Fetterman v Oz debate

I never watched Dr. Oz's show, and know very little about him. What has he done that makes him such a bad candidate on this board? I have a friend who worked for him and wrote some copy for his show who could not stand him. When I asked my friend why, he just said he was an ass. Then he tells me Oz did come to visit him in the hospital when he was sick to check on him but still said he was an ass. Why do people dislike him? What policy makes him extreme? Thinking posters from PA. have a different take.
the question is what HAS he done. nothing politically. no career in politics. hes not a PA resident and never bas been. he has no idea about pa or whats good for pa (this is a big one). hes a celebrity who cares about himself and has been caught in multiple medical scams. pretty scummy.

is this a real question?

From a policy standpoint, he is not extreme at all. I think the biggest criticism (which is legitimate)…is that he never held a political office..Experience doesn’t count anymore apparently but then again Congress has itself to blame for that.

Other criticism is that he isn’t really a PA resident (Much like Hillary wasn’t and she ran for US Senate in New York).

I do find it interesting that the person who got his TV career rolling and profited mightily from it was…..Oprah. You don’t hear much about that and both have been silent about that.

I think the two things that hurt Fetterman the most last night were suburban independents will shift to Oz and voter turn out in the cities as likely to soften.
the only compelling thing for oz is that oz has actually shown some intellect and skill being a doctor. fetterman is missing this

Fetterman campaign said they were thrilled with his performance.I know that is campaign speak but the comment is so silly it caused laughter in anyone who saw the debate.

If you take the candidates out of the picture and just look at their positions and policies, Oz is way more moderate.

Oz with no political experience and an incredible ego. He is accomplished both educationally and professionally though. Fetterman disqualified himself last night IMO.

Wish Toomey would’ve run again, but I think the best choices for PA are Shapiro and Oz. Both flawed, but the other options are horrendous. And the third party candidates are very poor.

I’m an independent, and would’ve never voted for either in the primary if I was registered to either party.

does Oz's positions mean anything if he has no idea what hes doing politically? his positions are just what theyre telling him to say. hes in it for fame and fortune. and has no idea whats good for pa.

i might hold out hope for fetterman resigning. i feel bad for him. pretty awful what a stroke can do to someone. everyone treating him like an idiot or an invalid. now, hes clearly not fit but hes not mentally challenged. pretty tough thing to stand up there after a stroke and know youre bombing in front of the entire state.

i wonder if theres any talks about a replacement situation before election. i dont think it will lose dem voters, potentially retain them.

I watched the entire debate and post debate analysis on News Nation. They continue to do a good job of non-biased reporting and having different points of view. This was really a bad decision to trot Fetterman out there and looking back, he should have taken himself out of the race after the stroke. The second place candidate (Connor Lamb) was a moderate Democrat who would have done extremely well in the PA suburbs that are so critical. I think he would have crushed Oz head to head. Philly and Pittsburgh will go for Fetterman...his performance is not going to help turnout in those cities which is really Oz's best path to victory.

Amazing when you are humbled, how much you can eat crow and change your image. I think Cuomo is getting "only" $1 M/year at NN and he is doing his best to play the pragmatic non-bias news guy to rebrand his reputation. I give him credit, but his ego is still so enormous and he does come across to me as phony making believe that he is friends with all his guests. I do watch his show when I can as he is getting some good guests and does ask provocative questions.

Its hilarious how much you have flip flopped on Cuomo. Holy moly.

I felt bad for Fetterman but remember, he had the stroke BEFORE the primary and he could have removed himself from consideration and let Lamb get the nomination. Incredibly selfish on his part because he may be the one person that ends up costing the Dems control of the Senate.

Agree most will not change their vote. Sheep.

As I said earlier, the two things that will come into play are suburban independent voters (not sheep judging by how their votes swung from Obama to Trump to Biden), and Philly and Pittsburgh turnout.

it’s a dead heat right now and Oz had the momentum. I don’t see how Fetterman’s awful performance slows that down.

To be fair, it was right before and there was a chance he could have recovered by now.

