Well maybe it's nobody's business, but it is a published fact that has just been released for all to view.
Why are some of you being so defensive about our generous coach if you're comfortable with his
donor level? I on the other find it a little or a lot short of what most coaches give back. But forgive me, I
know it's not fashionable to have differing opinions on this board particularly when they are not in lock
step.

Where were all of his donations published? I only saw salary, and notes about him being the "mystery donor".... and of him bidding on some auction items (with no amounts mentioned); I dont recall seeing a complete list.

I could have missed it...just asking...personally I am sure he gives a lot more than we know about...and probably does so anonymously.

Is this something we can do again?
I spoke to the school and even though we ended up giving over $100,010.00 it was agreed upon to stop the Donation Challenge.

The main reason was it was being done about the same time the school had their monthly drive in June and it was confusing donors as well as siphoning off money the school was collecting on their own.

Maybe doing them 6 months apart wouldn't be confusing to anyone and still be beneficial to SH. Nah, too complicated for SH.

No way on earth I have time to run the Challenge during the season. You cannot imagine how much time that took me. At least a couple of hours a day for over two months.

The book had Willard in the $10,000 to 19,999 range for the different Pirate Blue levels but that is just one 1-time donation. It also said elsewhere that he matched what was raised in the 50 states donations by 30%. That plus all of the things Dan said and I have no problem with his donations.

In general i think it's in poor taste to criticize anyone 's donations or lack thereof. No one knows a person's circumstances nor how much money or time they actually give. Anyone who donates their time or money to charity shouldn't be doing it for recognition anyway.

Wasn't criticizing your efforts, which go above and beyond. Sometimes SH just boggles the mind.
I understand. I wasn't criticizing you either. Just trying to explain the logistics.

The only time I would have to run the Challenge is leading up to the summer months and that is the worst time as it directly conflicts with Pirate Blue's own efforts.

No one is at fault. Just one of those things.

Excellent point Fishjam. I am on the Finance Council at my church and a while back we did a big fundraiser and unfortunately it came with different donation levels etc to recognize parishioners with a plaque etc in the new wing of the church that was built. Some of the biggest donors wanted to be anonymous which I appreciate and agree with. They never got recognized on the plaque but donated the most and wanted to stay anonymous. So you never know and not judging (although hard) is sometimes the hardest but best thing to do. This whole thread is really something IMO.

i wonder how many other coaches donate to their schools
They all do. Some, like KW because it's the right thing. Others , so that fans can see it. And still others to lead by example.
These reasons are not mutually exclusive.
