Nyre Leaving - Wow!

I feel like it was tongue in cheek suggestion, but Chris would be an excellent choice. Former governor coming over to take the reins of Seton Hall? I think that is, in many ways, a perfect statement for the university and of its presence and value in the state. Plus, love him or hate him, Christie is hard to ignore. He'd make things happen. Eventually, he might flame out or in some kind of semi-controversy, but in the meantime he would make things happen.
You don't want a polarizing figure running your school. You also don't want someone who is opening looking for his next bigger opportunity. Christie would be a horrific choice.

Agree to disagree. In any event it's not going to happen.

Christie is running for President (won’t get it though). I doubt he’s paying attention to our two day old presidential search at this point. He’s a politician first, not an academic.

There are plenty of true leaders in academia, but many of them are not serving in the president's office. Some of them are comfortable at the current level; many others just know better than to pursue that.
Hopefully we find one of those.

Then UConvicts can put him on their short list for their next President. When he left office in NJ his popularity rating was 80% or more - NEGATIVE. He’s already flamed out.

Lol, you really feel the need to insult when you post. Is it that you don't feel like you're enough without it? Because that's what it m seems like.

With this Board, I’m not sure.
Agreed.

Does anyone know how the BOR is chosen? Maybe they need some members who are voted on by alumni so that we are all represented (maybe vote on an alum from each school or college). There are universities that do this, why not look into it and make it less of a good old boys network? I’m sure there are alumni out there who would love to serve a term or two.

You have big money you can be on the BOR.

There are by-laws and terms I would guess are pretty lengthy, a Nominating Committee (made up of BOR members and the President). A long term President can potentially reshape the Board over time.

Let’s not kid ourselves…relationships and money matters.

Silk, it's so MUCH more than that.

The BOR is an incredibly time consuming job with responsivities we can only imagine. The Board members DONATE their time and business acumen for the good of the Seton Hall. And when you consider their status in the business world required for them to reach the heights they have reached, we should be eternally grateful that they do what they do for the school.

highly accomplished folks. Doesn’t mean they have gotten it right. I think it’s inescapable this Board has its issues. I’ll leave it at that.

There are always disagreements in any business arrangement. You are dealing with accomplished individuals in their fields. They didn't reach the heights they have reached without breaking some eggs.

I'm amazed at the lack of respect these people get from so many who give an absolute FRACTION of the time these people give to the school. Financially as well as through their business acumen.

The time, commitment and financial contributions to any non-profit board is not in question. It happens with all non-profit Boards. It doesn't mean that there are not power struggles, poor decisions and politics. We can only judge the BOR on the results over time.

I agree with you about the board members 100% and I admire their time ,effort and their large donations to the school . But if you are a middle class alumnus with the same passion and willing to donate the time , you still would not be considered to be on the BOR . That is all I'm pointing out . Go PIRATES !!!

Walk the campus to see just a small amount of their accomplishments.

SHU in a time where so many colleges and universities are struggling for their very existence, year after year we are welcoming our most accomplished incoming classes.

When I went to school Seton Hall was on par with St Peter's in Jersey City. Look at the difference now. The Big East surely helped. But so did the accomplishments of those in positions of decision making power.

If I recall correctly, going back about 20 years, the alum who won big in the lottery and donated a large amount to the school wound up on the BOR.

And the alum who won the lottery.

I think it might be time to shake things up a bit. You can still include your good ol boys but just because others may not make 7+ figures does not mean they would not be an asset or unable to volunteer to serve on the BOR.

It’s not unfair to judge them on what occurs.
