But to be fair to the kids, not all the ones who are paid fall into that category. You have plenty who it seems are getting some substantial by way of NIL and are competing their a$$ off each game, doing things like defending and offensive rebounding which aren’t typically the things that kids love to do or which jump out at pro scouts and the pro leagues.
A lot depends on the individual but also the HC to motivate them, $ aside.
Of course. No size fits all. But it's a major factor with more than just a handful of kids.
Greatness is getting up at 4AM and going for a run, or shooting baskets or lifting weights when others are partying or sleeping. Most individuals are not willing to do that when major bucks are burning holes in their pockets.

Yep this is the fallout . Jury is out on how this will affect the the quality of the NBA game down the road but it ain't gonna be for the better..
I ask would the Villanova knicks be the NBA players they are today if they played for 4 coaches and teams in 4 years?
His comment at the end reminds me of the famous Calhoun line. I think it was Kemba's last year, when he was on his way to winning POY and they had that miraculous run to the title. Earlier that year a reporter asked him about Kemba and the rest of the team, and he said something to the effect of Kemba carries us, and he's never our problem. "My problem is I have 8 other kids who think they are Kemba".
I recall Huggy Bear had a great line to this effect during his West Virginia time. It was when Kevin Jones was an upperclassmen and was absolutely awesome, but was surrounded by a lot of younger/talented kids. At some press conference, he goes "I got all these guys who think they are so good. I asked them the other day - how many games do you think we'd win if we didn't have number X (Jones). How many?"

The players used to ignore classes because basketball was their outlet.
Now players ignore classes and basketball because flashing their money and material goods on social media is more fun than playing the game
Same reason why the NBA is overtaken by Europeans and will be the same reason why the Japanese eventually take over MLB.

You’re absolutely right about that but my biggest concern is whether it’s broken beyond repair and as long as the school’s themselves don’t step up and put reasonable pay limits in it could become worse.
How far are we from a class action suit by college players claiming that even the most minimum academic requirements infringe on their abilities to earn livings for them and "their families."? If they are employees of something or someone and are clearly paid to play basketball, isn't that enough. Return to the really old days when studs leaving high school or even college but couldn't count or spell got cushy jobs "in the mailroom" so they could star on the company's industrial league team? [....Sarcastic, for sure; but sad.]

This is the exact reason why Charlie Baker was a poor choice. The NCAA doesn't need a chameleon politician looking for a paycheck it needs a pitbull. The current model is not sustainable. Even Jay Bilas would have to admit that.
The NCAA (and therefore the schools themselves) ARE putting a limit on it. $20.5 million per year in total.
It's bad when players don't care because how can you expect fans to care and pay? At rock bottom or close to it for college sports
Another question that has flummoxed me: If a kid plays four years at four different schools and stays "eligible" at each stop, can he graduate with a degree in Minimum General Studies, for example, from the last school? What if the last school were Seton Hall?
A long time ago, when Mother Seton was a classmate, I recall a graduate had to take at least half of his/her courses at the last stop in order to graduate. Still....?

By Erich RichterFrom day 1 of this P4P era, I've said that the sport is doomed unless somebody has the balls to say "That's IT, no more". But I can't see it happening. The vast majority of these kids can give a rat's ass about the school, coach, team and fans, it's all about the quick money. It will be very interesting when these kids run out of eligibility and suddenly the gravy train ride is over. Hope they can say "would you like fries with that?"

How long before we see the players file a law suit or go on strike to raise the limits especially since they’ve done so well filing actions in the courts.
But just one-year contracts.
How about requiring a transfer to commit to at least two years? Is that unconstitutional? Wonder what the Founding Fathers would say?
Exactly and majority of these kids don’t want to earn or work hard to achieve anything. Give them money for nothing and watch what happens. NOTHING. Let’s give all of them a trophy as well.
