Obviously it takes more than just individual ability to win in sports.

But for the sake of this post talent-wise, where do you rate the Hall as regards the other nine Big East programs?

Great idea, Dan, to level set. This question gets lost in all the vitriol aimed at the coach and all the angst over the departure of Gibbs and Sina. I think this is the most talented and balanced squad we've had in many years. The strongest talents are still very young, however, and that makes predictions a crap shoot. I remain hopeful.

We have a few big guns but then a real drop off
That would be the answer I would expect from many of our readers.

That's why I think it critical that our newcomers, and that includes Nzei need to step up.

The nucleus is strong with Whitehead, Carrington, Delgado and DRod, but players like Anderson, Gordon, Nzei, Carter, Singh need to give the returning players some help. If they do we will surprise. If not? Same old same old.

Very top heavy. I would say with much confidence the top 4 are as good a top 4 as we've had in quite some time. Whitehead is in a tough spot because it's not as easy for a guard to come in and dominate like Angel. I hope he makes big strides this year. We saw the flashes last year but he was not an efficient player.

Nothing but question marks really, after the top 4 players.

After the season finished, with Gibbs returning, I thought we'd finish anywhere from 5-7 next year. So I'd bump that down a peg to the 6-8 range.

You have the Seton Hall version of the " Core Four" in Desi, Angel , IW and Carrington plus a graduate senior in Gordon who has considerable experience which gives you a base to build on. Then you have 7 players who you have no idea what you're going to get from them in Anthony,Ish, Anderson, Soffer, Nzei, Carter and Singh. Going into this season I still see us as a bottom third team in the conference from a talent perspective but if Anderson, Nzei , Ish or any of the newcomers make solid contributions we could see an improved team and conference record.

Singh is being counted on as a shooter, so if he delivers then things can take a positive turn. Soffer is too, but in a supporting roll and will likely have limited minutes.
I like the starting group, but we need a player or two who can knock it down from long range. If someone becomes that player than we improve. If not I don't know how we can improve.

We are about as deep as a Michael Bay movie. All flash and no substance.

We have two very good players in IW and Angel that are likely in the top three at their position in the league. Then you have guys that have some level of talent, but need to show they can produce game in and game out (Desi, Khadeen, Nzei, Anderson, Gordon, Carter) and have yet to prove they are BE starters and better than the average BE starter at their position. Everyone else is a question mark. Mid-level in the league as far as talent.

I have no idea where we rank. But I can tell you, if I told you two years ago that we would have a MCD AA and the leading scorer in Bishop Laughlin history who was NYC POY, plus a top 50 kid called the best rebounder in the nation, you would laugh and say NFW could we have talent like that. I like Des as a 3, and I love Nzei and hope he is healthy. We lost MANY games last year to teams with less talent than us (and you can take that to all is hopeless with the same staff...). We are short a proven power player, we cannot trust the front court depth yet, and we are only three deep in proven guards. But damn it, we have talent.

Based on last year and without looking closely at the recruiting classes or who is transferring in/out of the league:

Whitehead (5th PG) (Dunn, Arch, Garrett, DSR).
Carrington (4th SG) (Dunham, Davis, Brunson/Booth)
Rodriguez (4th SF) (Hart, Blueitt, Jones)
Anderson (10th PF)
Delgado (2nd C) (Ochefu)

Whitehead is more talented than all those pgs with the exception of Dunn. However, he's not better than any of them...yet

The issue is "talent" means different things to different people.

I think I'd rank Seton Hall's talent above Creighton, DePaul, and St. John's.
