Not so sure about that (re: PT). Daboll/Shoen can save their job one of two ways. Either the Wilson/Winston combo gets them a decent season, or the season is going sideways, they put Dart in the last bunch of games, and he shows promise. The latter they can sell ownership on maintaining continuity with the young QB development even if the record sucks (and they play the hardest projected schedule in the league). So, if they get off to a rough start, I think they will put Dart in sooner than later.Giants took the best QB in the draft and will make him sit on the bench behind the corpse of Russell Wilson for a year or two.
They were pretty competitive for a while last year in games but were clearly held back. They've done a lot of good things to improve that defense this offseason, it should be a good unit (Carter, Adebo, Holland, Golston, this DT Alexander could be good). Not so sure about that (re: PT). Who knows about Dart. I’m hopeful. But aside from the rare, rare can’t miss even the NFL can’t figure out the “hits” or “misses” with drafting QBs. It’s such a hard complex position. Some good draft stuff on Mad Dog this week. Nice interview with Giants beat writer Paul Schwartz. He was high on the Dart pick. Besides his strong arm and athleticism he said there's a world of difference between him and Danny Dimes in terms of persona. He said Dart has a presence, a toughness, some swagger in the locker room. No shots taken against Daniel who was a good guy but didn't have that type of gravitas in the room that you want from your QB.
Alexander is very quick for a DT. He ran a 4.95 40. That is fast. Big step up in competition though. He could be a diamond in the rough but many draft experts had him listed anywhere from the 45th to 60th best in the draft. He played very well at the Senior Bowl and caught the attention of a lot of coaches.Let's see what happens today. I like most people are happy with the Carter pick. The Giants being pro active to trade in to the late first round was positive. I believe the positive spin on Dart is because he is new and different. Looking at his video you see a decent not great QB. No idea how Sanders could have fallen this much?? Not crazy about Alexander at 3. He's a depth piece. The Giants need impact starters. He looks slow and Toledo is not in a powerhouse conference by any means. I believe other teams scooped up Giant targets before the 65th pick. An OL could have been picked there. They should consider a kicker today with one of last 2 picks. A LB, OL, DB and one running back..
