They blindly followed the ridiculous lead of the pres, and what they may say now is meaningless to me. Remember, he was the guy who had a hunch that it would just go away. And so did FOX. The guy probably thought the cdc was part of the deep state when he cut the budget. Smart guys I work with were telling me a while ago it was a liberal media plot, just before our office was shut down.

Anyone else wonder if somehow corona was good for the dow, would the pres be its biggest cheerleader?

NO news today is not political. This is not an accident. We could have Satan running for pres on either side and he would have a 40 percent approval rating. My wife listens to cable news all day and I dont know how she can do it. It numbs my brain just hearing it in the background.

Somehow, the all powerful lib media let Reagan and Nixon have to two biggest landslides of recent history, and chased the biggest liberal champion out of office.

Remember, when we cry about "they are so unfair about Trump", Clinton killed Vince Foster, and Hillary lead a child slavery ring out of a Brooklyn pizzeria. And who was that idiot who said Obama wasn't an American citizen? As for collusion, John Gotti was found not guilty a bunch of times...

Unbalance the budget, start wars for BS reasons, blow the debt to places unimagined, and stay silent cause your guy did it. Create new tax law expressly to penalize states who are in the wrong column, those same states who pay a ridiculously disproportionate percentage of taxes re who gives and who gets.

If it aint broke don't fix it.

Its broke.

I don't watch Fox National news ever nor do I watch CNN or MSNBC National News ever (all are shit shows IMO and too far to the right or left and the 24 hour news cycle has ruined things in a huge way). From time to time I will watch a segment of local Fox news which covers the same issues the others locals do (local news, weather, sports) or I'll watch one of the other locals too (NBC or CBS from time to time).

I try and vary my sources of news (BBC, WSJ for business news, Bleacher report and The Athletic for sports and I troll for interesting articles from various sources - I get a kick out of The NY Post headlines but am clearly aware of the NY Post slant). The Atlantic has some interesting stuff sometimes. I am not a fan of bitching about the news stations anymore. They are what they are - no news there. It won't change when very few folks all with agendas own all these stations and newspapers/sources. I've accepted it and moved on. I do believe that some news is just news though whether its an article on CNBC or Fox - they can't manage 100% of every story to slant it - it's not humanly possible.

I am a fan of letting the professionals talk on the subject of the corona virus and not ever listening to politicians about it. The politicians are all just looking for the face time in both parties and hello its an election year. Trump has clearly made himself look like an ass and has no advisors that will tell him to shut up unfortunately those have all left the White House. I hate listening to Cuomo's whiny voice but he has done a decent job trying to protect his state. None of this is big news worthy of my post or any others in this thread. Is what it is.

It’s a cult, Dick. You’re either with the cult or you’re against it. There is no gray area. Expertise, knowledge, and facts be damned.

A good friend is a former Fox News producer. He left in 2017, citing an aversion to obscene BS and propaganda. He called the hit of Fauci early last week. The man can only tap dance like Fred Astaire around Trump’s stupidity for so long.

I hope it doesn’t happen. Fauci represents the best and brightest this country has to offer. He is EXACTLY what this country needs. Unfortunately, expertise has no place in this White House. Bow to the whims of dear leader or else.

What happened to Lou Dobbs? Used to be a good journalist, now he's a propagandist.

FOX has been out of line for a while from what I've seen (I don't watch much cable news), but I do wish the same scrutiny would be applied to CNN and MSNBC, who also have their own agendas.

More silliness...."you're either with the cult or against it". If you are that caught in the good/evil of cable news, I feel sorry for you. If anyone gets twisted about how their side or the other side is portrayed on MSM cable, they are missing the big picture, which is actual news and facts. I don't need a panel of people or a talking head on Fox, CNN, or any others to tell me what I see and hear.

I try to listen to Fauci and Birx whenever I can, in fact, Fauci did an excellent job explaining how clinical trials work and how it can/is be shortened to speed a vaccine that is safe. He also explained how randomized trials work. Everything else, pre or post, I tuned out.

It's all quite repulsive. You could see the Fauci hit coming a mile away (face palm was probably the last straw).

Now if you'll excuse me, I need to get back to figuring out whether or not I have a headache.

Who says it isnt? What they say is on the record. If they are lying, someone should call them out.

While MSNBC is still not as bad as FOX, imo, the success of the FOX biz model has made both MSNBC and CNN more partisan. But, you heard them call out Obama regularly with stuff they didnt agree on.

Of course, MSNBC has an ex Gingrich disciple and an ex GWB aide as hosts now, and many other people who supported the pre Trump Repub party.

Cable news is trash. There’s too little of redeeming value to justify using it as a news source. It’s like soda. It’s not good for us, but people like the taste and/or drink it out of habit. You know it’s unhealthy, so why consume it? Turn that junk off and never go back.

