Moderna vaccine at 95 percent effective rate

Covid is real and serious, just tested positive.

Currently isolating as I have a very High Temp of 102. PulseOx is solid at 99.

Because I got it they have now have to shut down my my fiance's animal shelter for the next 14 days.

If anyone can drop a donation to them it would go such a long way as they had to furlough over 20 employees!

Plainfield Area Humane Society
Sorry to hear. Hang in there buddy and get well soon!

Not sure how accurate this is for the state.

Pennsylvania has about 4,156 ICU beds. Based on best available data, we estimate that 57% (2,352) are currently occupied by non-COVID patients. Of the 1,804 ICU beds remaining, 1,191 are needed by COVID cases, or 66% of available beds. This suggests hospitals may not be well positioned to absorb a wave of new COVID infections without substantial surge capacity. Caution is warranted.

Hopefully the peak is close because the upward trend is unsustainable to the state.
As I said earlier, best barometer is how hospitals continue to accept elective procedures and if they have plans to slow down. Anything can happen, but there is no indication they plan on doing that. And if they are turning the patients out of the ICU's at a much faster rate that has a big impact on how they manage capacity.

First of all, your sister is a saint. Managing home health care workers and ensuring their safety is virtually impossible.

I haven’t seen the complete priority list for Pennsylvania but I have to think they are going to be one of the first groups eligible to receive the vaccine.

unfortunately, there is no elegant way to protect the elderly. Much of it falls on their shoulders.Heartbreaking.
the story seems to be more related to the elderly than to philly. im currently in philly and to the normal layperson its pretty normal out there. of course i am not in a hospital, but one of my good friends is a dr at jeff. says theyre more full with non covid related matters. that its been pretty full, but better this week. no doomsday scenario. they havent stopped elective since the beginning.

now, his sister is indeed a saint and dealing with the #1 at risk type of people. even though it seems relatively fine our conservative actions will help people like her. we can be positive and diligent. thats the the best combo.

were almost fully at my willard gave jcalz covid on the golf course joke...

102 is higher than my any of my direct contacts, (who are your age and ended up fine). good on your fiance for being honest with the shelter. any idea how you got it?

What a day it has been was up at 102 this afternoon now without any Tylenol etc back down to my normal of 97, and feeling good, but a long way to go,.

Yeah, a cousin is on the NYPD scuba team. He was off late late last week and no one informed him that half the squad has it. He had been tested a ton and we felt good about him not being on the streets, being he is on a boat 100% of the time. But, this is a crazy bug and you can never be certain. Lesson Learned.

My fiance has now been tested and is negative!!!! she is currently living in an airbnb for the next 14 days just to be safe. Feel like spk and sami are going to fill in here with some jokes ;)

Hello. Not a good poll from the AP. Only 50% of americans want to take the Covid 19 vaccine. We need that number to go way up if this pandemic is going to end anytime soon. Unfortunately, there are just too many anti vaxxers in this country. The pandemic will continue way into 2022 and 2023.

I suspect I had it in March. One night of a fever and some chills. Went to bed that night and woke up the next morning with no symptoms outside of a cough. Cough and some chest congestion lingered for 7-10 days.

toughest job to get on the force and once you are there you stay for life. Most of the Nypd don’t even know they exists which makes it even cooler.

at the same time pulling bodies and tossed weapons out the Hudson takes its toll but they get a ton of downtime and fishing in..

Now that the FDA has given the go ahead for the Pfizer vaccine I wonder if Cuomo and Newsome are going to delay the release in their states because they want their “special panel” to review it. Will be looking for the statements from these two clowns today.

Only, they haven’t given the go ahead... the Advisory Panel has approved and they are working rapidly toward EUA.

Seriously, what is taking so long? OWS has been great but the UK and Canada have approved and begun vaccination before us with the same data coming to them from Pfizer? What is the FDA still doing to wrap this package in red tape to eventually come to an end that is predetermined, to grant EUA.

I’m not saying the FDA does everything right, but we should be thankful that the approval process that they have is very stringent and very detailed from a data review standpoint.

There are somethings you can’t cut corners on. What 0WS and the FDA did to speed things along we’re essentially moving the vaccines to the front of the line in the review process.

Approval is expected today. If was months longer than UK or Canada think would be some concern about what they are doing, but we are only talking what will be about a week longer than the UK and less than that since Canada approval. I am okay with a few more days to get it approved.

Hopefully it also helps with general publics perception of vaccine.

Jcalz, I hope you feel better soon.

My dad was an NYPD detective. I recall one story he told where they had a suspect that admitted to throwing a gun into the river. They marched him out to the site where he threw it and made him throw a baseball in the same manner. Then they sent the divers in and found the gun.

It’s the semantics that are ridiculous. One of the advisory board dissenters voted no because an EUA should only be used in the cases where it is life threatening. So since it is only life threatening to older populations or pre-existing conditions, the EUA should not warrant broad distribution. Huh? Pardon my French but that’s ****ing stupid.

So my point is, everyone knew that there would eventually be a vaccine and that there would be requests to speed it to the population. This wasn’t anticipated and debated prior to an application for EUA? Come on.

Sami, let’s face it, every organization has its share of “dicks”. Even the FDA. I’m not disagreeing with you on this point. But I would add that they do a better job than similar governing agencies in other countries.

Don’t think you’re being argumentative. I agree with a bit of a push from the White House to get things going.

This is one area that Trumps public messaging (followed by Dems and MSM responding) was just plain dumb about pushing the FDA. OWS provided value to reprioritize the approval schedule and maybe that procured resources outside the agency, but public scrutiny of the FDA and then countering with Governors saying they would do their own review was just inexcusable grandstanding.

Perhaps the dissenter is a jerk but consider this - limiting the EUA to first responders and elderly (similarly to what is being discussed in the public) doesn't mean the EUA wouldn't be expanded in a month or two. It might even give cover for the doctors to deny giving the vaccine under pressure from "connected" people who want to cut the line so to speak and get the vaccine first.

As to your other point, I don't know if the dissenter sprung his theory at the last minute but most likely he made his opinions known internally ahead of time. As i understand it, the debate on approving the EUA was a public event; it was live streamed. I believe it is important to let those dissenting positions be heard in the public domain. It turns out he didn't change any minds but it isn't a bad thing that his opinions are included in the record.

They got pretty dam lucky usually takes a full team over a few days of going inch by inch on the bottom of the Hudson with zero visibility.
