Climate change? Really? This is Santa Ana winds blowing over a dry area. Santa Anas have been a big deal in that part of the world for centuries, and will continue to be. How the fires started is what really needs to be investigated. Fires don't just start out of nothing. Probably human stupidity or negligence, as that's what starts most wildfires outside of lightning.
Leadership would help, common sense might also help. Listen to Trump and Joe Rogan interview from couple months ago. Trump called this mess, they emptied their emergency water into the Pacific Ocean now they have no water in the hydrants. Cannot make this up, made cuts to fire fighters and resources add no water and you have a mess. Keep electing idiots and this is what you get. Wind is so bad not sure having water and resources unfortunately would make a difference. Still pays to be proactive and prepared to minimize damages.
No one is disputing climate change but wild fires have been going on forever in that part of the country. It would help to have water available to put them out. Seems like that is fire safety 101 to have water available. Last 2 years in CA. Have been the wettest in years but hydrants are empty. Leadership is necessary.
People are absolutely still disputing climate change, and Donald Trump is one of them! I agree about needing leadership, or at least better leadership, but Donald Trump is not that guy. Worth revisiting his comments from when he was president during the 2020 California wildfires.

I don’t dispute it but not sure anything we do will change the results. Humans are not ready to make the sacrifices that would be necessary. I yelled at a guy who was draining his oil on the street in Montclair couple of months ago. My wife and I witness someone throwing a bag of garbage out there window on Route 23 in Cedar Grove last week. Take a few trips around the world places like DR or India and any hope to save the planet would be gone.
That is true but there was always a catalyst. A catalyst can occur naturally (earthquakes, shifts in land, meteors etc) but that doesn't mean human activity can not be a catalyst for a shift in the climate as well. For the last million years, Atmospheric Co2 was between 180 and 300 ppm. It exceeded 300 around 1950 and is now well above 400. Human activity caused that. t would be incredibly arrogant of us to believe that we could just burn whatever we wanted with no impact on the environment. We are likely beyond a point where we can fix it naturally, and I'm more worried about how drastic those measures will be and if we overcorrect.
On this topic though. I don't know enough about the situation in California to have an opinion on what caused / fueled those fires.
As we speak you could go skating, we haven't seen cold like the last few days for awhile. By next week you could be skating everywhere, problem is I sold the skates last year on ebay. Out of our control, electric cars are not going to save anyone. 80% of the world's population is trying to get enough food to eat, never mind education on climate change. We live in a bubble and even our own bubble is not very good right now. You are right every winter was cold, I remember the river freezing over.
The fallacy of extreme climate alarmism is that you can control the climate hint you can’t as Dr.Robert Casey the Nobel award for science winner as chairman on UN climate change panel over 20 years ago.said it is a bit warmer but nothing we do can to change climate.As many of you know the US has lowered emissions significantly over the last 20 years and it got warmer.Don’t worry will move to another reason like china and India increase theirs,it is not solely emissions it is undefined climate change,you are a climate denier if you disagree,we can omit data if it challenges, every supposed line of best fit makes historical temperatures colder, how about on hockey stick analogy etc.Finally Casey recommend we spent climate change money on medical research and he also noted many experts on TV spreading climate change alarmism never built a weather model compared to the 150+ professional models he developed so all on this board who listen to the world will end in 12 year if we don’t take not defined drastic action spread by experts like AOC take it with a grain of salt.

Not seeing Casey as a chair of the climate change panel - and that statement is not the view of the climate change panel.
We've lowered emissions, but still very high on a per capita basis. And Carbon is not like a faucet where you turn it down and you see the impact right away. The impact of shifts in the amount of carbon in the atmosphere takes decades.
That goes for pretty much anything discussed on TV. The people on TV are not the experts.
They are the ones who relay information from the experts and while I'd agree alarmism is their bread and butter, that doesn't mean they are inherently wrong.

Based on the UN report, yes.
Instead of thinking about longer term sustainable solutions though, we are researching for which chemicals would be best to spray into the upper atmosphere to limit how much of the sun's rays hit the earth, and will probably start going that in another 20-30 years. should go well.
Not sure you could say that. It's an estimate of a time to act by to impact a time between 2050 and 2100.
I'd say their more right than wrong in that there will be a canoe tipping point date where no measures we do to limit our impact would matter and we will be relying on technology to fix it instead. You and I would likely be dead by then so who cares I guess, right?
Merge is right I conflicted two scientists John Clauser won Nobel for physics in 2022 and was formerly a big climate change believer but now feels the climate alarmism is not warranted.Casey never won Nobel prize Clauser met with Biden in 2023 to share his views but Biden told him he agrees with consensus of scientists who believe climate alarmism is justified.My bad on references.
So their “estimate” is that the planet is f’d now by the second half of the century. If it was that dire where is the lack of action across the globe?
The only way to deal with it is either some new unknown radical technology or immediate significant clawback in consumption. Legislating against gas stoves is laughable political window dressing.
