I don't have a name, but I'd look at successful programs that are similarly situated and try to mimic what they did for that role.

Perhaps I'll be in the minority for thinking so, but any resources we have should be used towards the players, period. I don't think we have enough to justify using them for another administrative position. Not to say Sha is overpaid, but he isn't cheap. We also have McBride on payroll. Way too administration heavy proportionate to player's compensation if we go that route, imo.

Pookie is my name, he is a successful Hollywood agent. Could help with publicity, marketing, and knows how to work contracts, He would be a home run 🤣

I don’t know if it’s a GM or whatever but I do think it would be helpful to have some one on staff who could do advanced scouting, do they want to come here, how much it will cost to get them here, etc. The whole process moves fast and furious so any head start can’t be a bad thing.

Maybe someone like Levell Sanders. Has some local ties, coached in Europe and obviously now at Binghamton.

It’s too late to bring someone in for this season. Whether we like it or not, reaching out to players and their handlers is happening during the season. With 2000+ players about to enter the transfer portal its important to know who, their willingness to come to SHU, and their price before the portal opens. Those that play by the rules are getting left behind. To be effective they really need someone in a non official role that operates in this space.

Perhaps the staff is aware of this.

Been through this a million times this year and it doesn’t feel like a Sha or SHU thing to do. It’s too business sensible, too much delegating of power. 🙃

I’m hoping adding the additional assistant coach helped better balance duties bc not only do you need negotiation and relationship building with agents/handlers, but you need to budget (and link to fundraising) and have the coordinated effort to scout and evaluate hundreds of teams/players. Oh and retain your own and head off the tampering.

I agree we should direct all resources towards players, but even if someone on staff like McBride takes on that role, it would benefit Sha and the program by having someone other than the coach take on the responsibility of negotiating numbers with players and their agents. Sha has enough knowledge his plate.

That’s called assistant coaches. If they can’t identify players, reach out, assess fit both style and money, then what are they doing? They sure aren’t coaching.

Save the Whalen is the x and o guy because if true, he not only should be fired, he should be coaching high school.

That is not a job for McBride.

There has to be one person who has the responsibility of determining how much money is available to the men’s basketball team for players salaries and it should not be Sha. Whether you think that person is your current AD or a new position you have to get the responsibility for raising the money , allocating the money and deciding what each player gets right or you’re only going to make it worst.

Surprised no one has floated HallDan's name as the GM. He has the cred, contacts and connections for the position. Chance to make some money after all his "in-kind" work here. Let's start some groundswell of support.

Pass. Hiring a "GM" is just fake effort. Until we get to the point of salary caps, trades and long term contracts, there's not enough to make that role anything more than a glorified "NIL Budget Manager" which is in no way a full time job.

Unless of course this GM would fully take over recruiting duties from Sha and staff, but that feels risky to me.

That's not what a GM does other than your last point, that IS McBride's job.

We are all captives to our experience, and having spent most of my career in strategic planning I believe the following” When an organization is floundering doing more of the same never works. It is critical to develop real strategies that evaluate every critical role of the organization. You must begin with the key competitive advantages of the organization. What are we doing that is effective? What are the competitive disadvantages and our greatest flaws? Do we have a real strategy based on our competitive advantages? Are we structured to reinforce the strategies? Do we have the right people in key positions and are they clear about what they have to deliver? Do we have the right systems in place and have the systems been properly funded? Have we identified key persons outside the organization who can assist in marketing and supporting our strategies and goals? Have we structured a plan that is challenged by all the stakeholders?

This program needs to learn how to market the players and the program 24/7 to the fans, sponsors, students and anyone that will listen and grow NIL any way they can. They continue to have a horrible marketing approach for the school and program.

Hiring a GM would just take resources away from a cash strapped program and frankly Sha wouldn't let it happen. It would be a bad hire unless Sha was all in on it and it was someone he respected. Good luck finding that person.

It's a non-starter at SHU. The assistants, Sha and Felt need to run the program. That's how its gonna be no matter how many times people post this idea. Hoping they learned a lot from this year's disaster, have the funds and make a major upgrade. We still have to sell good players on the idea of coming here and after this year it's not gonna be easy.

As said above ” When an organization is floundering doing more of the same never works". At this point WGAF what Felt, Sha or his assistants think. They've made it perfectly clear in this total embarrassment of a year that they need executive management help, quickly.

That's pretty dumb if that's the case. It takes a phone call and recommendation of a few names to speak with.
No not on the radar the other way

No one you described would take that job as a “resume” builder

Maybe an intern for the nba? I don’t know but no way anyone in any organization would see that as a positive or upward career move
