Game Thread: Pirates vs. Rutgers

Becoming painfully clear that Sha cannot coach offense at the power conference level. Either he brings someone in who can or his tenure will be a lot shorter than what we hoped for.

I know his St. Peter’s teams were also poor offensively but I distinctly remember during the elite eight run seeing breakdowns of some flex concepts they ran with success.

Why does he run absolutely nothing? 2-3 zone - zero cutting, overloading sides, pin downs to get guys looks. Man to man they basically run a PnR once in awhile.

The guy knows ball, I’m totally baffled. High school teams run more stuff than Seton Hall does.

I don’t think he’ll cede offensive control to someone else but I agree he definitely should.

Much of what Sha has done since taking over the program has been underwhelming. From the celebrity/publicity tour focused on himself only in the summer of '22, ill-advised public comments, sideline skirmishes with other coaches, poor recruiting, poor offensive coaching, to a supposed defense-based identity with teams that really aren't that good defensively.

His high point was the introductory press conference and that's....not a good thing. It's far too early to think about any changes, but he has to get his act together. I don't know that he can.

Don’t get why Bediako up until a few minutes ago had 5 shots. We can’t shoot from the outside, he has proven to be a pretty solid inside scorer, yet? Makes no sense, like a lot of Sha decisions

Not with this roster

He ran pays for Doug Edert. The offense here is Richmond trying to break down the defense. The other option is Dawes chucking 3s. There is nothing else.

Running plays for Edert opened up other players. Thats how it works, you run sets and when things work and defenses compensate it opens up other guys. Guys would cheat screens on Edert and they’d hit the screener wide open.

There is zero imagination and urgency offensively. You’d think they were up 30 with how lethargic they look offensively.

Team is not playing with any confidence. You see flashes but they can’t sustain it.

Sha has been outcoached quite a bit this year. We have no shooters that can hit shots consistently. Team is struggling on both sides of the ball and the same issues game after game. Tough to watch right now.

Sha opens up with “I don’t know” (again) when asked by Gary about thoughts on the game. Just said how great Rutgers was. “Outplayed, out coached, out hussled etc. “Yeah, we saw that. Said Dawes was a career 40% 3 point shooter (37% and dropping like a rock). “Back to the drawing board” - He needs to fire that board, it ain’t working .

Dawes 3-16 tonight, 3-15 from 3. Only one shot inside the arc. Nothing but a selfish chucker right now. Usually I see that in pickup games at LA Fitness, not in power six college basketball.

I think this is a crossroads moment for Sha. This is as bad as we have looked during his tenure. Either he swallows his pride and makes necessary adjustments (starting by benching Dawes) or he stubbornly continues down this road towards a wasted season and burns the remaining goodwill that he has.

We are in serious danger of being relegated to DePaul level while Rutgers, St. John’s, UConn take off. Very troubling time for seton hall basketball.

No scorer with an all around offensive game or any catch and shoot guy for sure. I posted that I don't like to make decisions about coaches too quickly, be it Willard, Bill Parcells, or Daboll. But to me Sha looks like a little Bill Belichick clone. He talks a good game and about how you have to play for him and the things players need to do to play for him and I am not seeing it. The team has been in these games for the most part, but I don't see how you can get any wins over solid or quality teams the way he is coaching and how the team plays.

It is odd for a career good 3 pt shooter to have a bad shooting season. It has not happened here since 2022-3 season.