As for Fox News, they are the most egregious of the trio of crap. We literally just watched them tell us coronavirus is no big deal in the face of science and evidence. They just willfully put their audience at risk for the sake of what exactly? That doesn’t condone or commend MSNBC and CNN anyway. It simply calls out the worst of the worst. That’s an uncomfortable truth for the right and right-leaners here.

The cult I speak of is that of Trump, not cable news. The article linked touches on the subject. It's near impossible for those in the Trump orbit to contradict him and survive. I'm hoping and praying Fauci can continue to do so, because he's the voice we need. Expertise, facts, clear messaging, and pitch-perfect delivery.

And that can go for any politician, who has their "cult" followers as you just defined them. So are you angry at people that look past the lies to support a politician, because you'd be angry at a lot of people. Any reasonable Christian does not think he is a hero of Christianity. Hell he isn't even a real Republican. He was a life long Democrat before he became a Repub which tells you all you need to know. He will change his spots to try and get what he wants. Nepotist all the way.

This Christian would never say he is a hero of Christianity. I think you are watching too much cable news who lumps everyone in two different buckets and believes everyone fits perfectly into one of those two buckets which is not true at all in my experience. I have friends who won't admit that anything he does is ever bad and I call them out on it all the time and they don't like it. Trumpers. I also have friends and family that voted for him because of the Supreme Court or they hated Hillary or both. That last sentence describes many people that I know who do not like Trump if that makes you feel any better. They voted for the lesser of two evils in their mind (cannot forget that fact and so many people seem to). I bet at least half of those folks won't vote for him again. It would be great if someday there was a candidate that I felt good about voting for. For me it has not happened in a very long time since Reagan.

I mostly read (prefer it), but if I watch it's PBS News Hour. Fact-based, fair, non-sensationalized. It can be a boring presentation, which they do on purpose. I'd argue it's okay to have a pulse, just don't sensationalize. The network evening news shows are decent too. They don't engage in many of the cable news tactics and are confined by time. I very rarely catch those these days though.

For reading: Christian Science Monitor and Axios daily. Frequent Sampling - USA Today, WSJ, NYT, WAPO, NPR online news, AP, Reuters, Bloomberg. That's for the what happened/what's happening straight news. I also check out and/or follow think tanks (Niskanen, Brookings, AIE, Peterson Institute, Bipartisan Policy, etc.), fact-checking sites, and a few sites like The Cook Political Report.

I have a group of friends I discuss politics and news with in various formats and through that will see/read content from The Atlantic, Reason, and others places across the spectrum I generally don't seek out on my own. The group works as an aggregator of sorts not just for written content, but video and audio as well.

I will receive/read opinion and/or analysis pieces through the means listed above. There's no harm in reading that stuff, just know what it is and what it is not.

That's how I do it. Works for me.

That can go for any politician to a certain extent. The cult of Trump is different than anything we've seen before and in a very destructive way. LOLing at your second sentence, because yes...yes I do. Among the group of friends I mentioned in my post above, my given nickname is EOH (equal opportunity hater).

Yup. Watch the Netflix series The Famly to really understand the Evangelical right and their love for Trump aka "The Wolf King".

I also have an Aunt/Uncle who were moderate Republicans before Trump. Who are Episcopalian who lived in Ohio for 3 years during the mid 1990s. They moved back to NJ because of "the insane and scary Evangelical right in rural Ohio". And that was in the mid 90s, imagine today.

Totally disagree. Calling Trump supporters a “cult” is just a way for you to justify your anger. I see a lot of Trump diehards where I work and they support him because they are disgusted with the DNC and RNC politicians and establishments (see 12% Congressional approval rating).

I can’t listen to Trump at all but I can understand why part of the electorate does. For years they see a long line of so-called political leaders from both sides droning in while they’ve gotten the royal FU.

You are pretty well read from your list of sources, so I’ll look forward to seeing your future opinions with articles linked to those sites.....Or you can keep referencing FOX and CNN.

The outsider theory makes sense 4 years ago. It doesn't make sense anymore. He didn't "shake up the establishment" as much as fire people who question him and promote people who will "bend the knee".

There is something else keeping his followers on board at this point, and it goes beyond that he doesn't sound like a politician.

Disagree as well. When you see how other political leaders are still behaving (Pelosi, Schumer, McConnell, etc.)...I believe his supporters hear the same nonsense and behavior that shows they are completely tone deaf to their needs.

The “cult” description is just silly. Lame attempt to keep equating him to Hitler.

