actually interesting question. has it always been this miserable during election years?
i dont remember obama years being quite like this. i dont have anything further to go off of
It’s gotten worse for a number of reasons. Social media and the MSM and the polarization it’s spawned. Add the isolation and anger from the pandemic and two octogenarians that over 75% of the country did not want. Finally, the money that Citizens United enabled to pour gas on the fire. This presidential election cycle has been going on forever and people are exhausted.
There’s still 100 days, but as it stands now, Harris is going to win. The majority of the electorate is fed up with the two old guys. The Dems finally threw Biden overboard because there was no path to win with his dementia. Now you have only one old guy left. I’m not sure the swing voters even care about the policies that much anymore.
This feels like Obama 2.0. People just wanted a change (from Bush) and the only things Harris has going for her is that she’s not Trump and is 20 years younger. That will be enough unless there is another surprise who I expect
We survived the empty suit Obama years.
We survived the chaotic Trump term.
And we survived a term of Biden, who was essentially a walking corpse for most of it. And we will survive a Trump or Harris term, both of which have no qualifications to serve.
As I look back over every President that we have had in my 55+ adult life, none of them really has had an impact on my personal or professional life, earnings, accomplishments, comfort, etc.
Whether Harris or Trump gets elected, there will be no material change to gun legislation or border security. Nothing will happen to the Surpeme Court. Heck, Trump had the best plan of any recent President on the border and was only able to get a few dozen miles of wall because of an orchestrated dysfunctional Congress.
My life and choices have been more affected by state and local politics. Is it safe, quality of life, convenience, engaged community, etc.? President’s don’t impact that. They can effect foreign policy, but not much else as executive orders typically are just grandstanding.
Bad policies may create problems over time though.
Back to your original statement, the true test will be what happens after the election. I know various folks in law enforcement that are preparing for riots, no matter who wins.
