Seton Hall will return to action this week when it makes the short trip to Queens, N.Y. on Wednesday, Sept. 27 for a match at St. John's. On Sunday, Oct. 1, The Hall will head to Omaha, Neb. for a contest at No. 16 Creighton.

SCOUTING ST. JOHN'S
On Wednesday, Seton Hall and St. John's will resume their lengthy rivalry. St. John's currently owns a slim 20-19 advantage in the all-time series, but the Pirates have won two of the last three meetings. Last season, the teams split a pair of matches with each team winning at home in four sets.
St. John's is coming off a strong year in 2022 which featured a 20-14 final record including a 10-8 mark in BIG EAST play. The Red Storm qualified for the BIG EAST Tournament, but lost in five sets to Connecticut in the opening round. St. John's continued its season at the National Invitational Volleyball Championship, sweeping Binghamton in the first round, but ending its season with a 3-0 loss to Boston College in the second.
In the BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll, the Red Storm were predicted to finish fourth, following Marquette (1st), Creighton (2nd) and Xavier (3rd). Giorgia Walther was named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST team. Walther had a stellar sophomore season for St. John's where she was unanimously named to the All-BIG EAST Team, led the team with 463 kills and 3.67 kills per set which was the third-highest in the BIG EAST. Alongside Walther, the Johnnies return a talented group from 2022, including BIG EAST All-Freshman Team selection Lucrezia Lodi and setter, Wiktoria Kowalczyk.
St. John's enters Wednesday's contest with an impressive record of 10-4 overall and a 2-0 mark in the BIG EAST. They've played a strong schedule so far with their losses coming against Buffalo, Arizona State, No. 16 Arkansas and New Mexico, a team that also defeated Seton Hall earlier this year. Like the Pirates, they swept both Connecticut and Providence last weekend to start BIG EAST play undefeated.
SCOUTING CREIGHTON
Seton Hall and Creighton will lock up on Sunday for the 21st time in history. The Bluejays have utterly dominated the series recently having won the last 16 matches. In fact, Creighton hasn't dropped a single set in the series since 2015, that's 44 consecutive set victories over Seton Hall.
Creighton is coming off a monstrous 2022 campaign, which featured a 27-5 final record and a 17-1 mark in BIG EAST play. They outlasted Marquette in the BIG EAST Championship for their second-straight conference title. In the NCAA Tournament, however, they were upset by Auburn in five sets in the first round.
The Bluejays return four All-BIG EAST selections from a year ago, a group led by 2022 BIG EAST Player of the Year Norah Sis. Sis was named BIG EAST Tournament MVP in both 2021 and 2022 and Preseason BIG EAST Player of the Year in both 2022 and 2023. Also back are all-league picks Ava Martin, Kiana Schmitt and Kendra Wait. Creighton was picked to finish second in the BIG EAST this season according to the conference's preseason coaches poll.
Creighton enters this week ranked No. 16 in the country with a 10-3 record overall and a 1-1 mark in BIG EAST play. Their losses have come to Duke, No. 4 Nebraska, and most recently, at Xavier on Saturday in five sets. Notable victories have come over LSU, No. 16 Purdue and No. 9 Minnesota. In addition to their loss at Xavier last weekend, the Bluejays swept Butler in Indianapolis.

Seton Hall will head on the road again next week when it faces Butler in Indianapolis on Friday, Oct. 6 and Xavier in Cincinnati on Saturday, Oct. 7. Both of those contests will be available to FloSports subscribers.