To not understand that trump is the man for a huge portion of christianity is silly. Falwell, grahams son. These guys are the lovers and shakers. And the 10000 seat churches with the millionaire pastors, not the churches we know. I gave no clue who Tobin is. (I will look him up niw.) And imo, many devout Catholics are on the bandwagon too.

84, I dont think trump has a holocaust in his heart, but to not see parallels with Hitler is missing your history. Denigrating the media, creating your own media (tweets), creating your campaign around an "evil" part if the population. I dont think that was accidental. It worked. And the guys govt of his dreams sure aint democracy.

Just read a blurb or two on tobin. Name didntvring a bell. He sounds like so many priests I remember, and that is a deep compliment. And he warns of the left right schism in Catholicism doesnt he? And I bet those on the right arent thinking of goldwater's. Spoken from a thimbleful of knowledge. Wonder if I am right.

Tobin has taken a lot of criticism but is considered by the Pope (who many conservatives do not like) as one of the top Cardinals in the US. I was fortunate enough to spend 4 hours with him 1 on 1 - you would enjoy having a beer with this guy who is also a power lifter by the way. He is a very different kind of Cardinal who wants to open more doors than some conservative Catholics want but that many moderate Catholics are pushing for. He has opened his cathedral to gay Catholics and has taken great criticism for it but also received a lot of praise. He sees a bigger role for women and he is a staunch defender of the poor and immigrants going against Pence when he was in Indiana and other politicians. I know a lot of Catholics with those values and my parish is much more welcoming and liberal than some out there and this will continue (we do a ton of outreach for the poor). When you make blanket statements, it's not always indicative as to what is actually happening on the ground. I'm seeing very slow changes occurring but positive ones in my opinion. Many in our Parish did not and would never vote for Trump. And we are Catholics by the way. I'm not opining or arguing on the Falwells of the world as I don't know much about them. The religion clearly has many, many problems admittedly and has handled the clergy abuse scandal as badly as possible which is unforgivable. With that said there is positive change afoot IMO.

The “cult” and and Hitler references are pure BS....just a bunch of whining because people are still can’t believe or stomach that he was elected.

Trump knows nothing about being a dictator, quite frankly he knows very little about being a politician. He does know media and has used the polarizing MSM to his advantage.

The vast majority of people that are going to vote for him in the next election will do so because they are going to work each day, providing for their families and feel he is making us safer today than they did yesterday. None of this matters to me, because I’ll vote for leadership qualities first, but just giving you my observations of what I see in terms of working Americans that live modestly.

The “cult” and and Hitler references are pure BS....just a bunch of whining because people are still can’t believe or stomach that he was elected.

It's not that he was elected, it's that his supporters ignore everything since he was elected that makes it appear cultish.

Absolute nonsense, talk about a conspiracy theory. And I'm no Trump supporter.

An inconvenient truth for those still desperately grasping at straws in a pathetic attempt to justify a colossal mistake that was obvious to many. It's easier to just admit being wrong, no? Apparently not.

The “cult” description is just silly. Lame attempt to keep equating him to Hitler.

Lame attempt at a text book straw man argument. Nobody here is equating Trump to Hitler. No one.

The “cult” and and Hitler references are pure BS....just a bunch of whining because people are still can’t believe or stomach that he was elected.

Those Hitler references are pure BS alright. You brought them here when no one else did. Congrats on winning an argument no one was making. The cult references are valid. When an entire group of people ignores consistent horrid behavior, incompetence, corruption, and pathological lying while showing undying support...yep, that's cult-like. When an entire political party abandons several core principles and acquiesces to the whims of a leader, that is cult-like. Hence, cult.

Disagree as well. When you see how other political leaders are still behaving (Pelosi, Schumer, McConnell, etc.)...I believe his supporters hear the same nonsense and behavior that shows they are completely tone deaf to their needs.

I have no praise for the politicians listed, but to conflate them with Trump is laughable. The phrase 'mountain of evidence' is typically hyperbolic. In this case, it's a reality. Romantic anecdotal notions don't hold water.

What is he doing now that he didn’t do four years ago?

Not what I said, I said the stuff he gets away with as president...

Like when the president's response to a reporter asking what do you say to American's who are worried right now, and his response is "you are a terrible reporter" - He probably would have said the same thing during his campaign... but it should be inexcusable as president! His supporters do not care at all because they are all brainwashed and think the president was justified in that moment.

There are countless examples like that.

You can support someone to shake things up, that's fine... but hold them to some kind of standard that we expect of a president.

Highlight of this thread, FOX, MSNBC, and CNN are cosidered news by some. If the WWE is sports entertainment, then all of those channels are news entertainment. Watching any of those channels for news is like thinking WWE is real. What FOX has that the other channels don't have is the ability to watch most shows with the mute button on. CNN and MSNBC you can't watch with the sound on or off.
