I chose to attend Seton Hall because of their basketball program. Chalk me up as shallow and ignorant. I would just like to hope that at 21 years old, my grammar and sentence structure was on a different level than Ashton’s!I can't believe that there are that many who are that shallow and ignorant of the importance of choosing a school for the right reasons!
Academic reasons for choosing a school should have little to do with rankings. Much like basketball recruiting rankings, once you get past the elites there's really not much to separate them. The gap between 100 and 200 isn't big. It's more about focusing on the specific program you're interested in, beginning with if a school even offers it and if so then going into how it differentiates itself and how those differentiators align with what you're looking for.he’s got a point. It’s not a dumb thing to do. He’s investing 4 years of his life and potentially six figures worth of student loans.
SH is outside the top 150 in academic rankings and has a below average social scene. What differentiates Seton Hall from Montclair state for a local kid who wants to stay home for school? Basketball
Yeah point being not much differentiates SH from Montclair state without the athletics (basketball) experience.Academic reasons for choosing a school should have little to do with rankings. Yes, at the overall school level I agree, but I'm saying to an individual student it could be massive.Yeah point being not much differentiates SH from Montclair state without the athletics (basketball) experience.
in the kids defense he started college during the pandemic of isolated social experience and masking. If you went through 3.5 years of school and walked away with the feeling "without basketball, Seton Hall is nothing" I feel very sorry.
Thank you for giving me a much-needed belly laugh. Have a wonderful Christmas and maybe some day you will see the light and veer leftward! If you chose Seton Hall because of the basketball team, you deserve what you get.
It's both the fault of the kid and the school. From the kid's perspective how did you not get involved with anything to find it to be nothing without basketball. From the schools perspective how is not felt everywhere that Seton Hall is more than just basketball.in the kids defense he started college during the pandemic of isolated social experience and masking.
1st) Merry Christmas, and 2) WE ARE A LOT ALIKE, LOL!!!!Thank you for giving me a much-needed belly laugh. Have a wonderful Christmas and maybe some day you will see the light and veer leftward!
He's probably an entitled spoiled brat.If you went through 3.5 years of school and walked away with the feeling "without basketball, Seton Hall is nothing" I feel very sorry.
I don’t think this excludes the fact that he made friends and got involved other ways. But we all know successful basketball team and highlights of being at the games lives longer than memories of the fraternity parties. In recent years the Shavar 3pointer of SJ, the Big East championship, the Michigan state and Maryland games in 2019 are some of the proudest moments of being a SH alum. A kid chose SH hoping for that, clearly he screwed up and I’m not sure posting this to Twitter was his best move. I’m just saying he’s got a pointIt's both the fault of the kid and the school. that's a joke, right? see the light & veer leftward???? WTH are you talking about?Thank you for giving me a much-needed belly laugh. Have a wonderful Christmas and maybe some day you will see the light and veer leftward!
The entire student experience goes into the decision making process. Calling a student entitled or a brat because he is frustrated, seems awfully judgmental.
Basketball can definitely enhance the experience, but if your college experience is based on college basketball (when you're not a player), you missed out big time.I don’t think this excludes the fact that he made friends and got involved other ways. The attitude of the school itself, or at least those making decisions, seems to be stubbornly frozen somewhere around the LBJ/Nixon era. And of course that is also shared by some on this board. This is what most millennials on this board deal with when discussing the on campus, community, etc issues of the school since 2000-2012 ish when a lot of us went to SHU.
And most posters who graduated 20-40 years before we went to SHU basically call us brats, entitled, lacking values, not mature, etc
Welcome to the mentality of many on this board: "Either you say SHU was the best experience in your life or you're an ass!"
What does SHU have that makes it stand out? Academics? Nope look at the rankings. Cost? Lol GTFO. Community/on campus activities/lifestyle? No. Basketball? .................
When did you graduate seton hall? If you ask anyone of the recent grads 2014-2022 you’ll get a version of this sentiment. South Orange has become worse and worse to the studentsBasketball can definitely enhance the experience, but if your college experience is based on college basketball (when you're not a player), you missed out big time.
The time frame you bring up is very interesting to me. I still believe the school lost a ton of money at that time. With no inside knowledge on the subject, as an outsider I have to believe the school lost a ton of money from the fire. At that point in time they were cutting many things including athletic programs like wrestling. A family member was applying to Seton Hall at that time and was told think hard about his other choices because Seton Hall is cutting a lot of things right now probably because of money issues, who knows what they'll cut next. Good advice, bad advice is not the point, but it sure seems the people in that time frame didn't enjoy their experience as a whole. School was a top 5 party school before the fire. This is what most millennials on this board deal with when discussing the on campus, community, etc issues of the school since 2000-2012 ish when a lot of us went to SHU.

FSU, UF named the nation's top 'party schools'
TALLAHASSEE -- Florida State University students can tap a keg in honor of their latest No. 1 ranking -- but maybe they wouldn't need a reason to anyway.www.theledger.com
He's an entitled brat when he states "Please consider this as a wake up call." Um, excuse me??And most posters who graduated 20-40 years before we went to SHU basically call us brats, entitled, lacking values, not mature, etc
When was the last time we’ve seen publicly students call out the Athletic Director? He may sound entitled but dam this isn’t a good look by any means. EmbarrassingHe's an entitled brat when he states "Please consider this as a wake up call." Um, excuse me??
AARP members: complain about lack of student excitement/engagement/involvement for several years in a row. He's an entitled brat when he states "Please consider this as a wake up call." Um, excuse me??
I'm a boomer who doesn't like the good ole boys club, the admin, and entitled brats. None of this should be news to anyone here. I also believe in showing a modicum of respect and this tweet showed none. A wake up call? There is a reason the vast majority of people post 2000 view shu one way and a reason boomers and elder gen x view it another way. Maybe the good ole boys club and admin need a wake up call?
But no no, let's just stick with the "you're an entitled brat who doesn't understand the world" because that has worked to date with SHU.
