Get that short list ready, Pat Lyons

Based on our willingness to pay and eat KW contract. The list will be short and starts with Sha!

If that's the case then should have just made the move to Sha for this season. Bottom line is the men's program is financially held hostage w/Willard's contract. Complete embarrasment.

To be honest, I'd rather see them tell Willard to go home the rest of the year and let Sha run the team. At least if we're bad it's with a coach that I can get behind.
Amen to that. At least Sha is likable and easy to get behind. This should have been done last Spring. Instead, we have to endure five months of torture.

These guys are DOA. I won't get fooled again. This team, if it's going to play defense like that all year, has the look of a 5-win Big East team.
what is a realistic short list here?

power 5 plus aac, big east and a-10 lead assistants? mid major young head coaches on the rise? local people with connections? i just know this, the next head coach can not be from the maac

One of the pluses of making the call early to replace any coach is you get an early jump on getting involved with the targets on your short list and if you hire him quickly you can get to work on convincing the players on your roster to stay as well as putting your staff together.

And Dino Gaudio actually said twice tonight that we are a Big East championship contender. Has he no shame?

We have the worst coach in the Big East. How bad could the short list be? How much worse of a coach can you have? Anything is upside at this point.

Whoever was on Lyons hockey team in college and/or in his foursome on the golf course is my bet.

I wouldn't mind seeing a hockey mind taking over. Instead of subbing a player or two we can just do line changes.

Dino's comments were ridiculous about our BE prospects. It is like he didn't even do any homework on the league or us. Danny Hurley just lost at home to Valpro.

Lonergan it might be a step back for him. Any other A10 or Cooley types out there? But are we really going to go to the MAAC again for a coach if there is a Cooley out there?

uri 2nd best kid gone for season; i don't think danny wants to come here or rutgers, just a feeling i have

I saw the news on E.C. Matthews out for the year. Tough break for URI. There has to be a Cooley type out there that would really want the job especially the conference and has a plan and the skillset to apply it here. This is ridiculous with this coach.

Sha with an older strong bench would be better than this. Even Lavin used Keady. I mean we are 5 years into this guy. And you could see that this tournament was not the Paradise Jam where the field was almost a joke last year. LBS tried to give the game away late, too.

I am pretty ignorant on coaches, but the guy at NJIT excites me more than the names I read.

I second that motion for Lonergan.
He has been very creative in building a talented base of players, and using them well.
He might consider our league and our beloved Hall program a step back. Maybe even two steps back.
We need an AD to sell Lonergan or a similar prospect who is currently a head coach in a real league.

Was thinking the same thing after watching GW upset UVA earlier this week. He has a better gig where he is...

My short list would be Kellog from Umass whose team just beat Harvard. Andy O'Toole from Robert Morris. Those are my top two contenders.

I don't know much about Lonergan but he has done well at GW. I also think you have to look at Jim Engles at NJIT. He has done a masterful job building a program from scratch and has made it competitive in a short time.

With this coaching hire, Seton Hall cannot take a big risk of hiring someone like Sha who I would stay away from.

When are we going to learn its just bad business to be calling for a coach to be fired 3 games in. Let the season unfold. Don't give a recruit to say the fans are doing everything possible to get rid of their current coach. What good could come from this? 90% of the tough guys that weren't going to renew their tickets still renewed. The issues we saw last night on the court existed in both of our wins. They are going to be there as long as it takes to be corrected. Let's see what happens. Everyone remembers feeling screwed of getting left out of the 2003 NCAA tournament but to see what we did early on that year before we were able to get it together win 9 in a row including 2 top 10 wins.

what does 02-03 have to do with now?

the issue with 02-03 is that they lost to the following teams on saturdays in nov and dec - texas, ohio state, depaul, louisville and then lost to manhattan in January

also lost reg season finale at providence in OT, won at georgetown scoring with 6 men on court and then having gtown score against 6 men on court to force ot

ohio state and DePaul were barely over .500 that season and below .500 in conference and we also lost to Manhattan. The point is it took for midway through Barrett's junior year for things to get rolling, but once they get rolling people forget about early season struggles. You gotta give the team a chance to improve. And if they don't they don't and the writings on the wall. But a short list 3 games in is a sign of ignorance

Yes, so many of us said "why" when we hired him. No reason to predict success, no personality, and after these years, no reason for confidence. Feel bad for the pkayers

i'd like to think that ignorance is on the shu admin, board etc, this is turning into what norm roberts did at st. john's

It is. But not five seasons and three games in. How many times do you need to need to read the same script to know how the story ends? I've been very quiet around here because no one likes to read negative nancies, but this was the first season in ... I can't say how long ... that I had them written off before the opening tip. I tend to skew positive, and I seem to always overestimate our ceiling before the season starts, but this was a no-brainer. This season was never headed anywhere.

I know there is an entire season left to play, but I've seen this show before. We're not good. I don't like it, but I'm not going to pretend it's otherwise.

I will confess to not being one of the ones who said why when we hired Willard. I actually did believe he was a guy on the way up. And I was a supporter for a year and a half. I wanted to believe in the guy. But gradually it became clear to me that he is not up to the job. He should have been fired already. I still root for the team as much as always, despite the coach. I want to believe we can have a good season. We have talent. But I keep seeing some of the same problems over and over... even after only three games. I suspect there are many others who feel the same. Sad. Let's hope the kids can turn it around.

I get the fact that there's not much positive going on. You can read my posts after the 2 wins, I was very concerned about lack of fundamentals, boxing out, and giving up 17 offensive rebounds to Wagner. My hope for this season is not much. However I'll be the 1st to admit when we lost to a bad Ohio St team and a bad Depaul team in December 2002, I wasn't excited about the rest of the season. However this group is talented, they just don't play as a team. Defensively we don't have 5 guys playing as 1 unit which allows for breakdowns more often. Offensively we need to share the ball. Are these things correctable by December 30th's 1st big east game? Yes. I think we have the talent to win, but not enough talent to win on talent alone.

Iowa 89 Marquette 61 20 secs left at Marquette. Fire Wojo now!!

Hi FLNJ, glad to see you're better now. I'm concerned that you are getting negative so early on Wojo though. He's really only just got started at Marquette and needs full fan support at this time. Now - I could see your point and consider joining you in your strong sentiments if this was year six of his tenure.

Best regards, and thank you for helping me see things in perspective,

Your buddy.

NY Shore, that is a very good comparison with Norm Roberts. Roberts was hired in part for his integrity and I remember hearing how the Msgr. at SJU wanted no part of Bobby Gonzales with his antics.

I usually pride myself on being level headed and trying not to make rash decisions. However, watching last night its obvious everyone (including Willard) knows it is over.

What is upsetting is that SHU basketball is one of the only teams pro or college I follow and this season is already worthless to follow (3 games in). The fact that this was allowed to happen is NOT right.

I have no knowledge of basketball or coaches. However, I want anyone who is considered a tactician or X's and O's and we can figure out the recruiting. I watch all these teams the past 10 years with inferior athletic talent but who are coached into a system and beat us.

I know there is sometimes a ceiling with coaches like this but I am willing to gamble and start there.

The body language after the game was very telling...it wasnt anger or upset, more like apathy
