is the rate of positive tests the highest it has ever been in FL while the positive rate in NJ is the lowest it has ever been?

What? Are you this incoherent normally?

Simple. The virus has now reached Florida. It rolled through New Jersey 2-3 months ago. Why is this so difficult to understand?

How is it that South Korea was able to stop the spread right away?

Did it work its way through there? Why not?

thank you dude. i agree that it is the height of human arrogance to think the US could be like Korea, Taiwan, Germany, Italy, Spain, Australia, Greece, Ireland, Norway, Netherlands, etc. you're right!

Wrong. There were thousands of cases in Florida when they shut down. It stopped spreading because they shut down. They reopened which presented the circumstances for it to start spreading again.

Because South Korea is a tiny country compared to the US and has a militaristic/authoritarian culture. Quite simple. It's easier to contain a small area than an area the size of the US.

On a micro scale in this country, what happened in New Rochelle, NY is a good example. But expecting 50 state governments and citizens to be on the same page? Unrealistic.

All small countries, especially compared to the US. Australia is the only exception, but nobody lives in the middle part of that country. All on the east and west coasts for the most part so again, smaller area.

You are not doing yourself any favors. You're a typical internet troll not interested in conversation and educated debate.

Yes, exactly. You're describing human behavior...

i'm not trying to do myself any favors, i'm doing YOU the favor, you're right. the virus is simply working its way through the US, nothing can be done to stop it, there are no examples of a large population spread across a comparably sized land mass divided into separately governed states simply using better, clearer leadership to sharply depress the number of new cases on a similar timeline as the US. it simply cannot be found

Okay, what "clearer leadership" would you like to see? Government leaders are telling people to distance and wear masks. What more can be done?

well I would suggest this is not good leadership, unfortunately

the CDC has been consistently undermined by the president and your republican pals running the governments in florida, texas and arizona

The CDC is an official government agency. My republican pals? Lol, you know nothing about me. Registered independent.

I voted write-in in 2016 (ironically Joe Biden) and I will be voting for Biden in 2020. Again, you know nothing about me. I am also a two time Obama voter FWIW.

Some more background for you, @itsacurse, even though I don't owe you anything. I am an honest and transparent guy.

My first presidential election was 2008. I registered as a Democrat because I supported Obama and wanted so badly to vote against Hillary Clinton in the primary.

In 2016, with Hillary on the ballot in the general this time, I could not in good conscience vote for her. I also could not vote for Trump as I felt he was unfit for the presidency. Hence the write-in vote.

In 2018 I changed my affiliation to independent/unaffiliated because the Democratic party had moved too far to the left for me to feel comfortable and I believe in people thinking for themselves rather than following a party line.
