This team and staff deserve criticism but stating that the season is done already and piling on the negativity aren’t marks of a true Pirates fan. I have been a Pirate fan through thin and thin and whatever their performance on the court, they are my team and won’t be abandoned because of a few bumps in the road. This team can’t shoot foul shots or threes but so far have shown no quit. I wish that some of our wobbly kneed fans had the same attribute. Go Pirates!

I agree you can criticize the team, coaching etc. but some of this arm chair coaching is out of hand .
Yeah, I am with you. But its always been this way and it isnt gonna change. I am sure we all read posts and wonder what game was that guy watching, or what was he drinking while he was watching it. And I bet some think that about me.

My main point though is that some fans are just naturally negative. But they can still be as rabid as the positroids (like me). I don't understand how you could have watched us last night and NOT be optimistic about the season. We played one of the better teams away and played them to the wire, had a real chance to win.

Lots to wish we did better, we shot poorly again. And we still took them to the wire. We came back from 7 down or so about 4-5 times in a real tough arena. And we didn't shoot our way back, we fought and clawed our way back.

Lots to be encouraged about last night.

1 game over .500. Season is over

The season is not over. No way, but you keep losing games and it puts you in a hole that you can't
climb out of. Some of those negative fans will probably watch every game and die a slow death with every turnover
and missed free throw. There are excellent fans that are positive about everything and some that are critical but just as loyal.

The big picture is that this could take time and will be challenging. Many of us thought our program had grown to point that we could reload instead of a rebuilding situation. The goal every season has to be earning a bid to the NCAAs. So, we may fall short and that OK, but falling way short would be quite disappointing.

I had no illusions that Sha would take the team to the Final Four this year. He has had no real time to put in place his own players. He has been limited by the school's slow response to paying players and has had no real inside presence offensively..He has them playing hard and certainly I hope they improve but clearly Sha is my guy and I believe that in the long run we will be thrilled to have him at the helm.

Last couple of losses have been frustrating as hell but we’re a couple of unforced errors away from winning these games. It’s not like we’re getting flat out run off the court. These are things that our guys can control, that’s why I remain optimistic Sha and the boys can turn this around.

The negtive stuff can drive me nuts too. But lots of the real negative fans are real fans, real serious, fanatic SHU fans. I bet there are tons of them at every game. They can say what they want too.
I agree. As long as there aren't any personal attacks on players or staff and nothing said crosses a line of decency...it's fair game. Negativity like that is bred from passion. Fairweather fans don't offer that kind of raw emotion - it comes from the diehards. A Fairweather fan will simply stop caring and move on.

Not to get too deep into it, but for some (perhaps many) their sports teams is an escape and a release to whatever they may have going on in their life. We have no idea what they are going through and, as a result, how much of an impact "their" team's performance has on their happiness.

I've been a long suffering Buffalo Bills fan and Seton Hall Pirates fan my entire life. It's much easier to be numb to it when the teams have flat out stunk for years on end. But ask me how hard it was to watch the Chiefs rip my sports dreams from me two years in a row now that the Bills are good. Ask me how easy it is to fall into despair when the Bills lose a game anymore, knowing what the stakes are. I'm happy, I live a good life, I'm a measured person....and the losses still eat at me and lend to some irrational feelings in the moment. Some folks live and die by this stuff, for better or worse, so every loss is an absolute gut shot. They should certainly react better in a public forum, but I get it.

Rolling up here to thump chests for being a "real fan" contrary to these "fairweather" ones does no one any good. We all know what we're seeing right now. Everyone has a different opinion on how it can get better, but talking those through is part of the message board experience, no? Criticism and support are not mutually exclusive. Just because one offersthe former does not mean they fail to offer the latter.

I say to everyone - take a step back and offer a little understanding to our fellow fans that are not in a good place with our team right now. And for those that fall into the camp of the latter, take a deep breath - we know we have a coach that wants to be here and bleeds Pirate Blue as much as any of us. Give him time.

Our weaknesses, perimeter shooting and foul shooting, are not indicative of what our players are capable of. Dawes and Harris, shooting at their lifetime averages from the perimeter, would have won the last two games. The chemistry is clearly improving and we will be much better when our shooters get back on track.

Who would have predicted that we beat RU at the RAC and we push Xavier to the limit on their home court?

GO PIRATES!!!

The question is do they think before they speak. The team is fighting. We have a coach in his first year here. We don’t have a point guard or a center, We’re light years behind when it comes to buying players. You need players to win. No team wins or loses strictly on coaching. Tom izzo doesn’t take 5 random guys from a pickup game at MSU and make the tournament because he’s a great coach. He gets really good players. Until we match our competition in alum giving, facilities, NIL, we’re rooting for a program so far behind it’s extremely difficult to get to W’s. Unless something changes it’s only going to get worse. Bitch about all the things we’re behind in, not the guys in uniform playing hard. Players and coaches will come and go and as long as we’re behind in those areas Seton Hall will be as difficult of a place for a coach to succeed at in the big east.

No season is over in December. That's a ridiculous statement.

Every game is important to the individual season and to the growth of the players coming back and the evolution of the program.

