(Apologies in advance if this topic appeared in the more than 100 posts on both forums.)

I completely support the major league sports' protests, though all are merely symbolic. Agree with the poster who said boycotting the entire season would have real teeth.

Would teams have boycotted games if they had been scheduled in front of hometown crowds in places like Boston, Orlando, or Toronto?

Dom Smith took a knee during the National Anthem at last nights Mets' game. Good for him. More ado results from reactions to the protesting players than the act itself.

I would be curious to know if players continue to get paid.

I think Americans are starting to tune out sports, I know I have.

Just heard that the Lakers' and Clippers' players are meeting to consider a boycott for the rest of the season. That would be significant.

How? The majority of population really doesn’t care what Hollywood or athletes think or do when it comes to their lives. They are entertainers that don’t carry much if any political currency.

Same here. It was a gradual process over the years and has been accelerated in 2020.

Baseball was the sport I loved the most growing up. Was a big Yankees fan, but these days I really don't care about how the Yankees do. Was never much into football. I actually watched the NBA when I was a teenager, back when the three point shot wasn't such a huge part of the game and big men actually roamed the paint! But I haven't followed the NBA in probably 15 years now. The style of play is unappealing and those who play in the league are even more unappealing.

The NBA is self destructing. It would be funny to see salaries plummet as ratings tank.

And people have tuned out cartoons when they get to a certain age and people have tuned out tv shows when they jump the shark, no worries

Except sports are something people are usually committed to for life, it's a passion. Get woke go broke!

I have tuned out most pro sports amd am fearful college athletics will follow.
I am extremely confident that college athletics will follow. I'm worried HS and youth sports will follow. I've been to the last 29 Little League World Series. I cringe at the idea people will kneel for the US anthem and stand for the international anthems of countries such as Japan, Mexico, and soon Cuba.

But some people actually listen to them so...

You're almost 40 and watch wrestling, though.
Oh donnie b joined the party...nice of you...i watched pro wrestling ages 4 to 18, stepped away 19 to 26, been back into it 27 to now, not like i was in past. I know enough on all orgs. Choreographed athletic displays far better than any RHOF Brand or Jersey Shore...i know people older than me that are into more than me and watch with their kids.

He'll probably tell you how important he is and how much money he makes. That's all the substance he provides.

And how his law firm is ready to line up and sue people who've had enough of the COVID scam shutdown and want to get on with their lives.

Will be interesting to see what this board looks like once the college basketball season starts. First I learned of Blake was actually from a Jared Rhoden tweet.

Maybe Jared isn't as smart as we thought then. I feel bad for these kids being brainwashed. It's not a white or black thing, it's a human being thing. If a white man acted that way the cops would be justified in their actions as well.

It has nothing to do with being smart or not, I wouldn't go there. I do agree that young people are being brainwashed to believe the myth of systemic racism. It is the democratic party's agenda -- divide and conquer. They have been trying to divide people for decades and are now going in for the kill. They have the media on their side and a target they all universally hate in the White House, so they're trying to take advantage of the moment by pushing these fallacies. It is all to gain more voters (many who will sadly vote for them), which ensures their grip on power and big government for years to come.

Is there a written rule that we all have to agree with what each player thinks in order to cheer for them?

Part of growing up is learning about the consequences of your actions. Totally respect his point of view and the freedom that he has to say it. Respect him for that.

Whether it’s Jared or anyone else though, if you take your political views onto the court, you need to be prepared for a multitude of responses. That’s how life works.

Looks like NHL is trending towards no games tonight.
Hopefully they are protesting in the names of Secoria Turner, Royta De'Marco Giles Jr., Davon McNeal, Natalia Wallace, Cannon Hinnant, and the rest of the children killed for no reason that people seem to have forgotten about.

I kindly ask you to be better than that when talking about one of our players.

I love Rhoden, I think he's being brainwashed to believe certain things by social media. I am very proud of our players.

Not going to get into a debate on this. The first sentence could've easily been kept to yourself or re-worded. I respect your opinion and believe your heart is in the right spot, but sometimes the wording scares me. And believe me I butcher the English language as much as anyone, but what's said and what was meant to be said create 2 completely different reactions out of people. It gives people reason not to get along.

Considering he is black and has had the life experience to teach him what it is like to be a minority, could it be that he isn't the one that is brainwashed?

Nope. You don't have to agree with their opinions, but we are moving beyond viewing athletes as entertainers only.

But Hall85 and many others here do not and wont ever...athlete, musician, actor

Are we? There are exceptions, but in general most entertainers and athletes are running the virtue signaling playbook. I judge people by their actions and how they contribute to solutions. Wearing a pithy T-shirt, posting a meme, kneeling or walking off of court don’t rise to that level.

That's fine. Some will be better than others.
Some will just kneel or wear a shirt, but some will get involved, some will be ignorant and some will have well thought out views... The point is that they have opinions and good or bad, we are going to see them display it.

And ask me if I care about the opinions they have on display. As I said before, most of it is virtue signaling. Yawn.
