Scout/Indiana Story

Top-30 prospect Louis King of Hudson (N.J.) Catholic and his family tell Peegs.com receiving a scholarship offer from Indiana was "spectacular."

After his impressive play this spring and summer, top-30 2018 prospect Louis King landed a scholarship offer from Indiana.

The 6-foot-8 forward from Hudson (N.J.) Catholic and the Sport U AAU program received the scholarship offer in a phone call with IU coach Tom Crean.

King, ranked No. 27 nationally in the 2018 class by Scout.com, and his parents were on the call with Crean.

“I’m totally grateful for the offer. I appreciate it, and I expressed that to coach Crean,” Luis’ mother, Ativea King, told Peegs.com.

“I thanked him for taking the time to watch my son and acknowledge his talents. I thought the offer was spectacular.”

King is in the early stages of his recruitment, and his family is beginning to learn about the college basketball programs interested in him.

“I didn’t know an extreme amount about Indiana before today,” Ativea King said. “My husband and I, in speaking with coach Crean, we learned Victor Oladipo went there.

“I sent coach Crean a picture of my son and Victor. I found out they went to the Sweet Sixteen, and they’re in the Big Ten, so we learned a lot.”

Crean had the opportunity to discuss Indiana, the player development program that helped Oladipo become a No. 2 NBA draft pick as well as how he feels King would fit in at IU.

“He thinks Luis’ upside is tremendous. He sees him coming in and being a great asset to the team. His potential to be an even better shooter is great,” Ativea King said.

“He was very impressed with his athletic ability, his ability to handle the ball at that size, of course with room for growth in his skills and strength.”

The schools actively recruiting King right now include Indiana, Seton Hall, VCU, Iowa, Maryland, California, Ohio State, Connecticut, Syracuse, Temple, LSU and North Carolina, his mom said of the growing list.

King has been to games at Seton Hall and Temple but hasn’t made other unofficial campus visits yet.

No current visits are scheduled, his mom said.
