I think just as important is that the Democrats in the years after that stopped being the party of segregation .Thus allowed civil rights legislation and practices to emerge. It is somewhat ironic that Biden referred to being on the side of Wallace and Bull Connor if you opposed the voting rules change legislation since they were both democrats.

That part of history is being rewritten. Coming to all history books in a school near you.

It’s irrelevant the party. It’s about the position itself.

sure it's relevant... it's part of the history of it all.
The real history is that the Dixiecrats separated from the democratic party over Civil Rights. Southern Democrats like Strom Thurmand switched to being a Republican and this started the transition from the South being the Solid South for Democrats to the solid south Republican.

The legacy of the Dixiecrats are now with the Republican Party.

Calling BS on that. There are plenty of things to call out the Republican party on..... being the legacy of the racist past of this country is NOT one of them. Right now the party of racial fear mongering and the stokers of racial flames is the democrat party.

Let's not forget the current history of the filibuster as well:

- Dem Reid removed the filibuster for approving federal judges except for Supreme Court justices

- Repub McConnell then removed the filibuster from approving Supreme Court judges.

- Then there's this rank hypocrisy:

Can you imagine the Supreme Court now with the filibuster? We'd have 5 judges as neither side will support a nomination by the other side.

Was senator Fulbright ( of Fullbright scholarship fame ) a Dixiecrat ? No he was consistent in opposing civil rights legislation and one of 19 democrats signing the Southern Manifesto which opposed the brown ruling and opposed integration in public places.Dems desperate to escape their segregation past by rewriting their history is a relevant topic for discussion.

You can not go with the history of our political partys in determining what they stand for now. The party change from generation to generation in this regard. Hell the Republican party was the Party of Lincoln while the Democrats post civil war was the party of segregation. Lets look back one century, two political opponents in Teddy Roosevelt & Woodrow Wilson. TR (Rep) was the trust buster & equalitarian while Wilson (Dem) was a segregationist & KKK supporter. What party would they be in today? This all changed with Harry Truman who promoted civil rights which is what led the Dixiecrats to walk out of the Dem Convention and run their own candidate. Go back to the pre Truman days the South was solidly Democrat whereas New England was rock ribbed conservative Republican. What changed? Only the labels. The South remains against civil rights while New England remains supportive equal rights legislation.
