Is it time for Israel to harness itself?

Why should any country at war tip their hand? We were significantly criticized for tipping our hand on when we moved out of Afghanistan. It was dumb and it was reckless and a huge disaster that killed many and some are still being killed because of it.

Maybe Israel has a plan? Maybe they don't want to share it. Maybe we won't like it? But why on earth would they tip their hand? They are not stupid. The folks arguing that they need to tip their hand are.

A goal for what happens next isn’t tipping their hand, unless of course it’s something the rest of the world would not condone… in which case then, yes… they wouldn’t want to tip their hand. That’s my concern here.

Agree to disagree there.
I think there is a level of care you take to protect civilian lives when possible.
The US was criticized on this board for civilian deaths in Iraq, and we did not see the level of destruction in Iraq that is occurring in Gaza. The US has criticized Israel for violating international humanitarian law, but you give them a pass? It's odd.
What are you supposed to do when the terrorists are hiding in hospitals and you've given advance notice that you are coming? Do you just put your soldiers at unnecessary risk? There have been 35,000 casualties over 7 months (and that includes the Hamas terrorists) in a highly concentrated strip of land with 2 million people. I'm not saying Israel has not made errors, but I'll put more blame on Hamas for the deaths of civilians for putting them in harms way.
Which is all part of a 70+ year battle, with no end in sight. Israel will occupy Gaza again in the name of safety and another generation of Palestinians will grow up hating Israel for taking the land.
You are not differentiating what happened on October 7. It was a planned terrorist attack that slaughtered and tortured innocent civilians. It's going to be remembered for that date, not just another day of a 70 year conflict.
As I said earlier, I believe that the only way this ends is if Israel can convince Palestinians to hate Hamas more than they hate Israel. If they can't do that, this is just another time of conflict between the two that will continue for another generation.
That's just not happening. The Palestinians have proven they can't govern themselves, so you're going to expect the people they hate the most to convince them to do that? Pass the joint please.

Now here’s a winning strategy…send a washed up actor with anger issues to read off a piece of paper….
DeNiro is a washed up actor? lol. You are talking about one of the greatest actors of all time who has appeared in some of the greatest movies of all time. His last movie was pretty damn good. Killers of the Flower Moon with DeCaprio. Your hatred of anything doing with Dems clouds every opinion you have.

DeNiro takes any movie he can get now. He was great earlier in his career but has tarnished his reputation. Only you can’t see that. Tell me that wasn’t an embarrassing display yesterday?

These what-abouts and irrelevant hypotheticals are great. Let's make the arrested and blindfolded woman a dirty commie too, while we're at it.

You see Mr. Robot, the TwitterGuy only shows news on the side he favors. I think you would get a lot more fair commentary on that one situation if we weren't bombarded with only news that favors one side. Now if he showed how women in Palestine are treated for going against the grain and then showed this clip there might be a real conversation about the clip shown. However the Chinese water torture approach to showing only things that support his views has people calling for other views.

So what’s the year that he sucks?? He has made Silver Linings Playbook, The Joker, The Irishman and Killers of the Flower Moon in the past 10 or so years. Those are good performances in good movies. Also, Hollywood is not making all time great movies anymore. Raging Bull, Goodfellas and Casino quality movies are just not being made these days.

The only movie on that list in the last 10 years were Flower Moon and the Joker.

How about all these recent flops over the same period?: Hands of Stone, The Comeback Trail, Red Lights, Amsterdam, Grudge Match, The War With Grandpa, The Heist, The Family, The Comedian, The Bag Man, Dirty Grandpa, Killing Season, The Big Wedding, and so on….

Once again, did you really think his performance in front of the courthouse was a good idea? He is an angry old man that has to read off a piece of paper. You didn’t answer that part.

First, the Irishman was in 2019. I am not sure what you are complaining about. Because he read off papers and voiced his opinion? He has a right to voice his opinion. He didn't say anything outlandish. His clash with Trump supporters. Well, he should be above it but nothing he did was crazy. You don't like his opinion, so what. I really don't care what most entertainers say. But, I am sure if DeNiro was a conservative, you would have a different outlook on him.

Once again, there are a dozen dogs I listed in the last 10 years. That’s not relevant. I made my point.

Answer my question. Do you think it was a good idea for him to do that yesterday? He comes across no better than Trump. Personal and antagonistic.

I'm not sure why mentioning De Niro in this thread in the first place was relevant. Was it meant to go in a different LOTS thread?

Joe Biden spoke yesterday about the current deal on the table, which he called the "Israeli proposal."

He said the onus was on Hamas to accept the deal, which the media and pro-Israel organizations ran with.

This proposal is basically identical to the proposal Hamas agreed to weeks ago, but Israel rejected.

And there was Joe Biden yesterday touting the same proposal, which he very clearly said was Israel's proposal, and said it was now on Hamas to accept. So, what does Hamas say this time? Well, they still like the proposal they agreed to weeks ago, big surprise.

And Israel's thoughts on the "Israeli proposal?" They have rejected it, again:

Which leads to conflicting headlines like these:

Israel says no end to the war until the destruction of Hamas, which Secretary Blinken said in January was not possible, and Joe Biden reiterated yesterday. So I guess the war will just continue until Israel says so? It's almost as if Israel doesn't want it to end...

They laid out the objective on October 8th and have not wavered. Return of all hostages and surrender or elimination of Hamas. If both happen it’s safe to assume the war would end.

The Secretary of State and the President have both said that it's not possible. Blinken told this to Netanyahu in person in January.

"Blinken told Netanyahu that ultimately there is no military solution to Hamas, according to the officials, and that the Israeli leader needs to recognize that or history will repeat itself and violence will continue. But, the officials said, Netanyahu was unmoved."

So? That’s great that it’s our position but obviously Israel disagrees. Who is to say we are right?

You're also wrong about their stated objective since October 8th. Where are you getting this stuff?

"Israel confirmed President Biden's speech on Friday described "in general" the Israeli proposal for a hostage-ceasefire deal in Gaza but emphasized Israel can resume fighting if it thinks Hamas violates the deal at any point."
