Fricker's Huge Day has Pirates Close After 36 Holes at Princeton

PRINCETON, N.J. – Sophomore George Fricker (Woodbridge, England) is tied for second among 78 individual golfers and has the Seton Hall men's golf team in third place after 36 holes at the Princeton Invitational.

Fricker was brilliant on Saturday. He had six birdies and 10 pars in route to a 4-under-par, 67, in round one, and followed it up with nearly the same performance in the afternoon… five birdies and 10 pars for a 3-under-par, 68. Through two rounds, Fricker is 7-under-par with a 67-68-135. He trails the individual leader, Harvard's Brian Ma, by only two strokes entering Sunday's final round.

Fricker now has nine sub-par rounds this year. His 4-under first round was his best round of the year.

As a team, the Pirates are one of five schools currently under par for the tournament. The Hall shot an even-par, 284, in round one, and shaved four strokes off in the afternoon. Through 36 holes, Seton Hall is 4-under-par with a 284-280-564. It trails the team leader, Harvard by nine strokes entering round three. Host Princeton is in second place at 7-under-par. Georgetown, The Hall's lone BIG EAST competition is currently 14-over-par.

Junior Wanxi Sun (Danville, Calif.) had four birdies in round one and shot a 1-over-par, 72. In the afternoon, he shaved off three strokes for a 2-under-par, 69. Currently, Sun is tied for 18th place overall with a 1-under-par, 72-69-141.

Wenliang Xie (Zhaoqing, China) shot a 7-over-par, 78, thanks largely to one troublesome hole, in round one, but shaved off 10 strokes in round two. In the afternoon, the senior had four birdies and 13 pars in route to a 3-under-par, 68. For the tournament, he's 4-over-par with a 78-68-146.

Sophomore Joshua Lee (Lantana, Texas) had four birdies in round one for an even-par, 71. In round two, he was 6-over-par with a 77. For the tournament, Lee is 6-over-par with a 71-77-148.

Rounding out the Pirates' lineup, sophomore Angus O'Brien (Barwon Heads, Australia) is currently 7-over-par with a 74-75-149.

Competing as an individual, freshman David Lally (Wicklow, Ireland) is also having a stellar tournament. He had four birdies and 13 pars to fuel a 3-under-par, 68, in round one. In the afternoon, he slipped to a 4-over-par, 75. Currently, Lally's tied for 32nd with a 1-over-par, 68-75-143.

THE COURSE
Dating back to 1895, Springdale Golf Club is one of the oldest in New Jersey. Designed by Gerard Lambert and revised by William Flynn in 1926, the walkable course requires precision shot-making and has superior conditions and playability. The property, which was originally private farmland, was purchased by the Class of 1886 and gifted to Princeton University with the expectation of establishing one of the first courses in the region. The private club has a close relationship with the University, and counts many university professors, administrators and students among its members. With a fine and experienced PGA staff, the club hosts numerous tournaments, collegiate matches, clinics and golf outings every year.

THE FIELD
In addition to Seton Hall and host Princeton, the field features teams from Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Harvard, Howard, Penn, Rider, Saint Joseph's, Temple and Yale. BIG EAST opponent Georgetown is also in the field.

THE FORMAT
The teams will play five golfers and count the four lowest scores per round.

THE PAIRINGS / TEE TIMES
The field will play 36 continuous holes on Saturday and one final round on Sunday. Play begins with a tee times starting at 7:45 am on Saturday, and 8:15 a.m. on Sunday. The Hall will be paired with golfers from Temple and Penn off the first tee on Saturday.

Xie Excels in Round Three at Princeton Invitational​

Xie shot a 4-under-par, 67, in round three to help the Pirates finish fifth as a team.​

PRINCETON, N.J. – Senior Wenliang Xie (Zhaoqing, China) fired a 4-under-par, 67, in Sunday's final round to lift the Seton Hall men's golf team to a fifth-place finish at the Princeton Invitational.

Xie's round was one of the best all season for any Pirate as he was flawless for 18 holes. He had four birdies and 14 pars in route to his best round of the year. For the tournament, Xie shot 28 spots up the leader board on the final day to tie for 18th place with an even-par, 78-68-67-213.

As a team, The Hall rounded out the Princeton Invitational with a 4-over-par, 288, in round three. The Pirates placed fifth with an even-par, 284-280-288-852, for the tournament. Harvard won the team title at 15-under-par. Seton Hall's lone BIG EAST competition, Georgetown, finished at 12-over-par.

The top individual Seton Hall performer for the tournament was George Fricker (Woodbridge, England). The sophomore finished up an impressive three rounds with a 4-over-par, 75, in round three. For the event, he tied for 10th with a 3-under-par, 67-68-75-210. Harvard's Brian Ma won the individual title at 9-under-par.

Fricker's 3-under-par matches a career-low. It's his third career sub-par tournament and third top-10 finish.

Only one stroke behind Xie and Lally finished junior Wanxi Sun (Danville, Calif.). In round three, he had four birdies in route to a 2-over-par, 73. For the tournament, Sun tied for 25th with a 1-over-par, 72-69-73-214.

Sophomore Angus O'Brien (Barwon Heads, Australia) turned in his best round of the tournament on Sunday, a 2-over-par, 73. For the tournament, he was 9-over-par with a 74-75-73-222.

One stroke behind O'Brien was sophomore Joshua Lee (Lantana, Texas). Lee's third-round highlight was an eagle on the par-5, No. 12 hole, which fueled him to a 4-over-par, 75. For the event, he was 10-over-par with a 71-77-75-223.

Competing as an individual, freshman David Lally (Wicklow, Ireland) capped off his career-best tournament with an impressive 1-under-par, 70, in round three. He had three birdies and 13 pars in his final round. For the tournament, Lally tied for 18th with an even-par, 68-75-70-213.
