Great Choice by Mitt

I agree with Tom and Merge on governing from the center more. That is why I dislike Obama because he was the most liberal senator in the party. He has ridiculously strong liberal tendencies and he is in way over his head and has done nothing to get the parties to work together. His VP Joe Biden does nothing for me either. But nothing controversial about Obama gets discussed by the mainstream media. Instead our culture and media care more about pop culture than the stuff that affects them every day. I still think Romney should be campaigning more to the middle because that was his history and was how he governed Mass. He was more of a centrist in a heavy Democratic state. He should also be telling the story about his healthcare experiences in Mass and saying stuff like we made some good decisions and some mistakes but that he has the experience to deal with improving the health care situation going forward. But what do I know?

As far as the Repub VP choice, it is as good as any. At least Ryan is a guy that is focused on discussing the issues and he is a budget focused guy. Unfortunately that will not sell votes in this country but the fact that he is good looking and in shape just might (stupid I know). But the Dems want to make an issue about everything else except for jobs and the economy because in 4 years they have made very little progress. At least with the addition of Ryan people are starting to talk about the issues again albeit with bad data from left and right leaning so called "independent" organizations.

I thought the Biden quote about chains was in very bad taste and clearly the Dems are playing the race card. But again that is just fodder to move the conversation away from the countries real issues which is probably what the rest of the campaign will consist of, which is insulting.

The funniest thing about this thread is that Donnie and Merge are both "independents".

Great post!!!

* I agree with you about what Romney should be doing. Talk about the good and bad, but also focus on healthcare initiatives should be state driven rather than federally mandated.

* The thing I like about Ryan is that he's knowledgable about the budget, a smart, young guy that also understands that you need to articulate a vision for the country (which Obama and Romney have failed miserably doing).

* Biden on the other hand is an idiot and the chains comment was awful, but a Democrat can play the race card without any blowback from the media.

* LMAO on Merge and Donnie being independents!!!

Oh, come on, both of you!

I'm anti drilling, pro-environment, pro-gun control, anti-death penalty. That is what separates me from being a Republican.
I'd be curious to know what issues separate Merge from being a Democrat.

I'll play. Honestly, I can't label myself as a democrat because of how partisan the country has become. I can't stand when the democrats push a bill just to make republicans vote against it to gain political points such as the minimum wage increase. On the other side, we have republicans voting 33 times to repeal a bill they have no chance in repealing. I don't know why anyone would label themselves as belonging to one of those two groups... but I will give you some issues where differ from democrats.

I am generally pro gun rights (with more liberal ownership requirements), anti union, pro-voter ID cards, lower corporate tax rates... I am sure there are several others as well.

The thing that bothers me is that, while I admit my liberal bias, it seems the the democrats are a lot closer to the center than the republicans. Take the healthcare bill. It was basically a republican bill and the mandate was looked at as a personal responsibility initiative when it passed in Massachusetts or proposed by Bob Dole. Now it is way to far left and socialistic?
