We wanted to let the postseason and transfer portal play out before we recorded our final episode of the year.

We dive into…
  • What other ex-Pirates are doing
  • And yes that includes our perspective on the Willard / Maryland / Nova saga
  • We discuss how disappointing the season was and give some other comparisons for historical perspective
  • We try to make sense of how to build a roster as Seton Hall at the moment
  • We discuss how the house settlement could truly impact our NIL funds
  • And we discuss the players who have left and those who have joined us in the early portal window.
Hope you enjoy, and see you next fall for new episodes.

I agree with the sentiment that there should be visibility into how much of a budget a school has to use. Would clear up alot and stop alot of the nonsensical talk.

Some musings:

1. The school doesn’t seem to care at all about its reputation, which stinks of living in the past. We’ve got media galore and opposing coaches calling us out. We just opened a beautiful, state-of-the-art facility and did nothing to use it to refute things and did so little to even promote it. Nobody has any media connections or positioning or anything. We sort of sit there quietly.

2. On the basketball, I do think Sha should take more of a hit here. He and his staff brought this group in and they couldn’t play. And then any notion of “development” went out the window as they all walked out except the true freshmen. Dual got a bit better late, but he was so far off to start the year and Harmon imploded (a known risk). This level of whiffing then derailed anything the team could do with DAW of all people at PG. Sha was also visibly miserable all season long, it’s a bad look. And now with the players free to come and go, that is something he needs to be cognizant of. They don’t have to just deal and learn to deal with him.

3. I’m a bit dubious on the Deloitte Clearinghouse element being a reality; seems contrary to all rulings and NCAA self-auditing to date. So, the big question is do we have the people in place to adapt? Over the 3 years of Holloway’s tenure, the sport did a 180 in terms of what it was and what it’s become. We have a bunch of people in leadership positions across business development, operations, and the basketball itself who are engrained in SHU and built their entire career on the way things were, in most cases with small schools needing the perks of guardrails. Sharp people adapt. Do we have that? Do we need to be more open to bring in help (don’t ask Mike McBride, LOL). Felt is hinting they need help but he’s seemingly unable to do it?
