Future Recruting

Manuel would give that to us but I see him as more of a C now then PF.

Not a strong defender or rebounder yet.

I want a pf who gets a nice pass in the block and throws it down. We need so much finesse to get shots off inside.

The staff seems to miss the signs or knowing the " decisions makers" ...young staff and still learning. Am I upset that we will be taking a major step back next year ( on paper) due to poor recruiting?? HELL YES, but I understand why we missed on some players and how we got here. The staff has put together a solid nucleolus but we will not see what we have seen the past 3 years until we can get that stud Power player and more pieces.

I don't see it as bad closing as much as weak qualifying. Kids love us, we think, as jrs, but it decreases as decision time nears. I fear they never loved us as much as we think.

Lots of Games at Kean today....I hope at least one of our coaches is there!

I thinks it’s safe to take Manual off our 2018 recruiting target list. Seems like we spurned him somehow and is naming all teams but us from zags article.

Yes he and we have moved on....most likely we will be going after a normal or Grad transfer.

I have done a complete 180° on Quinerly. I say we go full court press after him. Rumors starting swirl he will be cleared. Solid core of Thompson Powell Cale as supporting cast.

Nova still on Quinerly as well...
Yes, but I think nova has to be more cautious than we do. Nova will be great with or without him. They have legitimate tourney expectations next year with their roster as is. I don’t believe we do.

If he goes to nova and is ruled ineligible after the fact (i.e. Derrick Rose) they will take down the banners they would’ve won with or without him.

The Hall, which will be in rebuilding mode, has limited risk. Either make the tourney with him and maybe have it vacated, or don’t take him and miss the tourney all together.

Name one successful person who is still working who isn't learning daily? They better be learning to get better every day.
I agree that people no matter how successful still learn and grow in their craft every day but, the problem with your statement is, the staff has not been all that successful.

With the exception of the NCAA tournaments where have they not been successful when it comes to attainable goals? They rebuilt the horrendous image we had when they took over. They won a big east title. Have the program on pace for it's 3rd straight NCAA tournament. 4 top 100 recruits in the last 4 years, 5 if you include Thompson transferring in. We have some talented freshmen in Cale, Walker, and Mamu who realistically need a year to get better. Just my opinion, each of them should easily make the same jump that Sanogo did from freshman to sophomore, which along with Powell and Nzei gives us a solid 5 guys returning, plus McKnight and add another top 100 player Thompson joining the team next year.

Vegas that is because we are out of it now...most likely will go after a transfer

You forgot that academically our players are graduating and our APR rating is in the Top 10 for all D1 mens basketball teams for the last three years. That is the definition of success if you ask me. http://www.app.com/story/sports/col...sketball-places-apr-top-10-percent/101242902/

Section I agree with you but lets be honest maybe 10% of the board deep down cares about this vs. Winning( big).

I love that players graduate and that the APR rating is high. That's very important and aligns much more with the actual purpose of a university than anything else related to athletics.

But if that's all we want to hang out hat on, then let's not bother competing in a major Division I conference. If basketball is going to be our marquee sport, then we need to be able to win games in its championship event, which is the NCAA Tournament. I know there are no guarantees, but this is a really important year to determine whether or not this program has plateaued under its current management, given that it appears poised to take at least a slight step backwards next year (though not as far as some might thing, in my opinion). Simply put, if we can't win a couple games this March, it probably isn't going to happen under this staff. And that's where my concerns sits. We're good. We've been good for the past two-and-a-half years. Good enough to reach the NCAA tournament, but long forgotten by the time it heats up. If that's the peak for this program, it's disappointing.

SHUSource, I honestly can't see how we don't take a big step back next year. Happy about TT and Powell and hopeful on Cale improving and Nzei staying but damn we lose our 3 best players and 4 starters. Big step back unless a player like Quinerly comes here, there will be little reason we come close to a top 25 team.. Hope I'm wrong.

I admit I’m taking a somewhat optimistic view of next year. Really, I see it as one that improves as the team matures and jells over the course of the season; there will be growing pains. And it all assumes (a leap of faith!) growth by Walker, Cale, and Mamu.

I was never a fan of Manuel's game but I don't understand why we would back off of him considering we aren't going after anyone better. There must be something off the court which caused us to back off.

Regardless, I don't think Manuel is making much of an impact wherever he goes. Nice bench/role player but I really don't see him as anything more.

The biggest thing I'm looking forward to is seeing how the style of play changes and adapts, especially on offense.

Next year's team isn't full of one on one playmakers like this one is. I'm hoping for a more aesthetically pleasing offense with discipline and movement in 2018-19. I like that we are bringing in longer and skilled players with athleticism like Cale, Sandro and Thompson. These are the easiest types of players to develop and mold to a style of play. They should blend in well with Powell and Nzei. Powell will be the focal point for opposing defenses next year, so getting Thompson going along with him will be important.

We will take a big step back next year and the biggest question mark will be who is going to be our PG?

I figured Nelson and Walker would duke it out, but who knows if Walker will be in the mix at this point.

On that note, I know it's taboo to ask questions about Seton Hall basketball players on a Seton Hall basketball message board, but can someone just say "yay" or "nay" on whether or not we can expect TT in a SHU uniform next season? I realize there are some off-court stuff he's dealing with, so at the risk of upsetting the uptight board members, can someone just enlighten us non-insiders with a simple yes or no?

No idea but I would say to everyone just enjoy the ride this season because after this who the heck knows!

I would just say to take note Saturday. If he isn’t on the bench then, we should begin to worry. The Creighton and St. John’s games supposedly had to deal with a family matter (which is why he transferred closer to home).

I think the offense will be different, so I'm glad I'm not the only one. I think your vision is also a little on the optimistic side, but one that can be realized if all falls into place. Again, as with this year, much of it will be defined by point-guard play. So to exceed expectations, either Walker has to fall into line or Nelson must become more of a PG than just a scoring guard. Maybe he can. I don't know anything about him I haven't read here.

Wouldn't it be a pleasant change if we finally had a true point guard ready to step in, run our offense without any issues such as is going to be here not year or not or he's more of a SG not a point and we have quality depth behind him .

Stop asking for miracles ! lol

I wish we were more active on the recruiting trails at some of these events like we have in the last few years to get a better grasp on who our actual targets are!

Please remove Quinerly from any list you have and any 5 star recruit ...both complete waste of time.

losing Angel, Desi, Khadeen and Ish in one year...never going to replace 4 like that in many years to come.

Would not be shocked if we get involved with Asante Gist as he announced he is transfering

http://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/player/_/id/4067164/asante-gist

That's a major red flag. I'm expecting quite a few guys to be able to handle the PG position over the next 2 seasons in Nelson, Walker, Gordon, and McKnight. Each of those guys if they want major minutes are going to need to play the point next to Powell because he's getting 30 minutes a game. I'd much rather hear we are getting involved with bigs or a guy who can replace Powell's 3 point shooting in 2 years.
