Kenpom

I checked Kenpom before Charleston and we were 97. We win 2 of 3 in Charleston and today we're 105. Does that make sense to anyone???
Blow out by Vanderbilt outweighs two close wins: one against a decent VCU team; one against a not-so-good FAU team.

The losses against Fordham and Hofstra are going to be killers for net and it already shows for kenpom.

It makes perfect sense.

Most importantly, if anyone in SHU’s general KenPom neighborhood didn’t have a bad loss on Friday like the Hall did, well guess what, it’s going to reflected in the rankings.

Secondly, KenPom measures efficiency. Do I really need to say anything more?

Bottom line: It’s not just a SHU-centric ranking. Where SHU falls depends on the results of all the other teams. If SHU does okay, but other teams do better, then they’ll pass them, which eight teams apparently did.

An annual tradition occurring 20x per season.
Honestly we can only be so lucky this year because it will mean people still care. I watched Dixon play for Nova yesterday and he was amazing. Nova on the road, Georgetown at home and Xavier on the road all before New Years. Sign me up that we are in a position where people still care.

Craziest KP stats of the young season and our ranking amongst all 364 D-1 teams......

2-pt FG% - 38.5% (357th in nation)
3-pt FG% - 39.8% (25th in nation)
FT % - 60.3% (347th in nation)
% of all shots that are from 3pt - 32.3 (321st in nation)

We shoot better from 3 than from 2!!!

Sha's strategy is to keep driving to shoot from the paint or draw fouls. We are embarrassingly terrible at both while hitting a high percentage of the small number of 3s we attempt has won us games. Go figure.

I really would not even look at Kenpom this year as we are not going to look good based on how poor we are playing in the OOC. I would really focus on the improvement of our young players. The important thing will be to identify who Sha wants to keep and make sure we have the funds to do that.

Agree. It is going to look just as bad for NET. Even with a good conference record those losses are really going to hurt.

We’re explaining this again this year? I thought we’d get to Christmas at least.
Explanation season came early this year. It's like putting out Christmas displays and decorations before Halloween. Lol. I figured we'd get to the release of the first NET rankings which is probably two weeks away.

For the life of me, I don't understand how people don't understand that rankings typically don't exist in a vacuum but rather are dependent on the calculations that allow you to derive the ranking.

To the original point, our strength defensively took a hit this weekend (as it was bound to do against better competition) but our offensive improvement didn't take a corresponding bump.

sha is probably thinking that free throws will eventually improve over time and that 3pt % will do the opposite
