NJSIAA refs rig end of game

Maalik Wayns of Philadelphia hs legacy and Villanova is the Camden head coach

The title of the OP and this "lawyering up" stink of entitlement. Nothing was "rigged." They made an egregious mistake, nothing more. It's lousy, particularly for the Manasquan kids, but take a page from PJ and the Pirates in '89 and let it go.
It is rigged when an njsiaa official curries favor to the ref crew to change a call

Nobody knows that that happened at all. A couple conspiracy theorists on Twitter don't make a compelling case. And even if he was involved in the discussion, he's an NJSIAA official (an organization that has been no friend to Camden in recent years). He was likely consulting with them on the rule, which is that there is no replay. The call was wrong, but protocol was followed.

What are the chances Camden does the right thing and lets Manasquan win???
THIS!!! I know sportsmanship is a thing of the past, but this would be the right thing to do and if Camden moves on and wins the championship, it will be tainted as well.

Great life lesson to do the right thing...but very few do that anymore.

Not the same. A foul call is subjective, but the clock isnt.

The clock shouldn't be, I agree. I think Manasquan got the discussion that was allowable on-court (which didn't include a replay, unfortunately), and needs to leave it there. They certainly have had their say since.

New for 2023-24: High school replays!

It's ridiculous to expect Camden to step aside. They played by the rules and the refs made an error. Would a college team step aside in March Madness if a refs error gave them the game?

Absolutely not. It doesn't make them a poor sport either like is being insinuated.
It wouldn't happen in the college game because it would have been reversed. This is a black and white end of game call that is all there on tape for the world to see. If Camden wins, it's "yeah, but"....

I don't disagree with any of the above. I would add that there are few opportunities that life presents such a clear teaching moment. The Camden team clearly did not win the game on merit. Their Administrators could simply agree that Manasquan won the game fair and square and that they should continue on in the tournament in place of Camden. They would be reinforcing that success is based on merit even at the expense of momentary self-satisfaction. These are teenagers and the sport is extracurricular to the primary educational objectives.

Not everything is reviewable in college or pro sports. The NfL didn't overturn the Saints Rams game after a blatant pass interference sent the Rams to the Super Bowl....

This isn't the first and won't be the last botched call by a ref.

My opinion is that the life lesson would be to allow Manasquan and Camden in the playoffs and adjust the field to do this even if it means adding some other teams that got bounced. How hard could that be? It would go a long way to making sense of a bad rule and correcting bad officiating

There's no sense in giving them this misleading impression, at least as an absolute truism. Merit is just one of the variables that determine success. This is a good opportunity for the kids from Manasquan to learn this, something they will begin to see as a pattern as they go through adulthood. Is it unfair? Of course. But life will bring plenty of that. No matter how much one prepares, there is always an element of randomness one cannot account for.

But with no replay allowed the call was indeed subjective. It unfortunately was the wrong one.
The original call was true and factual...the overturn was a rigged result manipulated or controlled by dishonest means

It’s not a matter of a judgment call like pass interference no matter how egregarious it was. Ball goes through the hoop after the buzzer. End of story. Nothing up for interpretation there. Everybody hae said so.

Huh?

You're a very good poster but in this situation I think you are really straining to explain a poor choice of words.

Hallline i think you are one of few here who would endorse me as a very good poster...i dont feel this is a conspiracy...i mean squan didn't even make 1 FG in the quarter up until that ending basket that counted but then didnt count...the global referee decision was manipulated

The head ref who overruled the shot may have been intimidated in some form or fashion. Was it by the Camden official? Was it the home crowd? or Did he merely second guess himself as many of us do from time to time.?

This was a neutral site event at central regional hs

It is though because they can't use replay in NJ Hs ball, so it was a judgement call, which they screwed up. The refs absolutely screwed up, but life goes on. We shouldn't have judges blocking games.

I agree that this shouldn’t go to court and by the rules, the decision is the decision.

I was agreeing with SPK, that the only possible solution is for Camden to pass on going to the next round. Sportsmanship. The video showed it was a mistake and a game ending play. Everybody saw it and keep seeing it.

Judge won't do anything...agree with that...school district now going to dept of education

If that happened he probably disagreed with the other ref. Happens all the time and without replay I assume the head ref went with what he believed was the correct call.

Again, you are talking about a fraction of a second. In that short period of a time mistakes will occur.
For instance after Clougherty made that terrible call against the Hall in '89 one of the other refs told a member of our staff as they walked off the court you got @#$%&

The judge has absolutely no choice here. Can you imagine the flood gates this would open in all HS and middle school sports once a bad call was made. The courts would be inundated by upset daddy ballers that it was not strike 3 on their son, or Johnny caught the ball inbounds, etc etc etc.

we’ve all been there -life lesson.

Go have a beer with Armando Gallarga if you want to hear 1 of the many times this has happened.
