Just saw breaking news from Jerry that Nyre is leaving. Issues with the Board of Regents. Placeholder to lead for the time being. Nyre was a solid guy who was from central casting as to what a President looks and acts like. Significant loss at this point in the school's future. Carino served up one interesting person - Pat Lyons. This will be an interesting story to watch and focus on going forward. Why can't we have nice things that last?

People leave positions all the time. And there will be spin on it for sure. Two things I would look for is where is Nyre going and who takes his place. That will tell you all you need to know.

Interesting that this was a fight over the law school. The law school is the crown jewel of Seton Hall University which does operate on its own. I can understand that Nyre wanted more control but you can’t let the University damage the the law school.

Hobbs would be the home run and should have been given the presidency the last time. The only question can they afford him? I dont think so. SHU would need to come up with 1.5 million. He would be worth it.
Hobbs would rather keep going with his fantasy of AD to Rutgers prominence vs deal with red tape and burocracy of shu ecosystem

Sad to hear of the crap going on with Law School. SHU can’t screw that up. Crown Jewel really of our Academics.

Only reason I’d like Hobbs is due to his Seton Hall background. Maybe not a good reason, but I do believe the guy would genuinely be looking to do the best thing for the University. His track record in hindsight is decent although we/I used to criticize him for the Willard hire.

This is a real shame IMO. The University needs continuity right now. Hoping they can hit another home run hire but the law school situation may make candidates pause before pursuing the job.

Geez. Maybe the Law School has too much autonomy? Is that really a big enough issue for Nyre to walk? is the “STONG personality“ really the issue?

Please no, just no to any of them.
Why your stance on Hobbs? Hobbs at the law school brought the law school to almost a top 50 ranking when he was the Dean. He is great politically and a Seton Hall alum who is supportive of the basketball team.

I don’t see the negatives. Please shed some light.

Stunning news. You do not want to lose someone of his accomplishments.

Tough guy from what I was told. STRONG personality. But again really good at what he does.
The description of him tells me the good old boys at the Hall (Board of Regents ) Etc. did not get along with him because he would not look the other way and also did not fall in line with them. Typical Seton Hall old school mentality .

Agree IF true

Spot on ! We lose a leader in his prime who is an academic from Harvard because of nonsense

He did a great job with the law school but is far too bureaucratic to lead the entire school. He'll spend us into bankruptcy.

He’s been given pretty much an open check book at RU with the rationale that B1G revenue will be coming down the road. Not saying that is right or wrong but it is what it is.

Anyone taking the helm at SHU realizes you work with constrained resources.

Nearly $1M embezzled from Law School, yet we're worried about Nyre damaging it? Sounds backwards...

has anyone walked through The Presidents hall building in the last 10 years?

We’d have to renovate the building to make sure Chris Christie doesn’t go through the floors.
Comments on his weight are not necessary and only demean you

The law school has always operated autonomously from the university. It causes a great deal of friction when you tell leadership who've been working there for decades that they are losing control/oversight even though they are the crown jewel of the university.

Just as a small example...Nyre/undergrad took away the employees print access. You start micromanaging like that it's going to ruffle some feathers.

Big difference between print access and embezzlement don’t ya think?
