So the fact that Seton Hall staged a comeback to win a baseball game at Holy Cross, as if they were a bunch of Pirates, goes against Catholic ideals?

Most words have more than a single meaning, and are used in different contexts. Some are bad. The overwhelming majority are harmless. Somehow we’ve gotten to the point where we are seeking out the worst in everything, and in doing so trying to find something that isn’t there, no matter how harmless it may be. It’s sad.

Apparently. I’ve had many priests during basketball season say nice shirt or big win yesterday after mass. I’ve never once had priest tell me they need to change the name pirates.

I believe there is a fine line from an historical pov for any entity being inclusive and not offending to any race, creed, culture while still embracing the significance of what history is. I feel in a certain way the acute decisions of the last few weeks is somewhat of a backhanded insult to our african american people and citizens...why has it taken outcry of some tragic deaths for these changes to happen at this time and not in the past...
Jefferson Davis was the confederacy president and a senator from Mississippi, our American political party system was different through the mid 1800s than what it is now.
There were also Confederate soldiers that fought on the same side as union soldiers in the mexican american war...

With that side also not sure that Fighting Irish and Pirates are the best representation for team nicknames for two catholic schools

Thanks...was asking sincerely. Personally, I have a hard time watching any politician right now because 99% is all partisan BS. Just don’t see the attraction to watching a Trump rally.

I watched about 15-20 minutes in total between eating in the backyard and catching a few minutes here and there. One laugh where he brought of Biden mixing up his sister and his wife. Then he went political rally 101, AOC will be in charge of environmental protection if Biden’s President. Talk about a scare tactic. Lol

If you asked me 2 months ago, I'd say yeah it probably should be gone. But today, screw it. We're getting rid of everything people don't like and at some point enough's enough. We're getting to the point people are going to suggest taking US history out of the classrooms because while this nation is filled with greatness it's also filled with flaws. Because it's flawed we must destroy it.

Since we're getting rid of statues immediately maybe some out there hates our historical figures so much, I will take all of their Washingtons, Hamiltons, Lincolns, Jacksons, and Franklins if they are looking to get rid of them..

The triumph of America against the odds to have independence and democracy is an important and great part of our history that should always be celebrated. The genocide of native Americans at the hands of explorers, colonists, and some of those well-known presidents is an important and terrible part of our history that should always be remembered. Just about taking the bad with the good and not pretending to be better than we are

One of the problems today is that young people are not taught civics and many have no knowledge of American history.

I’m sure moderating these boards is incredibly time consuming for what I imagine is little or no compensation. So splitting duties among the boards probable helps alleviate some of the time commitment. He’s obviously very invested in this board and the trove with combing though thousands of post, securing interviews, etc. if he wants to let someone else handle LOTS I don’t think there’s an issue

I'm not trying to be a wise guy, I'm generally confused. I see the younger generations spitting out what a terrible place America is more than a love of country. Based on that, I don't see what you're getting at because to me it seems we focus only on the negatives of the Native Americans and slavery and less on the parts to be celebrated. And now you're telling me the opposite is true. It's been a while since I sat in on a history class, so I honestly don't know.

As far as pretending to be better than we are. WE ARE THE GREATEST COUNTRY IN THE WORLD. Are we perfect? No. Will we ever be perfect? No. But we need to move forward and always strive to be better. All I know is if there was a better place to be, people would be working their ass off to get a one way ticket to that place. How many celebs said they were leaving this country if Donald J. Trump was elected President? How many actually left? My opinion that says it all. That's how great our country is, even when people think it's at it's worst, they won't leave even if they have all the means necessary to do so.

I thought it was great. The reason people like him is that he's NOT a politician. The swamp hates that. I was never that into politics until I saw how corrupt our government is by what they have been doing to him for 4 years because he's an outsider. The more the left piles on the more his supporters support him. Do you ar anyone here not see the corruption? The fact that the left will do anything to destroy him including destroy the country to do so? I thought you had to be smart to graduate SHU.

Be nice to the left. Without them he might not have been the nominee. Anytime he spoke all cameras were on him. The left didn't want Hillary running against a politician. They gravitated towards Trump trying to make him the nominee because there was no way America would elect that guy over a career politician with the resume of Hillary Clinton. That would be the most absurd thing ever. Then Trump won Florida, then Ohio, and so on. Thank you CNN. Thank you MSNBC. Without your help he might have never won the nomination.

I have read both Grant's and Lee's memoirs. I have deep respect for both men.

While both did great things to help the reconstruction, I do not understand how they allowed the Confederate flag to endure.
