They found that people with obesity who contracted SARS-CoV-2 were 113% more likely than people of healthy weight to land in the hospital, 74% more likely to be admitted to an ICU, and 48% more likely to die.

"78% of hospitalizations due to COVID are Obese and Overweight people,"
So instead of diabetes or heart disease over time it was this

strange that its only 48% more likely to die. that seems low compared to the previous statistics

That study that quoted the 48% was from 2020; the percentage is actually higher now.

"Game over" for covid. An early covid alarmist has completely changed his tune. The narrative is changing before our eyes. He's 100% right about governments. Will they yield back the power they've siezed? I'm not so optimistic.

The data is changing and the narrative is catching up. That is exactly how it should work when you let data form your opinions.

Data has not changed. This is still a highly contagious virus with an incredibly high survival rate.

The data has absolutely changed. Omicron is much different than Delta for example.
You have acknowledged that Omicron is a less virulent strain previously. Why argue that now?

The original virus strains were more like the flu for most people - headache, fatigue, nasty cough, chills, body aches, etc. Folks out of commission for a week or 10 days. The people who had breathing issues and died were old, in poor health or overweight (or any combination of those). This is generally the same group that dies from the flu, the only difference being this virus is far more contagious. As a result, the numbers (cases, hospitalizations, deaths) multiplied. When you account for the contagiousness of the virus affecting the numbers, it was quite similar to how the flu affects people. Still, nothing to shut everything down over and that was a huge mistake. Caution for the vulnerable was warranted, but not for the general population.

This new strain is akin to a cold for most. There will be exceptions of course, but it's largely nothing to worry about. So yes, this new strain is less virulent. But the same analogy applies, just on a larger scale because of the contagiousness. Cold < flu. New strain < original.

Omicron has changed the dynamic of the pandemic drastically though. Significantly more contagious and less virulent combined with protection from severe disease for those who are vaccinated.

My opinions have always been driven by the data and my view of the pandemic has changed along with that change in data.

Narrative seems pretty far behind and close minded to change. Djokovic? Out in Australia, already being told he will need the shot for France.

The narrative will always be behind the data because you need to understand and validate the data and understand how and if circumstances will change for better or worse from here. Those who have an understanding of the science need to do their research and communicate the results. Those in positions of power need to listen to the scientific community's recommendations. That's not ever been or ever will be a quick process and they will usually err on the side of caution.

French Sports Ministry said that they do not have exceptions to their policy today, but also noted that it could change between now and May. Would seem to be appropriate to make changes to the policy at some point soon assuming the environment keeps improving.

No surprises here... vast majority of COVID deaths are seniors and a quarter of COVID the entire total are people over the age of 85...only 400 under the age of 5 in two years (and no data on comorbidities of those children). Follow the science....

Of course there is no surprise there. None of that is new.
Little risk of death to kids, but the risk gets higher and higher with age.

Not new at all…it’s just facts…. but that’s not how it’s reported by the MSM….

You got me. Downplay hundreds of thousands of people dying to get Merge. Cool.
That’s your spin/take

and, it’s not just you; I should have used a word or phrase that would encompass more people

rewatch the dark winter exchange and compare to what’s going on now. What happened in winter 2021? How about winter 2022?

Dec 2020 through March 2021 were the deadliest months of the pandemic in the US.
But yeah, make fun of a phrase that showed concern that was ahead of us to own the libs.

Starting in January deaths plummeted - stop that nonsense. of course they peaked in December of the year this virus came out. Hope you don’t feel people are making fun of you, by the way.

And after January? What then?

Really? You’re going to double down on this ridiculousness after being just absolutely wrong about January?

1st deadliest month of the pandemic - Jan 2021
2nd - December 2020
5th - February 2021
More than a quarter million people in those months alone died from Covid.

Yep. My goal is to give the Book keeper and knees opportunities to give you each your thumbs up opportunities. That guy who has reinvted himself here more than once and who aneurisms on game threads also seems to like yours too. Im a giver.

Why not just say you were wrong instead of acting like a toddler?