True and knowledgeable fans understand that. Frontrunners obviously don't.

We might be discouraged with the results to date. But that doesn't mean you don't support the players and understand that it takes time for Shaheen Holloway to put his stamp on the program, made much more difficult with the money grab disguised with the letters NIL.

Season is not over, but has already seen a few disappointing games… I can be very negative in the moment, but I’ll keep supporting the team as I do every year. Maybe in the future us groaners can fill out a section or two at the Rock and you’ll know how to avoid us. 😆

Much of what appears here, esp. within hours of a loss, reflects emotion. I had thought the euphoria following the hiring of Shaheen was a bit over-the-top, but for a poster to write after the Providence game that Holloway was "out classed" by Cooley was just dumb. What does that even mean? Many of our more emotional posters should self-impose a 24 hour rule after games.

Growing up I saw some very sub par SHU teams, mid 90's but it didnt matter to me. I was a kid and I loved it. Regardless of what happens win/loss wise with the team I am not going anywhere. Plus I am relatively new to this board and its fun so there is that.

The team isn't shooting well in any aspect of offense from the 3 or free throw and we can't rebound. Bad formula that will not equal good basketball. It's not over but I mean we need something soon....

Yes. Posters on a niche message board with a small community that most season ticket holder don't know about are "fair weather fans".

Don't think you know what that term actually means in practice. Lol 🤣

The season isn't "over," but I think you must have blinders on if you don't see where this is headed as far as having a good idea of the final result. This isn't a NCAA Tournament team. A successful season would be showing incremental improvement, a system and culture being established, and possibly a bid to the NIT. The good news is I've seen some of that so far.

I think this team has shown a lot of improvement over where they were 3-4 weeks ago against Siena and KU. The progress is there, now the next step is pulling out a few wins in these hard fought conference games.

Many of us are like me and probably you too...we dont have a choice - the Pirates are too deep in our system to allow or make them escape. The early BE, OMG. 89 was a RIDICULOUS pipedream that I never once dreamed. Not sucking may have been more than I was hoping for, like when I bought a second paper after readig we beat GU in the 87 season (I think) to make sure it was not a typo... Then PJ leaves, the bottom falls out so quickly, then the shortlived Amaker miracle, and so on. Glad no one offered to bet me that Willard would have such a run when he was hired, cause I sure didnt see it coming.

The new rules may finally be our waterloo, but the rollercoaser ride is so much fun, cause we have seen some serious highs and always can hope for more.

SHU hoops, 24/7, like when I paid to dial to the net from a hotel in Ireland one summer to check on our recruiting...cant make it up...

And this board is a wonderful haven for those others like us.

Good and positive review by Seton 75, though I would not call the Amaker era a "miracle" even if just the year when we won a second game in the NCAA tournament.

Here’s my quick take as a long-standing and loyal Pirates fan. There are a number of posters that can be overly negative and even inappropriate at times with their criticism. On the other hand there’s some sunshine and rainbows posters who don’t want to hear any criticism.

Fairly early in the year but I do not have a lot of faith in this current team. KR can have some brilliant games, then fall off and play poorly all too often. Love KC’s heart and effort but he’s an Nzei type who’s a valuable addition to a squad but can’t carry a team. Davis brothers have been solid. Our shooting guards have been very poor. I’ll resist getting too harsh but extremely frustrating seeing missed open 3 after missed open 3s in crucial spots. Sorry but they’re just not that good. For the first time in many years just don’t have a feel for this group of guys. Not much personality to cling to … outside of KC and of course Sha.

Sad thing is that we got Sha at such a tough time in the middle of NIL hell that the school was totally unprepared for… and even if they were would be challenged with the financial resources. This class isn’t great but I’m worried in this NIL driven world who we can get to restock. Reality is this is a really tough time for SHU basketball. Not overly negative but realistic.

You posted this on a Big East college basketball team's message board. How many fair weather fans do you think this message is actually reaching?

Good summary...at the end of the day, the overly negative or overly positive poster is only hurting themselves, because most of the other posters just won't take them seriously on anything they post.

You're never as good as when things are great and never as bad when things are a struggle. Just look at the other occupant of the Pru (Devils).

That recruiting class followed by the sweet 16. Knocking out that terrific temple after sha got hurt. Multiple mcd aas on oyr scope...preseason #1 ranking by one mag, if not a miracle it sure aint our norm. And TAs first 2 yrs, getting nit bids, were a terrific job as well.

I definitely agree that Amaker brought a different vibe. The implosion during his last year was a huge catastrophe. Three one-and-dones in the NIT were not impressive.

I wonder how many Tommy Amaker backers from Duke had a vested interest in Tommy succeeding to eventually replace coach K and helped TA get players when he was here.

Simply making the NIT in his frst yr was actually an amazing job. And only making the NIT his last yr was the biggest dissapointment excepting Western KY in 93...Blowing that Illinois game in the OOC in hs last yr was such a disappointment, then it all came apart. I was at a wedding in NYC that day, as I walked into the church I saw two SHU grads and whispeered in their ear we were kicking Illinois' ass. Then as we talked outside the church, I found out we lost.
