NEC winner moving to Div III

Smart, so many of these schools really have no business being D-1.

I’ll just never understand why D-2 barely exists.

If a school like us sends all its hoops revenue to NIL and the program doesnt get competitive, I think at least some in charge will wonder if D1 is worth it now.

Im Certain we will just throw more money at it.

I don’t believe so.
It was a 4 year school Monmouth College that became a University in the relatively recent past.

Monmouth's2 year county college is Brookdale Community

NYU was a basketball power and went D3 around 1970. Never was sure why they did it. Money not an issue for them. Werkman's scoring rival was NYU's Barry Kramer.

I , personally , applaud the move by St Francis -- it will allow the school to act as a University rather than a minor league for poaching programs. Although I am not a big IVY League person , I have always admired their collective approach to Athletics and would have hoped other conferences did likewise -- that ship has sailed

And doesn't St. Francis have a football program? Play Kent State, Dayton, Central CT., Sacred Heart, Wagner. Are they keeping football?
Visited St. Francis with my son in about 2000. In the middle of nowhere. Would imagine canning D 1 basketball might turn campus into a ghost town.

MBF72 St Francis will drop it's football to Division 3 also -- the University has an endowment almost double SHU but has seen the handwriting created for Div 1 athletics

Pat Leahy is the President of Monmouth and I hate to say it, but he runs circles around our entire leadership. Guy is really bright, moving up from University of Scranton, then Wilkes College before taking the Monmouth job. He has done an amazing job down there and expanding the university and fundraising. we should be so lucky.

Are you sure about their endowment? I recall it being considerably smaller than ours

That school has had good leadership for 20 years. Gorgeous campus, improved academics and sports.

Double the endowment? Wow. When will Seton Hall and our colleagues in similar positions realize athletics isn’t worth it anymore. We’re the Tampa Bay Rays to the SEC’s L.A. Dodgers.

Rays routinely competative they dont miss on drafts and player dev is quite good but then the guy gets traded at arbitration
