SANTEE, CALIF. – Three Pirates shot a 2-over-par, 74, in the third and final round as the Seton Hall men’s golf team cruised to a 22-stroke victory at the 2016 Carlton Oaks WIU Invitational on Tuesday.
The team victory is the first for Seton Hall since claiming the Navy Fall Classic in September of 2014.
Seton Hall was paced by the standout play of junior Lloyd Jefferson Go (Guadalupe Cebu City, Philippines), who placed second among all individual golfers, and freshman Gen Nagai (Mandaue Cebu City, Philippines), who tied for third.
Go shot an even-par, 72-70-74-216, the fourth time in five tournaments this year that he’s finished at par or better for an event. Nagai led the individual field after two rounds at 4-under-par, but shot a 6-over-par, 78, in round three to settle for 2-over-par with a 69-71-78-218 for the tournament. Nagai’s first two rounds represent the two lowest for his young career.
Collectively, The Hall had its least impressive round of the tournament on Tuesday, but still out performed the rest of the field. The Pirates finished with a 15-over-par, 286-296-297-879, while extending its final margin of victory to 22 strokes over second place Cal State – San Marcos. Fellow BIG EAST competitor finished a distant 51 strokes behind The Hall.
The Pirates’ 286 in round one is the lowest par-72, single-round score since shooting a 284 in the second round of the Fireline Towson Invitational on March 31, 2012.
Freshman Chris Yeom (Flushing, N.Y.) registered the first top-10 finish of his collegiate career, tying for ninth with a very solid 10-over-par, 75-77-74-226.
Senior Ryan Snouffer (Sparta, N.J.) bounced back after a tough second round to shoot a 2-over-par, 74, in round three. The lineup regular finished the three-round event at 12-over-par with a 70-84-74-228. Tied with Snouffer, David Cha (Carrollton, Texas) finished with a consistent 12-over-par, 75-78-75-228.
Competing as an individual, junior Kevin O’Brien (Wexford, Pa.) finished tied for 16th with a 13-over-par, 73-77-79-229.
