Middleton to Portal

I’m starting to wonder if we truly have any money for NIL..

I have to assume that Coleman and Middleton told Shaheen what their price was and we didn’t give it.

We’re not in the position to just let decent players leave as we have nothing to replace them with.

What’s stopping us from giving them their asking price?

Point being, if we can’t afford Middleton. Who can we afford?!?!
I'm starting to wonder if we have any idea how to spend it properly.

I don’t think we have any money. You’d think the desperation would be high and we’d be going hard after top prospects. Not a peep. Only losing our good players.

Leads me to believe we truly have pennies in NIL, nowhere near the money reported here

This is what I have been saying for weeks/months.

Unrelated to Middleton by the way who at the right price is a nice bench player to have on your team. He looked the part of 8th or 9th guy on the roster that can sometimes give you solid minutes. Probably worth about $250k these days to us...but if you have 7-8M in NIL you can afford to pay him 350-500 so we lose.

I get the feeling our coach is committed to a system that constantly rotates 10-11 players per game. Personally, I’m not a fan of it, but I guess it worked once at St. Peter’s. On top of that, with NIL, the money can only be spread so far, which means our top-end players might not be the best

Reading numerous posts about our basketball program ( and posting some myself ) other than a few scattered positive comments about our new practice and development facility there is little to boast about . When you add the lack of success in attracting talent , plus a luke warm administration in recognizing the benefits a successful program can bring it’s understandable why there is such pessimism about the program and that’s not even counting our woeful record on the court.

It’s past time for someone to step up and lead the way and with full transparency start us back on the road to success.

I have my doubts about Shaheen developing a roster even with having money, but this view that the sky is falling because someone who averaged 5 and 2 in his sophomore year is crazy.. it would be nice to keep Middleton another year and have another offseason to develop but let’s not act like this going to be tough to replace..

Still say you spend big money on a pg and a top pf/c…. I’d even say a pg and a sg…

All this panic over Middleton lol
Exactly! The kid had a nice shot but....

He played 21 minutes a game this year and averaged 2.3 rebounds, .8 assists, .5 blocks, .9 steals, 1.1 turnovers and 5.8 points a game. Hardly filled up the stat sheet for a guy with his shot.

His stats were very similar to his first year at Ohio State. His shooting percentage went up (43%) and his 3 pt percentage (38.4%) went down. Slight improvement overall from his freshman to his sophomore year. He is a 63% FT shooter with long arms and only weighs 180 lbs. While I would have liked to keep him and develop him for the future, he would not start on a good BE team. His basketball IQ was lacking. He did not have a good nose for the ball. He did play hard on defense but other than his long arms, he didn't move his feet very well. He may have been a 4 star coming out of HS but he has not demonstrated that he deserved that ranking. I liked the kid and he cheered hard for his team. Sorry to see him go but this is OK. He was not going to make the difference for us next year. I wish him all the best.

And we couldn’t afford him…. So belittle him all you want but somebody worse is probably replacing him. So enjoy

When you're 2-18 with losses to Fordham, Monmouth and Hofstra you shouldn't lose sleep about losing anyone on this roster. Period.
And who’s coming in? Crickets

At this point it seems like players would rather go to a successful mid major to look good than a bottom feeder power 5.

Hey wait a minute … yes they were stiffs … but they were our stiffs! Bye bye. This year made me appreciate the good years that much more .

Had hope for Middleton, but he appears to be a very overrated player with the ranking coming out of HS.

Shaheen hopefully can redeem himself this off season. If he doesn’t, we are going to need a change.
Everyone will know we need a change if next year is similar, but we're in no position to make a change. The people who will be making the change are exactly the people nobody here wants making those decisions.

If what you guys say is true that the whole team was bad (which it was given the results) then what does this say about the coach and his assistants who recruited and brought all of these players here from Scotty, to Gus etc..

Was it really the kids who were bad? Or how they were coached and actually used or not used maybe? I'm thinking these players were not all as bad as the results showed. Just not used properly in a system that was NOT a match for their playing skills, talents etc..

And of course injuries were a big factor too.

we need the needle to move so dramatically to be good. But I get th feeling that the PG will be a positive.
A huge positive. I'm not saying Budd Clark is a first-team All-America, but isn't just an upgrade at the point guard position; he is something we literally did not have at all this year. We had no point guard. We just had a series of guys who brought the ball up the court. We have been missing that for a long time. The kid who went to play at St. John's was a very good player and with some point-guard traits, but Clark is a classic PG. He fills such a tremendous need here.

And if we start winning you all will be back in those seats
The Book says “don’t bet on it”. 🤪 After 60+ years of watching/supporting college b-ball, I have no interest whether we win or lose. It’s now all about “show me the money”. Not gonna happen anymore. 😰
