So we should have kids test just to test so the numbers look better?

Not sure why there is hostility to testing. It's the best way to contain spread, assuming behaviors are a constant.
It is very expensive to do, however, so I'm not shocked to read this.
More tests (especially among people at extremely low risk such as college students) just pushes the case counts up and keeps the political and media hysteria going. Raw "case" counts don't matter. Hospitalizations and capacity to treat those who become seriously ill is the only thing that matters.
No. More data, especially about a novel coronavirus, is never a bad thing, even in and of itself. But the fact that daily testing is proven effective to contain spread has its own value.More tests (especially among people at extremely low risk such as college students) just pushes the case counts up and keeps the political and media hysteria going. As others have said, testing just to test really proves nothing. Maybe those other schools kids got tested more as there were outbreaks (ND & Prov, not sure if any issues at Nova), which you would think would drive more kids to be tested.
NJ new cases have been pretty stable now for months. Not sure about others, but I haven't heard from anyone I know in NJ that they have gone for a test without symptoms unless required like a teacher or doctor.

Makes sense. I feel this would be similar to if every person that had the flu, went and reported having the flu to the CDC. Whatever our annual numbers are for the flu, could you imagine what it would be if every person that just sucked it up at home went and reported having it? It would seem like a second pandemic occurred.

A lot of people are getting tested prior to traveling or if visiting vulnerable family members.
I did the saliva test before going to ME in mid august, kit cost $150 a pop. bit pricey, but confirmed I was good to travel. been tested 3x. Im not staying stuck at home, but being safe!A lot of people are getting teste

Obviously if you came in contact with someone who had it, should definitely get tested. If you are having covid symptoms, you should get tested.Getting tested before visiting anyone where you will be indoors for an extended period of time, ESPECIALLY someone who is more vulnerable, is the reasonable and common sense thing to do. For students and all people, getting tested if you know you may have been exposed, is the reasonable and common sense thing to do, so as to not unknowingly or asymptomatically transmit the virus to other people. This is how you slow the spread of a deadly disease. Reasonable and common sense, of course, is in short supply these days. “Only I matter and no one is going to infringe upon my right to potentially kill other people.” Our country has gone to hell in so many ways it’s just sad.
As an aside, I have to ask the repugnant, indignant know-it-alls on this board, just how much they know about how this disease will affect the heart and lungs of people who contract it, long term over the course of their lives, whether they had a serious case or an asymptomatic one. Because I don’t think the science even knows that extent at this point, and I’m sure there are few scientists here other than the self-appointed. I’ll allow others to kill themselves quickly, or slowly, if they choose, while doing what I can to keep my family and those in my community safe. Because that’s what is in the best interests of everyone right now, regardless of anyone’s opinion.
This is real, it is dangerous, far too many have died needlessly at its hands due to a lack of leadership, and we need to do better. Downplaying it and blaming the media for it accomplishes nothing. Over 200,000 are dead and no, they are the furthest thing from only the old, obese and diabetic. Those people don’t deserve to die either, but this affects and can kill ANYONE, and our “leadership” admitted that in an audio interview back in March, while saying the opposite in public every day since. Too many things about our response have been wrong, and indeed, wholly unAmerican.
He will reply with majority of these people were older or had combos of hypertension, obesity, glucose intolerance/diabetic, lacked phsyical lifestyle, ate junk food/high cholesterol and/or was predisposed to a lung/asthmatic conditionDoesn’t change 200,000 dead Americans in 7 months. Doesn’t change lack of knowledge of long-term health effects. Doesn’t change my wanting to keep my immediate family and my community safe. Doesn’t change a thing.

I rant and rave? I’m not even going to dignify that with a response. Again, old, fat, diabetic people don’t deserve to die from this disease. The response of every single reasonable human being contributes to the well being of the more vulnerable population. Having said that, thousands and thousands of perfectly healthy people in their 20s and 30s have died. They are not numbers, they’re real people. A 28 year old ob/gyn who had recently delivered her first baby died the other day. Ultranationalistic thinking, the “we are better than everyone in the world at everything and nothing and no one can touch us, so we’re not going to let some worldwide pandemic change our precious way of living” mentality has done more to contribute to illogical behavior and response to all of this than probably anything else.
