If the SHU cannot fire Willard this year do to extension and its payout, then fire his man Lyons.

Hope Lyons proves it. Until then, all I see is an AD who was hired due to his relationship to Willard, and gets to take credit for the fact the school finally started to putting money into athletics. Any AD hired would have looked good with the capital improvements the school has started to make.

Maybe so, but if his hands were in on what appears to be too large of a buyout for the school to take action, doesn't that bring him down a few pegs??

There are many other candidates out there who can do as good as or better than Lyons. His present silence on the state of our flagship program is very telling. Iona might just be the perfect level for him.

With all due respect, I don't find Lyons silence an issue at all (yet). I personally would not expect him to come out and make any comments/statement DURING the season. Up until last night, there was still an expectation that making the NIT was possible. Seems highly unlikely after that L on National TV, but who knows. If he remains silent after the NIT announcements are made and the season is officially over, then I have an issue with that.

With the complete implosion that happened at The Hall the last 5-6 weeks, in my opinion, nothing warranted him to make a statement or hold a presser or whatever. The season was still going on, would you have expected him to say anything other than the company line/fluff/complete BS?

Now that ALL the results are in, I hope at a minimum a statement is released after its confirmed this extremely disappointing/frustrating season is definitively over.

how can we believe any statements that come out? we have won 1 game in the final month and a half or Willars fifth season we all know his combined and Big East record for this tenure . If Lyons puts Willard on his own little pedestal or whoever makes the decision and he is retained for another year then not much hope. We do have some players coming back hopefully but its time for a better coach to coach them. This has been said over and over but if they have him back for another year then this program will be in big trouble for another few years unless we get lucky and make the right hire. For those who thinks Lyons is such a wonderful AD that's because look at what we have had in the past to compare him to. Minus Richie Regan. Good man and good AD. He cared so much about the school and the students. He even supported football when we had it. Went to Roselle Catholic and had the school but bigger stands because he knew and I was told this directly from him that he realized football no matter what level is very popular and knew that the students wanted it. Gave us a little school spirit with Homecoming Alumni DAY etc. and that led us to basketball season. In 1977 the team after it was dropped and voted back by the students drew over 7500 at Owen Carroll field for the opening game against I believe Wagner. Yet the prior AD FR. horgan once told a bunch of people that we either have big time football or none at all. I say all this because Lyons now has the ball in his court. He can truly put a stamp on his position and leadership role by making a change this year. Like within the next week or so. He knows our history our passion and our frustrations etc. If he doesn't do anything only give a statement and say its next year that will determine Willards fate then forget it. its all BS.

Maybe Lyons is the most talented AD the school has ever seen.
But if he got us stuck with Willard via an extension and/or is sticking his neck out for him to get another chance with this roster for next year, then his inability to put aside personal relationships will override that talent.

Uktimately a Seton Hall AD rises or falls with men's basketball. Everything else is gravy.

Who cares how talented or dynamic Lyons is if Seton Hall men's basketbsll remains an unmitigated disaster? Especially if his objectivity is proven to be clouded or compromised by a personal conflict of interest.

yeah, WBB has been great with Bozella, baseball and some other sports are back to playing near the top of the league, but none of it matters in the grand $cheme of things if MBB is in the toilet of the league...

Exactly. It is all about the disaster that is men's basketball. Willard has coached himself out of a job, plain and simple.

We hired Willard's buddy to be the AD and now we learn Willard has a buyout that is basically unimaginable. There literally is not one thing about this buyout that adds up other than the close relationship of Willard and Lyons. Since no media in the area seem to be interested in nailing down the terms of the buyout, we're just left to wonder about it. But until I hear an explanation of it, the buyout is on Lyons' shoulders.

The amazing part of this is that through the years (I've posted on this board since I guess 03 or 04) whenever there was discussions about getting rid of a coach, it was always a contentious issue here. Even Gonzo had many supporters up until the tumultuous end of his final season when everyone agreed we needed to move on. That was an extraordinary circumstance that went beyond the court. But I've never seen the fans this much in agreement that a change was needed purely from a basketball point of view (I assume it was like this for Blaney but I was in high school then). Other than a handful of people, nobody can even find a positive argument to make for Willard to stay. And this includes many posters who are always amazingly level-headed.

They both may need to go. Many questions here that need concrete answers.

As a loyal Pirate fan, I would like to know the terms of the Contract, but really the terms of the extension and when it was done. I would like to know if it was done by Lyons, Hobbs or whoever.

I may be biased because Williard was not my choice from the start and I thought we paid him more than we needed to given that he was from a MAAC school.

I think we need a head coach with great media savvy skills and more importantly, excellent recruiting skills. Usually, there is a correlation. I would love that coach to be a great bench coach as well. Did I mention I wanted a coach great at player development and coach who brings in good kids. OK, I want it all! Go Pirates!

If they're keeping Willard fine, we'll have to live with it it, but an explanation to the fans that support the program would be nice. Any public school's fans know the terms/buyout of their coach's contract. So let's go... out with it. Call the Ledger, set up an interview and answer the questions.

That makes way too much sense for a man like Lyons who seems to be challenged by doing the right thing.

Only posting this because it's already been "bumped". But grow up. You come off like a 10 year old.

They ere going to fire Lyon's. However, he has disappeared and no one can find him. He was last seen consoling his bro Willard after our Big East loss.

Abortion? Wrong use of the word. I think you might mean aberration.
