Hello, the posters on this board want to see more about storms and less of COVID. Ok, I'll follow that guidance. See below regarding recent global storms and the reason why human induced global warming helped with these storms forming.

Great stuff as always. By who could possibly want less Covid talk from you. I think your fans want both. Lmao. So please don’t sacrifice your content on either topic. Just curious is America alone capable of stopping these storms or do we need more help from other countries.

I am still on the cruise ship but we are now moored in New York Harbor, as we got in several days early due to the hurricane. Some of you might be able to see the Regent Mariner, a great way to travel.
I managed to avoid the Frenchman and Brits before they had the chance to razz me again over Biden, but worse yet, I met an 86-year-old guy from Lawrenceville. who was just about as loony a leftist as some posters here. His best line was "I prefer a giraffe for President, rather than Trump". I gently reminded him he has gotten his wish and worse. He giggled and we parted company amicably. It was nice to have a civil political conversation but sad he hasn't learned a thing in all those years. Churchill had it right.

Are these people just running up to you to talk about politics? How have I somehow never run into people clamoring to talk about the state of the US presidency in my travels?

You're not traveling in the right circles, obviously. The guy from lawrenceville, incidentally, started the conversation by bemoaning the sad State of Affairs in the United States of America.

I have been traveling the world possibly longer than you've been alive. I know better than to speak politics or religion in places like Afghanistan, Iran and Pakistan especially, but when someone broaches a subject in the friendly confines of a cruise ship in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, I will respond.

Mergy,

I think you said before you were a Disney World kind of guy and that might contribute to it.

If you travel to Europe and hang in a bar or coffee shop and strike up a conversation, you'd be surprised.

River Cruises tend to attract a particular demographic which are willing to discuss politics.

Europe tends to have more socialist oriented governments and when you meet up with conservatives from those countries, the conversations can get interesting.

Hopefully when your kids get older you'll be able to break free and expand your horizons. 😀

We waited to have kids specifically so we could travel before we were locked into Disney-ish trips. (Ireland, England, Scotland, Wales, Italy, France, Czech Republic, Austria, Malta, several Caribbean Islands) Met plenty of people along the way, and thankfully politics never came up. The kids had their first international trip this year to the Bahamas. No politics there either thankfully.

Admittedly, that was pre-Trump so maybe the environment has changed, or maybe it's just part of becoming a cranky old man. Something to look forward to as I get older I guess.

I travel to Europe for a week every quarter for business and also travel outside the US twice a year for vacation. Interacting with dozens of people and their interest and curiosity of our politics, topics like the pandemic and culture is a common point of discussion. I also have learned a bunch about them and their countries of origin as well.

Why would you be “thankful” that politics never came up? I have found their perspective and questions fascinating.

On vacation in other countries discussing US politics?
To each their own I guess. Hard pass from me.
I find the various constructs of European governments and politics along with their history quite interesting. The lens they see the war in Ukraine, for instance, is quite different than ours.

Based on the way you post on this board I'd say that is a good idea. 🤣

God forbid you might learn a different perspective from someone outside the NY/NJ bubble.

Like I said, to each their own. For vacation, I was more interested in the history, culture and food mostly. No interest personally on “hey what’s your stance on George Bush or Barack Obama” while I’m on vacation.

Though, I do also go to LBI every year as well. Less Trump flags this year but they do despise windmills.

The science is definitely not settled on this.

“Nobel Prize laureate John Clauser has recently been in the spotlight for challenging prevailing climate models, which he says have ignored a key variable.
Mr. Clauser, who recently became a recipient of the 2022 Nobel Prize in Physics for his contributions to quantum mechanics, holds degrees from Caltech and Columbia University. He served in roles at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, and the University of California, Berkeley.
In 2010, he was honored with a portion of the Wolf Prize in Physics.
Recently, Mr. Clauser joined another Nobel laureate and over 1,600 professionals in signing the World Climate Declaration (WCD) organized by Climate Intelligence (CLINTEL). This declaration asserts that there is no ‘climate emergency,’ that climate change science is not conclusive, and that the earth's history over thousands of years shows a consistently changing climate.
The WCD highlights the limitations of current climate models, stating they overemphasize the impact of greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide (CO2). ‘In addition, [climate models] ignore the fact that enriching the atmosphere with CO2 is beneficial,’ the WCD reads, in part.
The declaration further notes that both natural and human activities contribute to climate change and the actual warming observed is less than as predicted by the climate models, revealing our incomplete understanding of climate change.”

That’s kind of a weird take. I don’t ask people what they think about Trump or Biden. I do ask them questions about their country, politics and culture though.

They will typically do the same.

No sh_t.

I mostly talk about those things also. But there's nothing wrong with 5% of the conversation being about, "I am curious to hear your perspective about what you think about such and such. If they care to discuss it and offer an opinion I listen and if not we move on. No name calling.

We've done a few river cruises in Europe and the dinners tend to be long and conversation can ebb and flow. They encourage you to sit with different people each night so that you meet different people each night . So if you're sitting with a couple of Brits you might ask what they think about Brexit. I have no axe to grind that one and it's interesting to hear somebody's opinion other than what you hear on the news.

You can have the last word. I'm done.

I find Europeans to be especially inquisitive about the U.S.

Unfortunately hurricane Lee (caused by human induced climate change) has killed 2 people in the United States. Please pray for our brothers and sisters that are being impacted by this at the US/Canada border.

hurricane Lee (caused by human induced climate change)

It was caused by opposing wind currents over the southeast Atlantic ocean off the coast of Africa. The air currents collide and deflect upward. The moisture in the upward flowing air forms a column which is then rotated by the Coriolis effect. Under the right conditions the rotating moisture builds on itself and a hurricane is spawned.

The record high ocean temperatures caused by human induced climate change had major impact on how this storm developed.

And I'll pray for our brothers and sisters in Chicago. If you would like me, I can start sharing shooting information in Chicago and our local neighborhoods as well.