I’m fine with him staying in and going g for it… but he did t get there. He needs some kind of reassuring sign to people to get some momentum back to have a chance. I personally would not vote for him though and don’t expect him to win.

yea i mean the stroke happened like a week before or something. i dont fault him for wanting to continue to see through all his work getting to that point. i dont think theres a post stroke playbook. i do wish Lamb won but he got like 1% or something. thats not fettermans fault is it?

We know now it was a major stroke and we have to assume he has a number of underlying health issues because he’s shut down the questions on providing health records. And we also know the stress and requirements of a U.S. Senator is greater than a Lt. Governor (whose poor attendance record has also been reported).

It was selfish in that he has put the control of the Senate at risk.

Yes, did a decent job in the debate. Didn’t know he wasn’t from PA. Not much of a choice for people of PA. I thought maybe he was a child molester or harassed women on his show. These days anything is possible having no experience seems like a positive to me. We have a President with lots of experience and tons of others with lots of experience and nothing seems to work right. I’m for term limits so no experience works for me, medical scams may help him in his new line of work. Lol

Well I certainly won't be voting for him this November.
The charges against Menendez in that previous case were really weak. I never thought he would be convicted on those charges. I think the only thing that could be said was that when asked how many trips he took on Melgan's jet he answered like 5 or 6 and it ended up being 19. Well, that is a big difference although that is not a criminal offense. Just made him look bad.

This is just an investigation. However, when things like this leak from the US Attorney's Office, you know they are looking to indict. Will be interesting what come out of this investigation.

Menendez has to be one of the biggest crooks going in a business full of crooks. I'm sure he has his people take care of all his issues behind the scenes. Guy only cares about power and money.

I don’t know the inside of Menéndez business or personal life.. Just curious what makes you say he is one of the biggest crooks? You must have some good inside info.

My opinion and all the smoke that has floated around him for years.

That’s one link….there’s pages of stuff about Menendez…just look for yourself
That's the thing. What I have read on him are the allegations that were in the indictment which were very weak at best like getting Visas for models. And this prostitution story which has debunked.

I hear people say he is corrupt but Shu09 acknowledges it is that its just his opinion. Now he may end up being correct if this investigation reveals anything. But there is not much meat to it.

He’s a sleaze bag…whether it rises to the level of a prosecutable case is up for debate.

Ok. But what specifically? This guy gets a lot of visceral reaction. But what specifically? That’s what I’d like to know. When you say Ted Kennedy someone can point to chappaquiddick. Trump and you can fill a book. But Menéndez you get a general he’s scum but nothing specific. Just asking a question.

Google and there is lots of stuff out there. I posted an article from NBC as one example.

“Google it” is a code word for “I can’t articulate my position well despite my strong feelings”

Seems to be perception that he’s a part of the “democratic machine” and open to taking bribes or “gifts” for favors. No idea if it’s true or not. I don’t have strong feelings on him. Apparently his son is likely to be in congress soon as well. That’s the stuff that drives people crazy honestly. The party should not have endorsed that idea with the smoke around his father.

Because I already gave one example. He’s been investigated before. You know that. Pretend that didn’t happen?

Google it is actually code for not having any patience for people who aren't open minded and have to have every bit of data handed to them.

Right, he has been investigated.
There is smoke, and probably fire somewhere. Hence the “perception” I mentioned above.

I don’t think cern was being closed minded when he asked why you believe Menendez is one of the biggest crooks in the senate.

Maybe it was the gifts and vacations that he received which he had to pay back? Maybe it was something else you know of? Maybe you know people who have worked with him? Really could be anything.

I don’t like Menendez politically and think he should have known better than to accept lavish gifts, even from friends while in office.

I was doing a little digging on Oz to understand his connection to Pennsylvania. Turns out he is married for 30 years to a granddaughter of one of the founders of Asplundh. She is an author and radio personality who grew up in Philadelphia.

Asplundh is a $4.7B privately held tree trimming business (you may know the orange trucks) headquartered in Willow Grove, PA (just north of Philly)

OZ owns a home in nearby Bryn Athyn.
