THE GAME

Seton Hall will return to action on Sunday, December 29 when it when it heads to Indianapolis, Ind. to face BIG EAST rival Butler. Tip time is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.

LAST GAME
Freshman Jada Eads (Orlando, Fla.) had a career-high 25 points and the Pirates defeated Providence, 51-40, in the BIG EAST Conference opener for both teams on Dec. 21 in Walsh Gym. The Pirates' suffocating defense held the Friars to just 40 points and forced a season-high 30 turnovers.

Eads had a game-high 25 points on 6-for-12 shooting from the floor and 11-for-15 shooting from the free-throw line. She collected her career-high in points for a third straight game. Faith Masonius (Spring Lake, N.J.) had 18 points to go with five rebounds and five steals.

Kaydan Lawson (Cleveland, Ohio), who made her return to the court after missing seven games with an injury, erupted for eight points, a team-best nine rebounds, three assists, four steals and a monster block with 1:49 remaining in the game.

AGAINST BUTLER
Seton Hall and Butler will meet for the 24th time in history on Sunday with the Pirates owning a 17-6 all-time series lead. The teams only met once last year due to the BIG EAST's unbalanced schedule and Seton Hall came away with a 64-50 victory in Hinkle Fieldhouse. The Pirates have won 11 of the last 12 games in the series.

SCOUTING BUTLER
Butler's second-year head coach Austin Parkinson returns eight players, including top point producer Caroline Strande, who averaged 15.1 points per game last season. The Bulldogs added a veteran wing in Kilyn McGuff from Belmont who started 33 games for the Bruins. Butler went 15-17 overall and 6-12 in BIG EAST play to tie for ninth in the standings.

This season, Butler is picked to finish eighth in the 11-team BIG EAST Conference, one spot behind the Pirates. Strande was named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team.

The Bulldogs enter Sunday's contest with a 10-4 overall record and a 0-1 mark in BIG EAST play. Butler opened BIG EAST play on Dec. 21 with a 66-43 loss at DePaul. They collected some quality victories in the non-conference schedule, including games against Indiana and in overtime at Milwaukee. Butler fell in double-overtime to Wisconsin on Dec. 11.

Decent road victory 69-49. Jada Eads with 26 points. Now 10-3(2-0). If they can steal a couple against the upper tier BigEast teams, they could make this an interesting year. The next one I believe is at Villanova on New Year's Day. They look improved and more talented than last season.

Eads, Pirates Handle Bulldogs in Hinkle, 69-49​

INDIANAPOLIS, IND. – Freshman Jada Eads (Orlando, Fla.) scored a game-high 26 points to lead the Seton Hall women's basketball team to a convincing, 69-49, victory in Hinkle Fieldhouse on Sunday.

The Pirates used a 10-0 run just moments into the contest to take the lead for good.

Eads collected a career-high in points for a fourth consecutive game. She was 10-for-19 from the floor and also had four steals.

In all, five Pirates scored at least eight points. Faith Masonius (Spring Lake, N.J.) had 10 points, four rebounds, four assists and three steals. Yaya Lops (Stamford, Conn.) tallied nine points and four rebounds. Kaydan Lawson (Cleveland, Ohio) had nine points, four rebounds and three assists. Savanna Jones (Eden Prairie, Minn.) had a career-high eight points and four rebounds.

THE STORY:
Trailing 4-2 early, the Pirates went on a 10-0 run, and a stepback jumper by Masonius, gave them a 12-4 advantage with 2:22 left in the opening quarter. Seton Hall's defense held the Bulldogs to just 2-for-14 shooting in the first 10 minutes and took a 12-6 lead into the second.

The Seton Hall offense erupted in the second quarter with the Pirates connecting on 11 of their 15 shots for 73.3 percent, including 2-for-3 from three-point range. The Hall methodically increased its lead throughout the second and took a 38-25 advantage into the locker room. The Pirates shot 56.7 percent from the floor in the first half, compared to just 26.9 percent for the Bulldogs. The Hall, however, committed 11 turnovers and was called for 12 fouls Butler took 14 free throws in the first 20 minutes compared to just three for the Pirates.

Lops connected on a corner three-pointer to give The Hall its largest lead of the game, 58-36, with 8:45 left to play in the contest. Butler answered with a 9-2 run to cut its deficit to 15 points with 6:21 left, but the Bulldogs couldn't get closer. Eads scored the contest's next seven points to put the game away.





THE NUMBERS:
  • Seton Hall was 28-for-63 (44.4%) from the floor for the game, while Butler was 16-for-46 (34.8%). The Hall was 5-for-17 (29.4%) from three-point range, while the Bulldogs were 4-for-17 (23.5%).
  • Eads had a career-high 26 points on 10-for-19 shooting, including 3-for-6 from three-point range. She also had four steals and three rebounds.
  • The Hall out-rebounded Butler, 35-to-29, which included a 13-to-10 edge on the offensive glass and a 17-to-4 advantage in second-chance points.
  • Masonius had 10 points, four rebounds, four assists and three steals.
  • Seton Hall was 8-for-9 (88.9%) from the free-throw line, while Butler was 13-for-20 (65.0%).
  • Lops had nine points, four rebounds and two steals.
  • Seton Hall forced 20 turnovers, while the Bulldogs forced 15. The Hall had a 16-to-9 advantage in points-off-turnovers.
  • Lawson tallied nine points, four rebounds and three assists.
  • The Pirates had 40 points in the paint, compared to 22 for Butler.
  • Jones notched a career-high eight points on 4-for-4 shooting with four rebounds.
THE NOTES:
  • Seton Hall improves to 10-3 overall and 2-0 in BIG EAST play, while Butler falls to 10-5 overall and 0-2 in conference play.
  • The Hall is now 18-6 all-time against the Bulldogs.
  • Eads has collected a new career-high in scoring in four consecutive games.
  • The Hall has now forced at least 20 turnovers in nine of 13 games this year, and in both of its BIG EAST contests.
  • Seton Hall has now forced more turnovers than its opponent in 12 of 13 games this season.
  • With nine points today, Lawson surpassed the 400-points mark for her career.
  • The Pirates collected at least 10 steals for the 10th time this season.
